Everything needs a conclusion right? I mean how many politicians actually read the whole report? But the whole experience and my thoughts on it are difficult due to complexities to summarise succinctly. My conclusion one liners: African aid has been going on for over two decades. Africa is a dump (In my opinion). Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. - Albert Einstein Aid money from countries, is usually your tax dollars. Don't stick your nose, where it doesn't belong. You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Let Africa fix Africa. We actually have problems of our own, and if we are not careful we could end up... like them. But aid ... read more

Back in New Zealand - who would have believed it after only 9 month since I was last here! I felt like I'd never left. It was so good to see Debbie Steve & Sam again, I really felt like I'd come home! Well our arrival was slightly marred due to the fact that we were stranded at Singapore Airport due to be unable to land because of an electrical storm which was awesome. We were flying with Malaysian Airlines, which I have so say were pretty good. I sat with my face pressed against the window mesmerized by what I was watching. I just couldn't stop looking at the storm I found it so exciting, Sharon was petrified and wouldn't look out the window! During the storm I saw that the clouds was massive and ... read more

So, blog #32, 10 months and a hair's breadth in New Zealand, and i leave this evening for asia. Pretty exciting, no? But before i get to that... Richard, Sean and I left Levin and drove to Napier where we experienced the best weather any of us had seen in quite some time; we pottered and the guys looked around the town. The we drove on to Taupo and Richard and I ended up spending the night at the Tauhara meditation centre (a place i've wwoofed at before). It was really cool to say goodbye to everyone (again) and i spent a good few hours playing blues, in the middle of the night, in the rain with a girl from Minnosota with the most beautiful voice. After that we again pottered and enjoyed the weather, read ... read more

Kahikatea Eco-art Village To tell you all the honest truth there's not an awful lot to report this fortnight. I stayed at the Kahikatea eco-art village place an extra week after we last spoke and ran the kitchen for the festival they put on. We did foor for 300 people or so. I spent 3 days buying and making the food and by the saturday morning we had this beautiful, sleek food making machine ready to go and serve all the people who flooded through, we even had a couple contingency plans for when we sold out. Alas and alack, no one came; well not no one, but no where near enough people to make it worth our time and money (not my money, others' money, but a lot of my time as i was head ... read more

I just received the distressing news that Cafe Iguana (work-place before i left the UK, and home of many many many happy memories and friends) has closed its doors for the final time. Not at all happy about this, and i'm even more unhappy that i wasn't able to be there for the final bow. So there's no more Zed's basement, no more fez and no more iguana. Rubbish. Onto a happier note. The party that i was doing fire performing at and cooking for last saturday went off without a hook. It was a really good day and night, and i managed to perform all my stuff without alighting myself. I was working with 4 other wwoofers and essentially put in charge of them as my cooks, it was cool, a fun day was had ... read more

Well in one week's time we'll be off to the airport - although if I have my way, being my father's daughter, I'll be at the airport already (for our flight in four hours' time)! Not much to report except another station win in the Radio Awards and a good night had by all - except for me the seedy hungover feeling on Sunday turned into a long, drawn out case of the...well let's just say the bathroom and I are good friends! Never thought I'd have to be taking drugs my GP prescribed me for 'just in case' before I even left the country! The last couple of days we've been seriously relaxing, sleeping in, lying around watching TV all day and babysitting Molly the Toy Poodle in her Albany castle. So today we're off ... read more

Simon's a diver and general ocean lover who pretends to work as a product development engineer for the medical device manufacturer Fisher & Paykel Healthcare during the week (not for long!!). He currently lives in New Zealand where there are more than 50 sheep for every person and words like capsicum, togs and jandals are used frequently. Simon intends to travel to the big 'ol USA where he wants to do a PhD in Marine Science as he'd like to do something challenging, passionate and fulfilling with his life that involves the sea, whilst diving on the weekends. Simon's a part of the Auckland University Underwater Club and has been so for the last 5 years. It was on club trips with this gang where he met a very interesting girl named Lauren Franck while she ... read more

Week 2: Auckland, NZ We arrived in Auckland and made it through the most friendly customs ever - they opened our Christmas presents but didn't tell us what they were, we didn't even peek! We found some maps and caught a shuttle to Evelyn and John's place in Albany (North Shore of Auckland). Their home, aptly called the Treehouse, is beautiful and surrounded by trees with a path leading down to a stream. It was hardly what we had pictured when arriving in New Zealand's largest city. They welcomed us with open arms and spoiled us rotten with great meals, laundry and internet. We rented a car and began looking for a vehicle of our own at auctions. After a few days looking we found two we wanted to bid on, both vans that we could ... read more
