Something new I learnt about my travel companion, OSM. I didn´t know one can react so strangely when you are afraid of something. Mimi (the family dog), a rather big but skinny mongrel, roams freely in the house, mostly in the evening. While we were having dinner one evening, Mimi happend to come by to ¨greet¨us and the next thing I knew, OSM actually stood up on her chair, jumped onto the window ledge and soon onto the dining table. We were SOOOOOO shocked to see that kind of reaction from her. After that, she went into hiding and never want to come down to the dining room again. And on another occasion, we were about to go gai gai and Mimi was hanging around the lobby. OSM didn´t know where to run and she actually ... read more

Buenos Aires! I made it! I arrived at the hostel, Portal del Sur, at about 7pm - 27 hours after leaving canberra and four flights later. Ofcourse the first person I had to met was a aussie - who I shared my dorm with, along with a South African - who had the pleasure of telling me that their cricket team somehow managed to beat the record one-day total of 434 set by Ponto and the boys. Bastards! So after a couple of beers up on the terrace patio that they have up on the roof here, I was off to dinner with a few more guys and girls from the hostel... and in typical Buenos Aires-style we didn´t actually eat until about midnight. This was followed my many more jugs of beer at some cool ... read more

Christoph and I arrived into Buenos Aires around 6:30pm and had to walk about 10 blocks back to the hostel. Unfortunately we were not greeted by blue skies here either - still gray. But on the walk back to the hostel we saw an advertisement for El hombre de la mancha, or the Don Quixote musical. Unlike our completely indecisive selves, we bought tickets to the show for 9pm, two hours from then. It was great. When we got back to the hostel, we were not greeted by reservations, though we had made them the previous day from the bus station. Eventually he let us have two beds, mine in the girls dorm right in front of the door, Christoph´s in a prime location on the second floor of his room, like my original bed had ... read more

Day 41 - Wednesday 15th March The Facts: Buenos Aires Bike tour Evitas grave Flight to Tucuman The Longer Version: As we left the lush surrounds of our hotel, Ayres de Recoletta, we made our way through the streets of Buenos Aires (BA) to our meeting place at the Plaza. Here we collected our steel steeds and guides and departed on a death defying cycle tour of BA. Starting with a tour of the Falklands war memorial, we headed passed most of the famous landmarks in BA, in just a few short hours. We dodged traffic, dog poo and tango dancers as we saw the sights and learnt the history of BA. At the conclusion we walked back and to the Recoletta cemetery, one of the famous visiting points in BA, and eventually stumbled across ... read more

From petrohue national park in chile i traveled back to puerto baras and then onto bariloche. The bus journey is absolutely amazing passing through stunning scenery in the nahual huapi national park. The highlight of which is mount tronador a volcano something over 3000m which is absolutely beautiful, and has the best skiing in south america, unfortunately i would have to wait a few months if i wanted to do that, however the trekking in the area is supposed to be superb. I arrived in Bariloche on the 3rd of march expecting it to be a party town after the amazing natural environment i had been travelling through. Bariloche itself is set in an amazingly beautiful place on lago nahual huapi surrounded by towering mountains and stunning forests. I couldn't get into the first 3 hostels ... read more

Well we are now in Bar. When we arrived the stewardess said that is was going to be very cold. However, it turned out that she was wrong. It was in fact about 60F. It was a little over cast but Bar. seems to be a very beautiful place regardless of the weather. Ok we have experienced some pouring rain and that is not so nice however, made for an interesting adventure. (More on that later.) We got a cab into town and the place looks a lot like Bend, Oregon from solely the natural environment. But in the actual town part it actually more like Banff, Canada. I booked us into a hostel there that was highly recommended by a person I was taking classes with. We had to meet up with the ride up ... read more

I never thought I'd see the day we'd actually pay to go to school... pay hard-earned money for the privilege of getting up early every day! Then return home quickly so we could diligently do our homework… what a complete pair of geeks! Yes it has happened, and not only that, we signed up for a month of it, and loved every minute of it. The school was in Bariloche, right on the edge of Patagonia and the Lake District in Argentina. It is a very affluent town as it is a ski resort in winter and attracts plenty of people for walking, etc. in the summer. Plus it is the chocolate centre of South America... perfect! There are stacks of shops crammed full of mountains of chocolate of every species you can imagine. You can ... read more

After a morning in Brazil, we headed back to Buenos Aires and to our last night in Argentina. We booked a place at Cafe Tortoni earlier in the week (you MUST book ahead to get into the back room tango show..especially at weekends) and had been looking forward to it all week. A bottle of Malbec in Argentina's oldest restaurant/cafe juxtaposed with some authentic tango seemed like the perfect end to our South American Adventure. And it was. We had a great night and I'd definitely recommend it. After the show we made it back to our hotel. Got about 4 hours sleep and we were off again to EZE to start our 21 hour journey home. I have to confess to not really giving it much thought....It was the end of our trip and I never really considered the proximity of Iguazu to the equator. I don't suppose I needed to though. As soon as the pilot announced local time was 6PM and the temperature was a cool 98 degrees farenheit, it all became very clear!! I was drenched in sweat just watching the guy load our luggage into the van! We hoped to do the moonlight tour on the night of our arrival. Sadly, there just wasn't enough time. By the time we made it to our hotel, it was about 8PM so we decided to do it the following night. We decided to do the Argentinean side of the falls ourselves via a taxi from the hotel and we'd use ... read more
