Hello! We are now in New Zealand. We have 25 days here, so we booked a Wicked Camper (the cheapest, and the backpackers favourite!!) and our plan was to see as many of the highlights as we can in that time. Our camper is called Captain Amazing! Living out of it has been surprisingly comfortable - especially considering it's not really a proper camper van, more like a biggish family car! Some NZ stats for you: - the country is fairly similar in size to the UK, but their population is approx 4 million compared to our 60 million!! - for [View Full Entry]

Our last blog from Australia! In the last two weeks in the land of Oz, I had to drag Ben along to the Neighbours Tour in Melbourne. I felt I owed it to my inner 12 year old, to go and see the infamous Ramsay Street whilst we were in Melbourne. We had a tour of the studios where they film, and all the sets like Lou Carpenter's Mechanics etc, then we saw the school where the outside view is used for Erinsborough High. Then we went to Ramsay Street, which is a normal residential street, where normal people live their [View Full Entry]

Since our last blog, we've met up with a few familiar faces and had some good days and nights out in Melbourne. We went to Melbourne Zoo a few weeks ago...we thought maybe we had overdone the zoo and wildlife park thing, but it was actually a decent zoo where a lot of the animals weren't surrounded by cages or glass - just hedges and riverbanks, so you could get a good look and some good pics. Think we've bored everyone with enough animal pics by now, but Ben got a brilliant picture of a Gorilla striking a pose, so we [View Full Entry]

G'day folks, So since our last blog about Fiji, we packed up our stuff from our 3 month stay in a cabin in Brisbane, and hit the road to make our way to Melbourne. It's about a 2000 KM journey, so we thought we'd take about two weeks to do it and stay 1 or 2 nights at the places we liked on the way. Our first stop was Byron Bay. We stayed there two nights, and we did the walk to the most easterly point of mainland Australia called Cape Byron, where there were some amazing views of the coastline. [View Full Entry]

Bula! We've just spent 4 days and nights in Fiji. We had thought about going to Fiji on and off for a while, but it was just weighing up the cost etc, but luckily the cost of flights had gone down and down in various sales, so we thought it had to be done, as we are over this side of the world and we never may be this way again. After much researching on the net, we booked a place called the Hideaway Resort, as it had really good reviews, but had pretty respectable prices. We thought this will be [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone, We have just returned from a magical few days on Fraser Island. We started the day by picking up the Landrover 4WD from Hervey Bay at around 6am and heading for the barge. The 4wd took a little getting used to but was great fun. The barge journey took about 40 mins and we arrived on the west side of the island. From there we had to go through the inland tracks to get to the beach which was around an hour of bumpy terrain, big hills and pot holes - this was awesome. We eventually arrived at Eurong [View Full Entry]

We've just got back from a little trip to the Whitsunday Islands, which are a group of 74 picturesque islands on the North East coast, with white sands and beautiful blue waters. There are so many different kinds of boats you can explore them on, but we went for a ship called the Solway Lass. It's an old 1900's pirate ship, and it's got so much more character than one of those big white plastic catamarans. We opted for a 3 day, 3 night trip, with 32 guests and 6 crew. We headed out on a Sat evening which was weird [View Full Entry]

G'day folks! Here's what we've been up to recently. We finally got round to visiting Australia Zoo, the one owned by the Irwin family. We've been to loads of zoos and wildlife parks since we've been here, so a lot of things we'd seen before obviously, but one good thing about this place is that the animals all have really nice surroundings and loads of space. I finally hugged a koala and got my photo taken with it! He was a cute little fella, but you can tell in my face that I was very worried he was going to wee [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone! Right, sincere apologies for being lame again, but we have good excuses! Since we last blogged, the first couple of weeks, we were pre-occupied with settling into our new jobs. Ben has got a 6 month contract with the Australian Government in the Justice and Legal department, doing admin bits and pieces. So he has basically got work for as long as we are in Brisbane (he doesn't actually have to see out the 6 months). I'd like to add here that Ben had to have a hair cut and shave his beard off for the interview, so he [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! Just a quick note to say we haven't been eaten by Great Whites or bitten by Redbacks or anything like that. We are alive and kicking!! Since the last blog we went to a place called Cape Tribulation where the Great Barrier Reef meets the Daintree rainforest - a pretty unique experience. It's like going back in time there - no petrol stations/cash machines for miles and no mobile signal!! It was a nice change from city life though. We went snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, which was amazing. It's just as good as it looks on the [View Full Entry]
