anybody out there? aktualitaet haette seinen preis. naemlich die verwerfung meines plans. und das geht gar nicht. wenn ich koche, dann koche ich. basta. also nun, es scheint ein eintrag mit drehbuch zu werden. aus abgedrehten aktuellen gruenden, wie mir scheint. also passt gut auf. ich erwachte eines zweiten abends an einem wilden see, mitten in den bergen eines fernen landes, und der anblick traf mich wie ein blitz! doch der war gluecklicherweise zu dem zeitpunkt noch nicht noetig. der taegliche kampf mit der digicam... auf der suche nach dem geeignteten platz fuer die saubere abendtoilette stolperte ich ueber diese grosse wurzel. kinder hatten sie leider etwas umfunktioniert. urspruenglich hatte sie fluechtigen das leben gerettet. orcs sind wohl nicht ganz so helle... sweet! in der ferne erklang ein lautes brummen, ein mir bis dato unbekanntes geraeusch! ... read more

QUEENSTOWN & GLENORCHY THE REES & DART RIVER VALLEYS The following day we had planned to visit Queenstown for the day. Queenstown itself is not our sort of town, far too touristy, but the surrounding areas have an amazing array of outdoor activities and great scenery. One of the reasons for this trip was that my sister Bronwen and her husband Sakaye and our friends Donna and Dick from British Columbia had given us some money to spend on something special during our holiday. The plan was to take the TSS Earnslaw steamship evening dinner cruise on Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown to Walter Peak Station (sheep and cattle not trains) for an enjoyable evening out. We called into the quaint old gold mining town of Arrowtown on the way and visited our favourite bakery, the ... read more

Oh puree! C'etait GENIAL! Date visited: 18th-20th February Due to the good weather holding up we decided to see Glenorchy for more great walks - a side trip from Queenstown (middle South Island again). Yep its been a bit of a zig-zag - up down affair of late - We have not been finding the work (farmwise, fruitpicking or hostel - related) just when or where we need it so you keep touring and keep on driving! Glenorchy is a classic mountain lakeside township. Its most idyllic and a pleasant peaceful contrast to bustling Queenstown. Our campsite (of which we experienced 'the cabin' accommodation) was one of the most scenic and least busy we had stayed in. We decided to opt for the cabin after our shivering nights in Arrowtown where even our 5 layers of clothes and supposedly good ... read more

Hey Guys, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and Father Christmas brought you everything you wanted. We also had a great Christmas even if it was a bit different to the one im used to back in the UK. On Christmas Eve we met up with Sam, Chloe and Trevor, whom we had first met at the Nabua Lodge in Fiji. It was great meeting up with the guys, sharing stories and exploits of since we last met. We ate at Ferg-Burger possibly the best burgers i have ever tasted and a must if your ever out in this part of the world. As we sat by the waterfront enjoying our burger and fries (wearing the obligatory santa hats) we were approached by a Korean tourist who was bemused by our festive hats and wanted ... read more

After swimming with the dolphins in Kaikoura we decided it was time to move on again and made our way further down the eastern coast. We bypassed Christchurch, where we arrived in New Zealand less than a month ago, and headed for Mount Cook. Mount Cook village sits at the base of Mount Cook in the heart of the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. A popular place for skiing in the winter and walking/tramping in the summer, accomodation in Mount Cook village is hard to come by. We managed to get rooms at the YHA hostel and arrived in the early evening amidst heavy clouds. The next morning the clouds had blown away and the views were amazing. The village was surrounded on all sides by snowcapped peaks that put the Snowdonia region to shame. We took ... read more

I must apologize for the silence. It's been months since I've updated my travel blog due to the fact that I've stopped traveling and have found myself settled here in Glenorchy. Now I have a fun job, car (Suzie the Suzuki), house with garden and chickens (think all the fresh eggs you could possibly want!), and a wonderful boyfriend. Basically I 'm livin' the good life here in NZ! And the coolest thing happened last month. I felt my first earthquake!!!! It was registered as 6.7 and the house was a rockin' and rollin'! The first big one was awesome and it wasn't until the aftershock a few minutes later that I became a little nervous. But overall it was a fun night!! So that's the latest from this side of the earth. There's not much ... read more

As some of you might already know, after exactly 6 months of traveling I have found myself settled in wee Glenorchy, New Zealand. It is a little bit of paradise (although the actual village Paradise is another 25kms up the road) and I am very pleased to be able to call Glenorchy home for this next chapter of my travels. I am working for a horse trekking company called Dart Stables (www.dartstables.com), guiding trails and caring fo some lovely gentlemen (the horses!). I have fallen for a shaggy part-clydesdale named Bryan who reminds me a bit of Bud (probably the large belly and gentle eyes) and it is quite fun to spoil him. My fellow workers are also quite fun and the team of us cowgirls (do they use the term cowgirls for English riders?) with ... read more

3 days in Queenstown It’s Monday now and I arrived here on Saturday after a wonderful drive again from Mount Cook. Gorgeous weather again, but I couldn’t get a flight from Glenntanner - because I would have had to wait a couple of hours and then they wait until they have 4 passengers - so I could have been there all day- and had to get going. The roads are very good - not too busy at all, and although there are a few roads up to tops of passes where there are a few km of winding steep bits - I have driven on worse roads in Mallorca and France - but many of the road are through wide mountain passes and are nice and straight and wide. Lots of picnic places and passing places ... read more
