Feejee Experience (Viti Levu and Beachcomber)
Nadi
We stayed in a budget hotel in Nadi which was really nice. It had 2 restaurants, 2 pools and even a salon. However the toilets weren’t up to much as there were biting bugs everywhere (including the toilet seat) so we had to use the ones next to the pool.
Our first night we went to one of the restaurants that was quite posh but was not very expensive. There was live music playing and you get a flower in your hair. This is worn on the right if you are taken and the left if you are single. After food and drink we went to the theatre room to wind down.
The next day we went into town. This was a little bit scary as people follow you and compete for your business, although as long as you handle it correctly it is sort of an experience and not too bad. The rest of the day we spent relaxing in the pool with a couple we had met that had just done the feejee experience. This was really good as we got loads of tips on the best way
to do our trip and they were really easy to get on with. We spent the night back in the bar with live music and then back in the theatre room.
Mango bay
This was our first day on the feejee experience bus. We stopped off at Nadi market. However this time it was less scary, we think this might have been because we went earlier. Next we went to Natadola beach for swimming and a bbq lunch. After this we went to look around malo malo village where we learnt how kava ceremonies work before sandboarding down some really steep sand dunes. When we arrived at the hostel everyone jumped in the pool to cool down from the heat before our group meal. At night we did trivia and our team won so we got a free jug of jungle juice.
Suva
We started off with an early trek that lasted three hours. Although it was not too hard of a walk it was quite difficult in the sun and we were all greatful to reach the shade of the forest. The walk involved wading along a stream and returning by tubing down a river.
This was so much fun as we were just sat in a rubber tyre floating along. Then we went to a waterfall where some people jumped in before heading back in a longboat. At the hostel we all met up for tea again and then had a bonfire on the beach.
Volivoli
We started off with a school visit. This was amazing as when we arrived we were welcomed with flowers around our necks and in our hair. We were shown around by the children before they sang and danced for us and the whole experience was really amazing. After this we went to another village where we were welcomed by the chief and a real kava ceremony. Kava tastes a bit like muddy water. We were all a little nervous beforehand as we had to introduce ourselves in Fijian. After this we did bilibili rafting which was so much fun. Everyone gets a long raft made from bamboo and has a ride down a muddy river. We all then played games in the water. When we arrived at the hostel dave joined in the volleyball match whilst I went kayaking with a friend. When we got back
the hostel put loads of games on and a crab race. Me and dave were captains and his team lost the games so he had to do a rendition of venga boys which was really funny. In the morning we went kayaking and the water was so clear you could see coral, fish and loads of jellyfish which looked really amazing.
Nadi
Onn the way back to nadi we stopped off for a curry where you got to make your own roti before heaing to the mudpools and hotsprings. This was not something we would do again but was worth trying. When we arrived at our hostel there had been a power cut so it was lit by candle light which was really nice and they put a bbq on for us.
Beachcomber
Beachcomber is a small beautiful island which we managed to walk all the way around in 8 minutes. We were in a 84 bed dorm but it was really nice as there weren't actually that many people there.
The first day we went coral viewing on a glass bottommed boat and you could see loads as the water was really clear.
The boat then stopped to feed the fish whisch was amazing. It made you feel like a little kid again from all the excitement. We then did some snorkelling where I finally got to see a reef shark (although this time Dave missed it). We then went to basket weaving lessons which were lots of fun and we got to keep the baskets (although don't think we will get them through customs). We ended the night in the bar.
The next day started with a trip out on the boat to snorkel in a new place. There were a few jellfish (although they were th harmelss ones) and one was on the top of Dave's head and he didn't even notice. We also saw needle fish which a re quite cool and lots of pretty coral. In the afternoon we went back on the coral viewing and fish feeding boat as we hadn't taken our camera the first day. This trip was even better than the first one as I'm sure we got longer with the fish and had more time looking at the coral. At night time we saw some Hula dancingand some fire dancing which has well
impressive. We were taught some bula dancing and then spent the rest of the night dancing and playing drinking games.
Today we just relaxed before arriving in Nadi.
