A month can go so fast, especially when it's the first month you've ever lived outside of your home town and especially when you choose to spend it in Buenos Aires. it takes a while to adjust but, as with everything in life, if you look at the so-called bad things from a certain point of view then you start to realise that they aren't bad, they're just different to what you're used to. All you have to do is remember that it's you that is different from the norm, not that IT is alien to you. So, what did I find to be different. well, Jugglers and not windscreen washers (although they were seen) at traffic lights made a change; Instead of a soapy sponge being slapped on the glass in front of your face ... read more

When we last spoke I was eluding border officials in Brazil. After a brief stint in a Brazillian prison... I made my way back into Argentina. (Last Friday I was in Brazil twice.) I got into Puerto Iguazu too late to catch the bus to Buenos Aires that day, so I spent the night there, again. I was able to cut out around 2 on an eighteen hour journey to Retiro bus station in Buenos Aires. Our bus was stopped by national police five hours into the journey. Apparently someone had sent a kilo of marijuana in the cargo hold of the bus. It took an hour, but they finally let our bus continue on. I got to BA on Sunday morning. I went to different hostels, but none had rooms. I met a Danish girl, ... read more

Here I am in Mendoza...A 4 days break in Argentina after two weeks in Chile and before returning on the pacific coast of South America for continuing my way North : roads and buses are better on the Chilian side and considering the time I will spend in transportation in the next days it is better to try to optimize! Mendoza is like a big city and except the fact it is on the Argentinian side (after 2 and half months in South America, I have not enought yet of their Biffe de Chorizo!) it has not much to say about it, not to say I am a bit desappointed. Yeah, there are things to be done around the city but it is remote, not really cheap and don't know, not really original (or it requires ... read more

After a 5 hour bus ride, a short hop when taken in context of other bus journeys, we arrived into El Calafate, the newest town in Argentina. It's a frontier town at the foot of some spectacular mountains. Not that we could see any of them. Low clouds were blanketing out all but the closest hills and even they were partially obscured. The weather is peculiar in Patagonia. Different areas have their own microclimate so it’s impossible to predict what the weather will be like in any one place. I’d heard from other travelers that the weather had been atrocious here. They’d hiked for days in endless rain, buffeting winds and freezing cold. And after enduring all this they didn’t even see the mountains that brought them there in the first place. On hearing those stories ... read more

Arrived from London via Sao Paolo. Slept all the way so the flight went quick. This city is much bigger and busier than I thought. The taxi from the airport drove through some very poor areas on the way to our apartment...makes Redfern look pretty classy. Our place is in an area called Abasto which used to be known for shady tango bars and cocain use in the 80's but has been cleaned up in the last 10 years starting with the redevelopment of the old Abasto wholesalers market building into another depressing American style shopping mall. At least they kept part of the old exterior of the building which is really cool.... read more

Sorry for taking so long to write. I hope this works. Because of the internet is expensive so I am doing the cut and paste thing. At any rate I am in Barlouge now. ( Bar). More on that later but First BA. Sharon got in on the 10th. I arrived on the 9th very early in the morning, I had almost missed my bus. Because instead of saying BA it said Retiro. The name of the bus station and it was not in the proper gate. But as with most things you sort of have to try to figure things out. Even thought I did pay for a the full cama. It was still only a semi cama not total full. At any after a nice evening of the horror movies and not truly getting ... read more

Another good day. Two in a row now. Full of laughs and a giggle here and there. Edd, the newbie Jenni and I are the only ones in the house. It feels big, spacious, some how fancy here. I don't know how it feels fancy really. Its just that with the three giggling bafoons it feels like this place isn't ours. We are playing house. I suppose the feeling of playing house makes it feel "fancy". It's true though...grown up things are fancy. Practice Teaching #2 ...was today and I did an awesome job. The lesson was building "Where is / are" and "what is doing" into a dialog. My main activity was giving one person a piece of paper with a name of a city. They were suppose to be in that city. Another person ... read more

As I stared out the window there appeared an aqua-marine lake in the barren, hostile looking plains. This signified our approach to El Calafate airport. The drop in temperature was significant. No more walking around in a t-shirt and shorts, we were now in Patagonia. The landscape looked as wild and amazing as in the numerous photos I´d seen. I was so excited to be here. The pilot mentioned something about how we had arrived at a very special time which had something to do with the Perito Moreno Glacier. We just thought it was the usual tourist speil but found out later that the ice bridge connecting Perito Moreno Galcier to the penninsula was about to collapse. Apparently it is a major event that happens only infrequently. To understand how major an event this is ... read more

Ola from Buenos Aires! Before we head down to Patagonia on Wednesday we wanted to give you an update on The Iguassu Falls and Buenos Aires itself.... The Falls were absolutely amazing. We would have to say that it is by far the best thing we have seen so far, perhaps ever.....it left us speechless. See for yourself on the pics although they barely do it justice. As for Buenos Aires, we arrived on Saturday and Anna treated us both to a night at one of the most luxurious hotels BA has to offer (see www.faenahotelanduniverse.com). Complete pampering by the infinity pool in the afternoon followed by dinner and tango show in the evening. The big comfy bed and power shower were more than a welcome relief to our tired bodies. We have since downgraded 4 ... read more
