So I spent the past few hours trying to find gloves, a hat and socks. The big mall is open. I always thought socks was calcetines. So I had a hard time trying to find them. But the lady I bought my stuff from was sooo nice and was appreciative of my broken Spanish. I went to the huge mall. There is a sale, so it´s a little crazy. The electricity went off, and everyone let out a quiet sigh at the same time. It was kinda funny actually. The clothes here are cheap. But not that much cheaper than anywhere [View Full Entry]

8/7/08 Today I decided to go shopping in the streets of Avenida Santa Fe and Corrientes. I got me some nice clothes and after class we decided to go and play some indoor soccer with people from our uni. I must admit the place was awesome it was literally under a bridge and very street football like. After that I meant this Chinese guy who spoke pretty fluent Spanish and told me why he was here (in Buenos Aires) trying to make ends meet, and basically was kind enough to teach and give me some advice about the local customs and [View Full Entry]

How does a group of students from the USA properly celebrate the 4th of July in Buenos Aires? They go to a "country" bar and listen to the Argentine band "The South" play well known country and bluegrass songs, of course! I'm not sure Garth Brooks would have recognized his own work, but the Argentines at the bar (decked out in tight jeans, boots, huge belt buckles, and cowboy hats) sure knew the words. Talk about a surreal evening.....as the night wore on (and the night doesn't even begin til midnight here), the bar got crazier and crazier. After a while, [View Full Entry]

Hola! I have done lots of exciting things since i last posted an entry, so here goes day by day: Thursday- At night a group of my classmates and I went and took Tango lessons! It was very fun, but very hard, the lessons were very crowded and only an hour so we only got to learn the basic step. I liked it tho and i think we are going to back and try again soon. Friday (4th of July)- after I talked with everyone at Momo's I went with a group of friends to see a live Argentinean band perform [View Full Entry]

Quite scary how intensely she stared into my eyes !
Buenos Airies June 08 First of all, massive thanks to Bro and Hollers for coming over to visit us. I had a superb 30th birthday , cheers. The two weeks with the above two didn't start as smoothly as we would have liked ! We had arranged a flightfrom Rio to Buenos Airies the night before Bro and Hollers'arrival, we landed around midnight, got into a hotel near the airport knowing that we wouldn't be getting much sleep. In bed around 2am , we were then back in the arrivals at 7.45am. We prepared our 'welcome signs'and then the long wait [View Full Entry]

Today I got up and decided before my class would begin that I wanted to take a walk along the different parks and Museums in Barrio Norte, which is just an area near where I live. It was kinda exciting doing all the walking on my own and having such freedom especially when I was at the Floralis Generica (this giant flower dish) where looking at all the tourist with their guides and really being stuffed with info after info, I just felt in a way that I was glad I’m discovering all this on my own and that I have [View Full Entry]

Okay, Okay. I´m getting emails about having to update my blog. Since, there is clearly nothing. Just a few things... 1. I have no idea how to upload photos onto this computer! Since I didn´t bring my own (people are traveling with their computers though), I´m not sure if you´re going to see pictures until after my trip is over... I´ve been taking lots of pictures during the day, but during the nighttime, it´s another thing. I swear, I´m out having fun at night, even if it´s not documented as of yet! 2. I think I´m getting sick. It´s all that [View Full Entry]

I did my best to escape Buenos Aires without doing anything tango-related, but Becky is quite persistent when it comes to such things. There was no way she was getting me to take a dance class, and neither one of us wanted to do a touristy dinner/show, so we observed tango the authentic way: we went to a milonga. Thanks to Becky's coworker, we had an inside connection to a neighborhood milonga, and made reservations for 11:30. After a pretty amazing nap from 8:30-9:30, we were well rested and prepared for a long night. We were right on time to the [View Full Entry]

Afgelopen [View Full Entry]

Obelisk

5/7/2008 Waking up today for some reason I just felt very powerful. So after all the girls had a hard night out and were still resting and sleeping in. I decided to take a walk and hopefully make my way towards Puerto Madero, where all the lovely ports are(as Buenos Aires locals are famous for being labeled as Los Porteños). However, as I started walking and getting into things and started taking pictures…I kid you not ..something hysterical happened, as I was trying to line up a shot for one of the building pics, a bird had not only SHITTED on [View Full Entry]
