Bogotá, Considering that Bogotá is the capital of Colombia we don’t have a lot of positive stuff to report. After settling down in our hostel we headed into the centre for dinner (the lasagna was no where near as good as yours dear friends taty and gio) and then we headed to the nearest bars, all of which were quite empty and we searched around and spoke to locals to find the best Rumba (party) in town but unfortunately it turned out that the Rumba starts on Thursday night and we were 1 day early...very disappointing. We ended up in a local bar with a live acoustic set and I won’t lie to you, I didn’t understand a single word they were singing about but they fantastic and it was great to sit and listen to ... read more

October 14, 15, 16, 2008 Bogota, Colombia We arrived in Bogota in the afternoon, following the 5 ½ hour flight from Santiago, Chile, and spent a quiet afternoon looking around the city near the hotel. This is a very nice and clean city nestled into the mountains at 2600 meters altitude. Wednesday morning we were picked up by our driver guide for a trip into the country and a visit to Villa Leyva about a 3 hour drive from Bogota. The drive was a great trip with some very good conversation with our guide and a few stops along the way to visit a farmers market, the craft center at Raquira and a look at some smaller towns. This area is a huge producer of “cut flowers” and there are literally thousands of green houses in ... read more

Bogotá Arriving in Bogotá, after a twisty journey through many mountain passes, we followed the advice of Shaun, our previous host, and stayed at the Cranky Croc hostel in La Candelaria, the oldest neighborhood in Bogotá, the Colombian capital. Our next week in Bogotá was to be one filled with awesome sights and many ¨rumbas¨(the colombian word for party) as described below: Walking tour: Our Lonely Planet guide contains a walking tour of downtown Bogotá. We decided to follow this on our first day. We headed south to the Plaza de Bolivar, surrounded by some old and impressive buildings. The plaza was covered by the most pigeons we had ever seen in our life. Apparently their number has been reduced already in an attempt to clean up the statues and buildings. We continued to our first ... read more

Here, in the Valley of the Statues, there are some hundreds of large rough-hewn stone figures of men, animals and gods, dating from roughly 3300 BC. Little is known of the culture which produced them, though traces of small circular bamboo straw-thatched houses have been found. There are about 20 archaeologic sites, with excellent opportunities for hiking. The Park which was declared a World heritage site in 1995, is about 2 and a half Km from San Agustin. The statues in the Park are in situ, though some have been set up on end and fenced in, those in the Bosque (a little wood) have been moved and rearranged, and linked by gravel footpaths. Of particular interest are the carved rocks in and around the stream at the “Fuente de Lavapatas” in the Park, where the ... read more

Trascorremmo la giornata all'insegna di pagaiate, salti, spruzzi ... read more

I forgot to upload these photos. Didn't take that many in Medellin...only spent 4 days there and the real attractions of the town are the nightclubs...don't take my camera there! In Bogota I roamed around a lot during the day and was able to take out my camera every once in a while to take some photos...but just like in any big city, I had to keep my camera out of sight so as not to advertise that I am a tourist with a very valuable electronic in my bag! But I did get some great pics of the art on display in Bogota...both in the museums and on the street. I really enjoyed Bogota...all except for the cold! ... read more

I've just got back from another little trip around Colombia for the past two weeks that took me to a few places that I wanted to see. I took a night bus from Bogota to a city called Manizales that I had previously spent six days in and realy enjoyed. I was having some problems with one of my ears which happens every so often after diving, not a problem though I just take decongestants for a few days and it goes away. So I was on the nightbus from Bogota for eight hours and I was taking these pills but didn't sleep at all because the road is so curvy. Then when I arrived in the morning and found a hostel I started getting really sleepy. I went to bed and it never occured to ... read more

Hi all, This was definately a week of rest and relaxation. After finishing our fist experience of doing laundry here in Bogota in Abuelita’s patio, we were ready to get out of the city down to ‘tierra caliente’ for some hot weather and sun. We arrived early Monday morning to the bus station ready to start our way down to Villeta. A small town about 2 hours away from Bogota where the climate is much warmer. We were the only 2 people on the bus when the trip started, but little did we know that the captain has an assistant who leans out the bus door and screams into the street the destination of where our bus is going. I guess he did that JUST in case he finds a random person that needs a ride. ... read more
