Lake Tekapo 14th - 17th February 2009 Lake Tekapo is a stunning turquoise jewel. The water is the most incredible colour, but ICE cold. We spent our time visiting the very gorgeous Church of the Good Shepherd which is on the shore of the lake, walking up Mount John for some cracking views of the lake, playing crazy golf (I won! - Emily had the only hole in one!), and I waterskiied on the lake. We also swam (briefly!) in the lake and to warm up we went to the hotpools. A fantastic place to visit.... read more

I slept in the tent again last night and i was warm! I have found a new trick, i use my towel as a blanket under my sleeping bag! We could hear all the rabbits running around too! Today’s weather was meant to be showers but it was another nice day. We left at 9.30 am to do a walk through the woods up to the Observatory then down the hill along the Lake. The views of the Lake were really nice, a lovely deep blue colour. They say when the sun shines on it it goes turquoise but the other lake was more impressive! The walk was about 2 hours long so we drove to Christchurch earlier than we had thought. The good thing was we could pop back into the Mitre 10 to sort ... read more

After leaving sunny Queenstown we soon found ourselves in rainy Dunedin, home of New Zealand's Cadburys World and the worlds steepest street....woooooooo I hear you say! We were equally as excited! As we chugged along on the bus, admiring yet more mountains and picturesque views, the bus driver began to list the many activities to do in Dunedin (well all of two). No sooner had the word 'chocolate' been mentioned, had I signed both Ian and I up for the Cadburys World tour! I reminisced about my trip to Birmingham's very own Cadburys World back in the day and remembered all the free chocolate I had been given...I hoped this trip would be equally as good and instead of dinner in the evening we would be able to survive the day on free samples of chocolate! ... read more

Kia Ora! Habe noch schoene 3 Tage in Auckland verbracht ... read more

We determined on our first night in Kaikoura that we aren't the best no luxury campers in the world. It's not really a new discovery as I recall us fighting for 2 mattresses each instead of 1 during our camping trip in Africa. But for some reason we were suprised. Firstly that New Zealand can be so hot during the day and so freezing at night! And secondly that the ground is really the most uncomfortable surface you can sleep on. I mean our primitive ancestors even used padding (soft leaves etc) before plonking themselves down on the ground for a good nights sleep. So our first night in the tent saw us freezing nearly to death over lumps and bumps before getting in the car at 5am for a couple of hours of good sleep ... read more

On a monté environ 300 mètres.

Hello After the Banks Peninsula we headed towards the mainland again in search of somewhere to park-up for the night. We came across a beautiful little nature reserve with small campsite attached and thought it rude not to stay - after all, they had everything we needed, toilet, shower, water, stunning views and of course a trampoline ad tabogon run! After such a soggy morning we were surprised when it turned into a beautiful warm sunny evening and made the most of the "facilities"! Our next major drive took us through tonnes of stunning scenery and South towards Lake Tekapo. The weather had closed in again as you can see from the skies behind the church and so we decided to scrap the idea of a walk and pamper ourselves instead. The springwater here is pumped ... read more

The campervan is huge but has everything we need. It has a shower, tiolet, bed, sink...we didnt get the linen with the van...so the first 2 nights we slept with towels covering us and a few layers and FROZE!!! We eventually found a shop that sold sleeping bags and now there is no problems! After picking up the car, filling it with fuel and food, we drove to Lake Tekapo which is a bit inland. The drive was beautiful and the roads were lined with colorful flowers and eventually we saw our first snow-capped mountains ahead of us!! We of course stopped and took a few pictures. We got the the lake and found a free camping site which was right next to the lake and across the lake you could see Mount Cook. This is ... read more
