Tourlou!... read more

Got back in after a night out in the Collingwood bars, getting the tram from outside Southern Cross station on Spencer St. They were not that busy, busy the music was good. We got chatting to a guy from St Helens and family in NW England and Wales of all places. Just enough drink to fuel the pleasant walk back through town getting back for 02:30ish. Raisen bread and tea then bed for 03:30ish. Woke at 07:15 and got up at 8 for more tea and raisen bread. Wasn't sure whether we'd have enough time for the anticipated 2 hour plus trip but packed cossie despite it being a cooler 19 degrees and overcast / broken high cloud. Started across West Gate Bridge to the M1 at 11:00, but instead of diverting to Torquay, carried on. ... read more

Port Campbell is a very "touristy" stop, in that everything is super expensive, lots of cafes, motels and restaurants. The small supermarket is woefully inadequate in its range of provisions, and my sugestion would be, if you are coming down here, either bring all your food or head inland for provisions. The beach/bay is one of the most picturesque we have seen!!! even though the water is absolutely freezing. (only one of us has ventured in so far) Oddly enough, there is no boat ramp, we were amazed at the number of boats and trailers around town and for the life of us, wondered where they went to launch. Our dilemma was solved when we saw a crane at the end of the wharf lifting a boat off a trailer and swinging it out over the water. ... read more

Packed up, and getting quite good at it, if I say so myself, and on the road by 9.15am, our odyssey continues.... The G.O.R. turns upwards and inland with great views and curves through forest areas, which made riding exceptionaly pleasant, being a few degrees cooler. The only problem of course, was the shadows on the roadway made us very aware of our lines and corners, having said that, the road and ride was fantastic.Breakfast was at Lavers Hill, the cafe was called "The Shop", only been open 9 weeks, but very comfortable and will be a bikers stop as soon as word gets out, as it has the ambience, friendlieness and great food needed. Most of the food is made on the premises premises by the old surfer dude owner. Back down the hills toward ... read more

I start the day at 7:30; not early enough to see the tops of the 12 Apostles bathed in morning glow, but early enough to mostly own the road. The landscape is beautiful, backlit and glowing. There are fleeting views of the ocean past the hills. It is at this time that I feel that cycling on the Great Ocean Road is truly the best way to experience it. The terrain slowly evolves, giving you time to savor the beauty. Birds flit and tweet to the background drone of the surf. All of this without the din of a motor. I savor the ride, expansive views of the coast, the strength in my legs. I stop at tourist spots: Loch Ard Gorge, 12 Apostles, and Gibson's steps, steps that lead down to the beach. These formations ... read more

After an early morning walk along Apollo Bay we headed west and made our first stop at Maits Rest Rainforest Walk in the Great Otway National Park. The loop took us through dense rainforest that is the beneficiary of rich fertile volanic soil. Next up was the 12 Apostles and I was stunned at the amount of people at the attraction as it is not exactly in the heart of a thriving metropolis. This natural wonder is special and there are various vantage points to look out over the rock formations. We then moved onto Island Archway and then to Loch Ard Gorge which was my highlight for the day. Talk a walk on the sand if you ever have the chance to visit, an amazing spot. Port Campbell was not far away and that is ... read more

Geo: -38.6191, 142.996SingaporeSingapore is flat! No-one told me, so for some reason I thought it was hilly like Hong Kong. Flat and boring scenically, as the high rise modern buildings ensure that no distant views are available and in most places it is not possible to see the sea although Singapore is an island.Despite this it makes for an interesting stopover. We arrived on Monday evening after having a night on the plane (effectively losing the day) so we did not expect to sleep much. By eleven pm we decided we should try and get some sleep or at least lie down. The next we knew it was MIDDAY Tuesday and we had had another 13 hours sleep! Then we spent the rest of the day in the Botanical Gardens. A very soothing place with beautiful ... read more

Today was the first day that this holiday really took off. Nothing against the first couple of days here of course, it's just that I'm not really sure any place I've visited can hold a candle to the sheer beauty and magnitude of the Great Ocean Road and 12 Apostles National Park. Ali and I got off to a somewhat late start today -- which I guess shouldn't surprise anyone at this stage given present company. We had a noon call time to pick up the rental car that Ali's lovely flat-mate, Julie Z, had booked for us using her travel agency contacts. Luckily we were able to make up some time along the way because we ended up needing every last minute of exploration time on our afternoon adventure. Started off down the highway in ... read more

The road trip continues on the Great Ocean Road. Emma, Andy and I left Melbourne about 9am but the location of our campground was such that we didn't reach the Great Ocean Road until about 11. Our first stop was Aireys Inlet were we saw the light house. As you can see from the pictures are weather was not good, but even in bad weather the Great Ocean Road is beautiful. There are several small towns along the Great Ocean Road, but we only made a few stops. We wanted to stop in Lorne, but there appeared to be some sort of surfing competitions going on, so there was no place to park. We promised ourselves that we would stop the next day on the way back. We stopped in Apollo Bay and climbed to a ... read more

Hello everybody!! Welcome to the last days of our trip. Right now I am very much looking forward to coming back home, seeing everyone, enjoying M’s home cooking, wearing new clothes and celebrating Christmas. I guess when one’s been away this long, towards the end, one feels a terrible nostalgia. There is only so much one can do and see before starting to feel too far way and missing one’s own life. I guess the tip I would give all travellers is to travel for a limited amount of time, in order to focus on things, appreciate every new country and city and not take things for granted. Notwithstanding the fact that we are extremely grateful that we’ve had the chance to see all these places and to share them with you! So, our last days ... read more
