Monkey Mia was great. Went out on a few cruises on at Cat boat and saw dolphins, dugongs (It's a cross between a dolphin and a seal) and turtles. Ended up finding my way into the staff party circle. They are all travellers that just didn't leave some had been there 2 weeks others 2 years. Got offered a job to work on the boat but it's too small a place for me. So after getting very very very drunk with the staff and being given a personal tour of one persons caravan I decided to head off. I went to Carnarvon but it was like another ghost town so only stayed one night. I spent the night trying to share my sleeping bag with about 3 mosquito's...they won. My leg's look worse then some of ... read more

In case you were worried i survived the surfing escapades. Bali was awesome; the surfing, the food, the gili's, the drunk nights out...and sharing it with jimmy and flash topped it off. It was great to see them. We arrived in Darwin 1st October and what a shock that was....it was dead. How anybody can live there i dont understand. I apologise if i offend anyone, but there is absolutely nothing to do, except eat and go to 'The Lost Arc' for TOT (tits out tuesdays). I imagine its just a main point for entry/exit and to transfer to the major tour expeditions, but if you dont need to go there....dont bother. Richie and i were pretty bored until the rest of the gang arrived...Lisa, Segal and Darryl. (Darryl's eyes when the dancers demonstrated TOT was ... read more

Life is good!!!! We are currently in Coral Bay, a tiny beach town with the most beautiful beaches!! Seriously, i never had any idea how pristine the beaches on the West coast are. Since my last update we have spent some time in Perth, Monkey Mia and Denham. Perth was great, what a pretty city. We caught up with one of my old calisthenic mates, Verity, which was great, and she generously let us crash at her place for a couple of nights, so some more respite from the tent, woohoo. We did a boat trip out to Rottnest Island which was really nice and then did a sunset cruise up the Swan river, taking in all the million dollar properties and the impressive sunset. Nice address. We also went to see Varekai, Cirque de Soleil. ... read more

CORAL BAY - 150km south of Exmouth and 1200km north of Perth On the 23rd of September we woke early (around 7am), packed up our stuff and said our goodbyes to the lovely camp hosts - who reminded me again about the dangers of snakes. Safely in our van we cruised back to Exmouth to pick up supplies and fuel before carrying on south to Coral Bay. About 15mins later I saw something out of the corner of my eye in the ocean but ignored it. Ten seconds later Maria shouted “WHALE” at me forcing me to pull over J We could both see him quite clearly in the distance and by chance we had pulled over next to a dirt track leading away from the road towards the shore. We drove down in (a little ... read more

we had a bit of a lay in today but aS usual i didn't (why owhy am i such a light sleeper!) you can hand feed wild dolphins here (if ur lucky to be chosen by the ranger!) apprantley years ago a wife of a fisherman started throwing fish to teh dolphins when her husband came back and ever since then the dolphins have come back to feed. unfortunatley they have to monitor it all now and they only give them a certain amount of fish everyday so not everyone can feed them now! there are 5 dolphins that come in and they do litteraly take the fish right outta ur hand but we didn't get picked by the horrid ranger! we left monkey mia around 1030 and our next stop was Hamelin bay where we ... read more

Coral Bay during the school holidays, not the ideal time for a visit and we probably got one of the last camping spots in the first of the two campsites there. Just as well we had phoned ahead. Disappointing place really, not much to do except head to the beach or pay a fortune for a boat trip. A lot of the kids were snorkelling just off shore, but when we tryed it it wasn't up to much. In one section there were a lot sandy coloured stingrays in the shallows, but they were impossible to see until they moved and mindful of Steve Irwin's fate we soon tired of that activity too. We cooked in the pitiful camp kitchen and stayed a while talking with some Dutch who had driven that far from Darwin in ... read more

Australasia » Australia » Western Australia » Coral Bay By elluco May 21st 2007 7.30. It feels like ground hog day! I'm late, everyone in the group knows my name as I walk in as they've been frantically calling the hostel (which is incidentally 50m away) and asking every punter who walks into the shop 'are you luke'. Nice entrance. This is my first and only crack at this. Hope the Gods are with me. Had a few last night with a Finnish couple. Cant remember most of it, but do remember them stating that the Finnish national dish looks like shit and actually tastes like it also. They also said dont bother going to the country as its shit also! Well there u have it. Chaque Cherac was right! So first thing to do when ... read more

7.30am. The day had arrived. Big Blue Wobbly Fish Day. I have been looking forward to doing this for years, by all accounts the most worthwhile thang to do when to comes to fish and swimmer interaction. Why? They're huge, anything between 5 and 30m. The biggest one in this area is normally around 14m. Its real hit and miss with these things. Unlike whales they're sharks! Really. Which means they dont have to come up for air, so could in theory potter around in the deepest depths. The good news is they come to coral bay between march and june to feed on the abundant supply of plankton that Ningaloo Reef has. Note abundant supply of plankton, abundant supply of plankton, abundant supply of plankton, they dont eat ´me´ meat. I arrived at the ... read more

how can you talk about 36 hours on a bus and make it interesting. I cant. But I sure can give out shit about the bloody Aboriginal Woman with her, shit and smell infested kids, crying baby, shitty nappies, serious body odour in the seat in front of me. Do i really have to be subjected to the smell of baby shit in the name of travelling. Is there some health and safety law against it? How can a baby cry so much and kids drule so much on the window and rustle so many plastic bags. Ah yea, possibly the lack of mental stimulis, such as teddies and whatever else you give kids on large transit journeys. Who bloody knows, all i know is they're in front of me, theres a tribe of aboriginals down ... read more

So ... these past two days we spent most of the time on the road, covering kilometers, in the desert and its few resorts... Coral bay, then Exmouth, Auski... Direction Broome. Being on the road is quite interesting actually... we made friends with fellows backpackers and had lots of fun spotting wildlife of the area ('roos). Last night we camped in the middle of the Karijini NP desert... A bit scarry - especially after hearing all the snake & scorpion stories just before bedtime from our guide... which would inevitably end : "no worries though... if you get bitten we have few hours..." Few hours until what???? The night at the camp site went fine though... the cold and the dingo's walking in between our tents and houwling didn't keep us up at all! (hmm) ... read more
