Buenos Aires Travel Blogs

Background: Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation.

Finally arrived in Buenos Aires after spending a whole 16 hours on the plane! First impressions from myself was just how green the whole place is! They have grass greener than us! Lisa says its a bit chilly and a coat is the required attire due to the rain. Its their spring season now or the start of it, and everyone is walking around with scarfs and hats. Us however if we weren´t so fashion concious could get away with shorts and a t shirt! Went on a marathan walk yesterday and must have walked the whole north east of the [View Full Entry]

We woke up to perfect weather. THe sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky. Several people had mentioned an antique market on Florida Ave. that only happens on Sundays so we decided to check it out. It was fabulous! Great artisans, lots of street performers playing music, dancing salsa or whatever. Too bad the suitcase doesn´t have extra room for too much shopping. Andrea´s clothes are really taking up a lot of space! We walked most of the length of Ave. Florida and ended up in Plaza de Mayo. Beautiful square in one of the oldest parts of [View Full Entry]

Have to be at the airport early tomorrow as we fly out at 7am so not looking forward to that. [View Full Entry]

Señor Snapper has finally made it to Argentina! There was a very LONG flight but luckily only one hour time change. The view of the Andes from the plane was spectacular. Señor Snapper is looking forward to when he can climb one of them! Exhausted but happy, we arrived in Buenos Aires and headed straight for the hostel for a siesta. In true Argentinian fashion we headed out for dinner sometime after 8 p.m. and started with tapas and drinks. We didn´t start dinner until after 10. We went to a restaurant called Milion - food was delicious and the rest [View Full Entry]

It has been a while since I last updated my blog...for those of you who have been anxiously waiting my new stories, sorry for the wait. Much has happened...I have completed a tour of Cordoba, San Juan and Salta, and now have finally rolled back to Buenos Aires. Much has happened during my expedition into the central and north region of Argentina. Somehow I did not feel a strong urge to update my blogs...maybe because I feel so at home, or relaxed here in Argentina, or maybe it was simply that I felt I could less afford to waste time. I [View Full Entry]
