Well I can't believe my year in NZ is almost over :0( I've still got a few weeks left to visit some of the places I've not seen..so there'll be a couple more NZ blogs to come.... but my time in Welly is over :0( Anyway before that here's what I've been up to since new year! After the adventures of Xmas and New Year I had a few great weekends relaxing back in Welly. First up there was the Beach Volleyball Pro tour that came to town.... so I can hear you saying yes yes, not a real sport, just an excuse to look at people jumping around in their bathers etc etc etc. But it was great fun to watch and looked like really hard work... at least from where I was sat in ... read more

Adding the update on the 30/03/06, but this is from the beginning of march. So yes another long update, after another few very eventfull weeks. This time I did so many things, and so important as well that I need to split the mail into parts, for your reading pleasures. I finished the last update when going to queenstown, the main tourist city in New Zealand and one that actually has a bit of nightlife. Right on the arrival to queenstown, Daniel was all excited all he could talk about is jumping the NEVIS the 134 meter bungi in queenstown, one of the highest bungi jumps in the world. To tell you the truth I was really scared, but I decided I got to get over my fear and if so I should do it with ... read more

Arriving in New Zealand, North Island, Auckland we surely had a good plan. Three weeks is not much for two big islands. Thus, we had a little car, we had brought our tent from the working time near Melbourne, and first thing we did was to drive to "Foodtown" and "Warehouse" to stock up with eatables and buy a small stove. Our first experience with the locals (Kiwis, as they are called in NZ in contrast to Ozzies in Australia) was really good. In "Foodtown" a woman from Auckland gave us her shopping discount card when we asked her about the two different prices stated for most products. She said we could post it back to her before we leave NZ and she could share the card of her husband. So we enjoyed cheep shopping! Now ... read more

After our extended stay in Raglan we set off for Rotorua via Waitomo Caves.... ...now here's the thing... I decided it was time to face my fear and head deep under ground! Kitted out in our rather attractive wetsuits and white gum boots (wellies to you and me) we treked across the fields a bit like the Thunderbirds towards the caves. All was going well...wading and crawling through water, a wee tea break to warm up and look at the glow worms, fondly known as "cannabilistic maggots with shiny shit" and then floating along on rubber rings enjoying a rendition of "Yellow Submarine", a wee bit of Opera and by far the best an in tune version of "Stand By Me" (beautifully sang Boys!). Lying back we were looking up at the glowing ceiling ...and that's ... read more

Just a quick update. I am now officially settled in Christchurch. I have two jobs, one during the day and one at night (Retour). I am working at this place called Barcelona during the day. It is from 10-6 Monday - Friday. It is bistro and bar. All of the meals are gourmet and I don't know what half of it is, but I will be much more enlightened on foods from around the world by the time I finish working. I have moved into a flat. It is about a 10 minute walk from the center city. So it is perfect because it is walking distance of my two jobs and town. Housing is a lot different than at home, but it is a nice house with nice people living in it. And it is ... read more

Plans eh? Made to be broken and I arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand with my arrangements in tatters. The additional unscheduled trip to Alice Springs meant that I had no time to activate my Working Holiday Visa and settle for a while in Wellington with the lads. If my committment to meet Enda in Asia was to be honoured, I had a little over a month to explore New Zealand and this was one country that I just wasn't prepared to rush. The planned rendezvous with my talismanic travel-buddy Kenny Mc was bizarrely scuppered by his inspired challenge to traverse the South Island by bicycle so I faced yet another leg of my trip as a 'single traveller'. However, by now, I was well-accustomed to this form of travelling and if my previous experiences were anything ... read more
