We made out way up to Iguazu via our overnight bus trip and a few days stop of in Posades, a northern town. In Posades we made a failed day trip to Paraguay - turned out I needed a visa, so we turned around and came back, but we also made a successful trip to the Missiones region so called because of the Missionaries that converted the locals abolut 400 years back. When they arrived they organised the locals into a new society, building them a stone town built around a huge church, and teaching them about God, of course but also some more useful skills like farming and agriculture. The Falls themselves, another 5 ish hours up the road were spectacular - but pictures speak loader than words - so enjoy...... read more

Well, I seem to be getting more and more comfortable in the city. Each day is a little bit easier. I had my first bus ride yesterday, solo. And it was quite an experience. I live near one of the local Futbol stadiums, and there was a game, so by the time that I got home at about 7:30 the streets were packed. I watched the game on TV since I didn't have a ticket, and I don't think that I was allowed to go anyway, since the game was between the Newells (a local team), and the Goias (a Brasilian team). My family is for the Centrals, which is the other local team, not the Newells. Every time that the Newells were carded my father cheered! It was amazing to hear the screams from the ... read more

Day 11 - After three good days in Puerto Madryn we head further south to El Calafate - an even smaller town which is close to Ushuia (the southern most town on earth and step off point to Antartica). The bus journey takes 24 hours but isn´t too bad apart from one girl that smelt of sick and one boy that smelt of wee. A suprisingly delicious aroma, I hasten to add. The landscape changes dramatically as we near our destination. The vast expanse of blank terrain is replaced by sweeping hills and lakes, all surrounded by snow capped moutains in the distance. When we arrive in the town we check into an amazing hostel which is built on a hill, giving it panoramic views of not only the town itself but the turquoise lake lying ... read more

Today we headed down to Purto Madero which is a bit like Daling Harbour really. It used to be a working harbour until it became to small and was deserted for a new and improved one. In the 80's the area was redeveloped and is now a bit of a yuppy area with offices, resturants, bars and apartments. This is where the Hilton and the new Phillipe Starck hotel is located. And there is even a night club modeled on the Sydney Opera House! Classy! After walking around for a few hours we decided to have lunch at a steak house and try the famous Argentinian beef. This is where i learned that when you order beef you get beef...and nothing else. I went for a 500g scotch fillet and when it arrived it was just ... read more

Buenos Aires, and for the last time. I am so sad to leave. The bus ride back gave me some time to plan the next leg of my trip, or realize that I in fact haven´t, which is scary, since I leave for Africa on Wednesday. I had a good 5 or 6 hours with no one next to me, which was a huge treat. Eventually a girl got on but we never spoke. Also a huge treat as I was wanting some alone time. That is a problem on this trip - I am never alone or have any privacy. Gets old. I did get to read a great deal, which was great. The funniest part was dinner, which among other things consisted on tortellinis. Not exactly raviolis... I arrived in Buenos Aires at 7am ... read more

Hey everyone, just so you know this is the address for my apartment where I'll be at least until August. 1548 Medrano, Piso 2, Dept. 3 e/c Costa Rica y Soler Capital Federal 1179 Buenos Aires, Argentina So I have a few days off for Easter, and I'm trying to figure out where I'd like to travel. It will be my first pure vacation time since I got here. I'm thinking Iguazu Falls since it would be something I could easily do in a few days, but it will also still be very hot there. I'm trying to prioritize my trips since I don't have a whole lot of vacation time. I'd really like to get to Iguazu Falls, Patagonia, and somewhere in the Andes. Maybe to Santiago, Chile too or Brazil if I have the ... read more

A lot has happened since I last wrote, which seems like a long time ago now... ...After the shock appearance of 2 people supposedly working the weekend of the rodeo, I returned to the ranch expecting Chantal to be singing the praises of Gabriella, the only one who stayed. Instead, I entered our room to find a packed bag. A couple of minutes of mild shock followed as I worked out they were Gabriella's bags. She only had another few weeks to go to complete the full 3 months, and have her deposit returned, had not mentionned any hint of leaving, even when everyone else had... Monday morning arrives, but Addy doesn't. Two down in as many days. Not good. By the end of the week Ricardo, the Brazillian horse trainer who is now going out ... read more

I arrived Sunday morning after a surprisingly easy 20-hour bus ride. I was also more prepared this time, more so than I was when we went to Iguazu Falls. I put in my earplugs, blew up my travel pillow and was out like a light for a good eight hours until some ass opened the curtains at about 7am so I had sharp rays of daylight that woke me up. But when I arrived at the bus station, I asked for a map and decided against taking a taxi so that I could find my own way into town. I took a bus that led to the middle of town and walked the rest of the way, which wasn't that far. I arrived to my homestay around 11am and my 'mom for two weeks', Silvia, greeted ... read more

Hey Sorry It has been a filled week and not much time for the computer but that is what a vacation is about. Right!!! But I do want to have a record of it all. At any rate, from the last one, We picked up our laundry and Hiked back up to the hostel on the hill, ok it is a mountain. It was difficult with full bags. Several nights before, two american guys joined the hostel group. They were really interesting because of the way they behaved around each other. You would think that they were long time friends and traveling together, however they had just met there on the truck going up the mountain. One was from California and the other one eventhought he said he was from Colorado he was really a New ... read more
