April 11th 2012

So I finally tamed the Amazon river from one of the starting tributaries to the end at the Atlantic Ocean. I hopped on her back like she was a bull at the National Finals Rodeo and I rode her for the full 8 seconds (by BTW, did you know that some of the best bull riders come from Brazil? Who would've thought??). Well since I didn't have to navigate the ship, plan the route, etc maybe it was more like riding a horse along a trail. Come to think of it, maybe it was closer to riding a merry-go-round, but that doesn't sound as exciting now does it? I finished the boat ride a few weeks ago and am now traveling south down the coast of Brazil. I will have more details on the trip down ... read more

Ric: After the shit time we had in Fiji, I thought going to Brazil would be a great opportunity to spend some time with the old man and generally relax by the pool everyday, but boy was I wrong... I should have known that walking through the airport of Rio de Janeiro with a brazilian Samba instrument in my hand, just days before the opening ceremony for carnival, was somewhat going to get me attention. The worst thing about it was the fact that I wasn't Brazilian and therefore would not succomb easily to anyone who asked me to sing them a quick song, mainly out of embarrassment at my guitar skills as well as my italian/english/spanish style fucked up portuguese accent that I soooo practiced to try and sound half native; they probably thought I ... read more

The idea of this blogg is to guide kitesurfers on a trip for kitesurfing in Cumbuco. I plan to describe here a bit about the village itself, some gesthouses (Pousadas as they are called in Brazil), spots, and daily life. I work as a kitesurfing instructor in Stockholm and heard from our custmers, lots about Cumbuco. It is one of the best kitespots in the world. Sun, amazing beaches, warm water, waves, lagoons, and wind, wind, wind! When I started searching for more informations about it I had dificulties to find good "guides" on the internet for Cumbuco. All I could find was some visit-Cumbuco websites with adds for hotels, and some pages from the guesthouses. After reading all of it (in english and portuguese) I still had a very wrong idea about what to expect. ... read more

The journey from Barreirinhas to Parnaiba consisted of three legs, the first of which was worthy of its own blog. The three hour ride in a 4x4 truck to Paulino Neves is along a bumpy, mostly flooded track, beginning through forest and ending by passing over vast sand dunes. It was a very uncomfortable ride, but the beauty of the scenery completely took our minds off it. We ate pineapples with an Israeli couple while we waited for the next truck in Paulino Neves, while sitting on the other driver's porch. From here it was only an hour by truck to Tutoia. We had lunch in a restaurant by the river while a local carrying his passport asked Chris if he'd swap identities. He declined. The last leg was a 2 hour bus ride to Parnaiba, ... read more

Fomos procurar havaianas. Hora de jantar. Fomos a um sitio ... read more

Fomos fazer praia, à famosa Praia do Futuro. A água estava simplesmente fantástica.

Spranger's in the night.
