DAY 172 Another broken night as we were disturbed by the teen party goers, they just seemed to wander around the area, thankfully at times out of earshot and then they would wander back to their fire and then you would hear the sound of branches snapping as they were gathering more firewood. I have no objection to them partying but it is against the law to snap off branches from the trees in conservation areas and of course, party away but do have respect for those around you who want to sleep. Of course at 7.00 as we were getting up, they left and so left behind them, bottles strewn around, broken bottles in the fire, lots of litter from food packaging. For me this conservation area as beautiful as it is, I think ... read more

DAY 171 We (I) had a good nights sleep, Caroline tells me that though the music stopped at a reasonable time, though a lot of the swearing and shouting carried on well into the night, I think that Caroline has taken to wearing ear plugs to try and block some of the sound out otherwise she does not sleep. I heard some arguing at some point during the night but then I fell asleep and the night fell silent again. I got up and put the kettle on, not on the open fire as it had burned out over night, it was still hot and with a little care could be brought back to life quite easily, but just for a cup of tea, it would be very wasteful to burn more wood. The sunshine ... read more

DAY 170 It was a little before 3.00 this morning when the Possum put in an appearance, well, when I say appearance, I really mean I heard it snuffling around outside on the table. I bashed the side of the tent, it went quiet for I don’t know how long before it reappeared, this occurred several times over, I am not sure who gave up me or the Possum but I was not disturbed by it again. Andy went outside for a pee and saw a juvenile Possum sat on a log, we think he was practising his technique for when he is older and will need to scavenge food off unsuspecting tourists. However, just after 3.00 I was woken by the sound of a vehicle, this is most unusual a place like this would ... read more

DAY 169 Before we start today’s blog, this is not just a special day for Australia but it is one year ago today that our visas were officially granted. A day we had waited for so long. I awoke to those immortal words “Andy, can I borrow your axe or is it under Caroline’s Pillow?” Great Ken was going to stoke the fire up what a lovely way to start the day. Andy was already up and the kettle was on for our first brew of the day, I could hear the rest of the Truman family padding around outside, it was not long before I joined them. We sat around the campfire drinking tea and chatting, the sun was well and truly on its way up, there is talk of breakfast and Kahlia suddenly announces ... read more

DAY 168 It had rained quite a lot in the night, and with a broken nights sleep, we just lay in our sleeping backs, until the motivation of the day got to me. I wandered over to the picnic bench and sparked the laptop up, we knew we had Internet access so I had the chance to check our e-mails and see how Kangaroojack was getting on. We were delighted to have received a brilliant epic message from Lee and Marilyn Harris from Bathurst in New south Wales whom we shared a great part of our Tasmanian adventure with. Lee told us that Kangaroojack had inspired them to do a blog, and they have started in on My travel blog, which is where Kangaroojack produces his, we checkout the internet link and it has the makings ... read more
