Ok so what am I doing still in Exmouth and about to undertake massive training course?? I still have about three weeks left in Australia before my visa runs out so I will be leaving Exmouth and carrying on my journey down to Perth and the bottom of Western Australia. When its time to give the car back I will now be leaving it in Perth and instead of flying out of the country I will be flying back up to Exmouth. It took less than 18 hours to get a 3 month extension on my visa. I have been given my pile of text books and stuff needed for the course, which is going to take me ages to read. The day before I was due to leave Exmouth I went out on the boat ... read more

Ok so the pier wasn't going to be my last dive.... I have now started my Rescue diver course. Yet another thick manual and this time loads more stuff to learn. There are only two of us doing the course and it’s now starting to get a little bit specialised. Myself and a German girl called Verena. My first day was taken up doing I first aid course and then it was into applying first aid to diving situations. After a day of learning in the freezing cold pool we were off to the beach to practice for real. Oh and yet another exam which I passed with 100% It was a cool windy day and the sea was really choppy, not the ideal weather for learning how to save people. We had lots of situations ... read more

The next day of diving didn't happen at all. We headed out on the boat and spent an hour getting to the dive sight. The boat didn't even slow down, but spun round and headed back to the marina. The waves were too big and the current to strong to go diving! To catch up for lost time the next day we did three dives. Rob being a really good instructor didn't worry too much about the theory once under the water and we had three really good dives taking photos of everything that moved. Unfortunately the digital camera that I was using was not very good and I missed loads of great shots because of it. By the end of the third dive I was now an Advanced Open Water Diver, Hooray!! Now being totally ... read more

I arrived in Exmouth and checked in for the week! The longest I have ever spent in one place. Luckily the hostel is nice and clean. I'm here for so long as I'm starting my PADI Open Water Diving course. I had planned on arriving Wednesday afternoon and spending Thursday having a look round. After going to the dive shop and being given a 300 page manual and told to read it, I didn't get to do much sightseeing on Thursday. The first two days of my dive course were spent in the classroom and the pool getting used to all the techniques I had learned. I was really lucky to have only two other people in the group which made things go much easier. On the third day we had a day off so a ... read more

Snorkelling in Coral Bay over the Ningaloo Reef we did the same in Turqoise bay in Exmouth and the reef was absolutely spectacular - sightings of sharks and turtles are also frequent. The beautiful shoals of coloured fish reminded me of finding nemo! - A different world. ... read more

Stayed in Exmouth... Slightly dull if you dont dive. There had been an accident on one of the Whale shark boats the day we arrived so it was the talk of the town. I got off here so Suzie&I had to say goodbye to trusty driver Sandy - very sad (Sob) Spent time in exmouth at the Town beach - nothing spectacular. the Bus to Turquoise bay had decided to burn out and they had not thought of replacing it yet which gives you and idea of how chilled out it is up there. Exmouth the town centre is small and pretty noneventful apart from a few cafes. Loads to do if you dive/have enough money to go on a tour which would be facinating, sadly this was not the case so a little dull, was ... read more

Alright I promise this will be the last edition of the Spring Break road trip…sorry Easter break. I believe we were on the boat and chasing after the whale sharks last I left off. Our group of friends, there was nine of us I think were part of Group 2, so we watched as Group 1 got geared up and waited on the back of the boat. They jumped in and we took off to move ahead of the shark, unfortunately just as we jumped in he or she started to swim down so we only got a brief glimpse but it was still enough to get the excitement going again. It was huge and the next time we would be real close and everyone was talking and excited…I believe the word is giddy. Unfortunately the ... read more

Yesterday I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life so far. Swimming with Whale Sharks - the world's largest fish. They are of course totally harmless (otheriwse I wouldn't have done it!) - unlike all other sharks they aren't meat eaters they feed on Plankton and Krill - like whales. How it works is that a spotter plane is flying above the ocean and will radio in the position of a whale shark and which way it is heading. Your boat then moves into a position to intercept the whale shark, dumps you in the water to wait for it to pass you and then you swim on with it for a few minutes before the boat picks you up and that process starts all over again. The first couple of times we ... read more

We fell out of bed this morning and on to the bus to our overnight camp site. Hung over to bits, a full day of driving , and then having to camp in a horrible campsite with not enough sheets or pillow cases but plenty of insects that kept falling on me. After making the girls dinner , we sat around the camp fire for a bit. That was just beautiful…communing with nature and all that . Then we retired to our glorious accommodation, Irene didn’t want a blanket when we went to bed but when the temperature dropped below freezing she was shaking me and pulling blankets off me in the middle of the night. Couldn’t sleep anyway as you constantly thought you were going to be attacked. ... read more

My dive class went on a celebration dinner for passing the course and Irene and Annie went on a Scooter Safari for the day, Irene got a scooter and Annie went on the back of the instructor's . As Ruth, Mike and I are walking out of the caravan park towards the bottle shop we see this scooter turning in on the wrong side of the road. Mike straight away is like, oh that must be Irene. I of course tell him no, can't be. We get in front of the bottle shop and of course....it is! She is delighted with herself though and claims that's the only mistake she made all day! So we trot along to dinner and arrange to meet up later....which we do but not in the pub!... read more
