Dear all, Here I am in Fiji! Yes I am in paradise and so you would think that I would be feeling blissfully relaxed..but sadly it was not to be! We flew in two weeks ago and after spending two nights in Nadi we went down to the Coral Coast. We stayed in a room in the village of Korotogo. For the first three days we hired a car as there was some diving that we wanted to do which was a couple of hours away. So we drove to Pacific Harbour and did a days diving on Shark Reef in Beqa Lagoon. We dropped down to 30 metres and sat on the bottom and then the divemasters let out a mixture of fish guts which attracted a lot of fish! There were huge trevally’s but ... read more

13th APRIL 2009 - UPRISING NOT SO UPRISING!!! We arrived at Uprising Resort at around mid-day. We were given our beds in the tree house dorm. So cool...a dorm up in a tree...it's like I am 5 years old again! We then went off to explore. It was a nice enough place but as it was the bank holiday weekend there were loads of families there and kids running around. I love kids but I wasn't so keen on them running around like lunatics and taking over the pool! And yes...I was jealous as I wanted to act like a lunatic too!! It was probably my least favourite resort apart from the fact that the internet was free for 20 minutes. Woo!! I jumped on that bandwagon straight away whilst Nat topped up her tan and ... read more

12th APRIL 2009 - RELAXATION AT BEACHHOUSE & ON TO MANGO BAY!! I woke up at 8ish after having a cracking nights sleep…much needed I might add and the circles under my eyes were a little lighter than before! We went for breakfast (in with the price) and then checked in and out. We then explored the resort a little and laid by the pool. Such a nice place and I would have happily stayed there for the rest of my time in Fiji. It was right on the beach, there were log swings out over the sea, the sun was out and it was a happy place! There were loads of activities on and even a tv room for rainy days! It was a shame that we only had a couple of hours there which ... read more

12/4/09 = From Beach House to Mango Bay = Easter Sunday Woke up lots of times in night itching. Not mosquitoes, not sandflies...but ants. I hate you ants of Robinson Crusoe! That was also way woke up at 7:30, itching. Got changed and went straight for breakfast. Found kitchen easy enough - couldn’t see anything when arrived in dark last night - and glad to see breakfast had already started, with plenty of options. Made cup of tea, started on cereal, then Deb came down too. Followed up ceral with toast and juice - got to make the most of these free breakfasts - and when totally full, went to reception to both check in and out. Moving on to Mango Bay resort today. Orangised pick up for Mango at midday so at least had a ... read more

Feejee Experience (Viti Levu and Beachcomber) Nadi We stayed in a budget hotel in Nadi which was really nice. It had 2 restaurants, 2 pools and even a salon. However the toilets weren’t up to much as there were biting bugs everywhere (including the toilet seat) so we had to use the ones next to the pool. Our first night we went to one of the restaurants that was quite posh but was not very expensive. There was live music playing and you get a flower in your hair. This is worn on the right if you are taken and the left if you are single. After food and drink we went to the theatre room to wind down. The next day we went into town. This was a little bit scary as people follow you ... read more

So I woke up in the middle of the night to my eye burring terribly. I had slept on the plane with my contacts in and fallen asleep the night before with them in. My eye continued to puss through out the night and was red in the morning. i then started to fear pink eye. But we were headed out to surf so i had to put the contacts back in and sucked it up. The boat left to go to the reefs to surf at 7:30 which is late in the surfing dawn patrol life but whatever. So we head out to the first spot willks pass. And the wind isnt right and looks really tiny so we went onward to desperations. Which didnt look much better but seeing as we all were desperate ... read more

We started our Fiji adventure at a hotel called Aquarius, smack bang on the beach at Nadi Bay, a stone's throw away from Nadi Town and the airport. The hotel itself, nothing to write home about, and the beach even less so (dirty, grey sand littered with rubbish and the odd stray dog wanting to be your best friend). Knowing that we only had to endure this for a couple of nights before our real Fiji adventure began (hopping between the idyllic Mamanuca and Yasawa islands) we made the best of it and relaxed in one of the many dual berth hammocks strung up between unsuspecting palm trees, dotted about the place. We even ventured into Downtown Nadi which was much less dirty, frenetic and intimidating than most people made out- it was a breath of ... read more

Ok, one more entry about Fiji- So yesterday I decided to rent a car and explore a little of Viti Levu, the island that Nadi's on, before jetting out today. Drove up to the city of Lautoka, about half an hour north of Nadi, which was a nice drive but the city is really not much to write home about. Although it was fun driving on the wrong side of the road, sitting on the wrong side of the car with the controls flipped around as well, so I kept turning on the windshield wipers whenever I wanted to make a turn. Quite comical when driving through bustling downtown areas. And since I was up at the crack of dawn today, per the usual, as I am curious to see how long I can stay on ... read more

Bula! We've just spent 4 days and nights in Fiji. We had thought about going to Fiji on and off for a while, but it was just weighing up the cost etc, but luckily the cost of flights had gone down and down in various sales, so we thought it had to be done, as we are over this side of the world and we never may be this way again. After much researching on the net, we booked a place called the Hideaway Resort, as it had really good reviews, but had pretty respectable prices. We thought this will be our 4 days of luxury after months of cheap and basic accomodation, and before we head south and go back to caravan's, hostels and campsites! When we arrived, late Thursday afternoon, it was 32c. Heaven! ... read more
