So here it is folks, the first proper blog from Paraguay. I appologise for how long it's taken me, but that is because my computer is so very British that it decided it couldn't talk to the South American internet system, presumeably because it's in Spanish, and being British, my laptop only speaks English. So I've had to wait for a wireless router to arrive and be installed. I could have used the internet cafes, but they're sooooo slow, and also I've been writing this blog in notepad on my laptop since I arrived and couldn't be bothered to write it all again on another computer. But it's all good now, as the wireless router arrived the other day, and was installed this morning. Hoorah. Before I say anything else I have to say that it ... read more

Hey folks! Ive eventually managed to get a few photos on the computer so i´ll try and include them in this blog... Wow, this week has just passed sooo quickly, last week was MEGA slow but this week has just gone whoosh! It seems like there´s getting less and less news as i get used to living here, but dont worry im sure i can manage my usual essay lol! What i still cant get used to is getting stared at constantly, no matter what you´re doing, what you´re wearing, where you are or who you´re with, it´s so weird!! Don´t think im ever gonna get used to being the freak in town, dont know how u do it fiona!!! :P the funniest thing happened the other day, i was taking the long way home so ... read more

I appologise for my almost complete radio silence. I´ve been having internet problems, as my laptop won´t connect and the internet cafes here are very slow and very unreliable. We´ve ordered a wireless router which should hopefully arrive tomorrow and should hopefully mean that I can then have the internet in my house and then properly update this blog. I´ve been writing a massive blog in notepad on my laptop and can´t be bothered to write it all again on an internet cafe plooter, so hopefully you can wait. So yes, just to say I´m alive, all my luggage arrived with me, it´s very very hot here and sort of in the words of Hellogoodbye, I miss you (all) quite terribly!... read more

Well helloooo there! The whole point in this entry was to put some pictures up but have now been on this computer for an hour and 37 minutes exactly and still no luck!! so im sorry but u´ll just have to wait all those that keep asking lol! will try and steal some of helens tho... Where did i finish? Thursday i think... On Friday, Alegria was closed for teacher training or something so I went to Casa Cuna all day rather than sitting around doing nothing. The three of us at Casa Cuna have been split up into different groups so it´s quite annoying not being able to speak english for so long! Really like my group though, they´re a teeny bit older, im guessing around 3, so thankfully they´re not speaking too much and ... read more

WELL i sooo dunno where to start, too much has happened and i think its gone out the other ear already! Ok, so on Tuesday night, Kathy and Gilly told us they were taking us to a barbeque. Eh, this wasn´t just any old barbeque. We got to this restaurant, had to be the poshest thing ive seen so far in Paraguay, it was posh even by British standards! It was sort of like a buffet, (mum etc - like at the radisson baypoint except much bigger) with lots of salady stuff with fancy names but was basically just potato salad and sweetcorn. The waiters, dressed like penguins, come round all the tables with heaps of different kinds of meat and carve it there and then like at a carvery, weird! Also lots of pasta dishes, ... read more

Hey folks, I know I only wrote yesterday but we have free internet in the hotel that we´re staying in till tomorrow so I´m just making the most of it!! Well today´s been the first chance we´ve got out and about in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay. It´s soooo different from Aberdeen, the whole day I´ve been trying to take it all in to tell everyone about but I know fine il forget half of it!! I´ll start with food, just cos my dad´s convinced im gonna starve!! yesterday night we went to a local restaurant, where i was MEGA brave and actually tried something local, honest dad!! can´t remember what it was called but it was some kind of deep fried steak thing with hammy stuff and tomatoish sauce, not really a steak kinda girl ... read more

Well heylo folks! Never written one of these before or even read one, so this could be a complete pile of rubbish, il just wait and see! I´ll try and update as often as I can, but I know what I´m like!! Righty ho, not really sure where to start, but think I might miss out the very first flight since I can´t really remember much of it, lets just say my top was a tad damp once I got off!! Can´t believe the emotion of the past week, I know I never expected anything like it and I don´t think you can til you experience it. Not going to go into how much I´m going to miss everyone cos they all know themselves. Anyways, arriving in London cheered me up, it was a gorgeous day ... read more

Standing on the main road out of San Ignacio it only took us 5 minutes to flag down a bus to Asunción. A 3 hour journey and it only cost us $25,000 (US$5) each. We decided to have a little splurge and checked into the historic Asunción Palace Hotel. Sadly it had been mucked around with a lot but our room was big with a balcony. The town center looked dead, nobody much around on a Saturday. We arranged to meet a fellow couch surfer and soon found out that people hung out at the weekends in the new mall area of town where there is lots of night life and shopping. Raquel and Claudia were English teachers with perfect American English. We chatted and drank coffee, then walked around the area. It was too early ... read more
