Arrived in Melbourne yesterday after a flight from Brisbane, brrrrrrrrr what a difference in temperature only about 17degrees here, had to get out my long trousers and cardigan, still I guess it is their winter almost. Decided to walk to the beach which isn't too far away, the walk to the beach took about twenty minutes then walked along the seafront to various points of interest. You could see in the distance the city, oil refineries and large vessels out at sea. Amazingly the water was very clear and there were quite a few men fishing on the pier, I did actually see one man catch a fish which wasn't a bad size. Also bobbing up and down in the sea a few black swans. There was a Luna Park on the seafront which is a ... read more

We set out on foot again today - it was so nice in the morning, not too humid and the sun not too hot - yet... Our first stop was the Queen Victora market - this place was so big! Plenty of really fresh seafood - huge crabs, blue crabs, black crabs, any type of fish you could image really. Along w/ the seafood, perfectly cut pieces of meat ranging from beef to kangaroo to goat - and even beef tounge or goat kidneys if you so wanted. In a whole other building were the cheese shops and bread/pastry items. Why do we not have these in the US - we think one should open in Denver as ppl are so concerned about things being fresh and local - it would be a hit! Another section ... read more

Auf gumtree ... read more

We had a nice breakfast in the hotel and went to see St. Kilda’s Sunday market after that. It was a nice art and artefact market, which we ended with some very nice ice cream. Then we took the train to a nice park where we did some Geo Caching and finally could leave a travel-bug that we took all the way from home. We did three of them al together and at three thirty realized that we missed lunch and went for a bite overlooking a lake where boats were sailing. When we came back to our place we saw the sun setting and went straight to the pier to hopefully see the little penguins come on land. There were lots of people and as it got dark we saw them coming on to the ... read more

In the morning we went to central Melbourne and walked through the old shopping arcades. It is a nice area of the city and we had some coffee and cake at one place. We did mainly window shopping but had a good time. Around eleven o’clock we met up with Jason Boyed and his son Jordan. We decided to have lunch with them on the south side of the river Yarra. Alex also came with her kids and we had a simple but very nice lunch. At quarter past one we walked over to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the largest stadium in Melbourne, able to seat 100.000 spectators, to watch a game of Australian Rules Football or footy. It was an important game between the Hawthorn Hawks and the Collingwood Magpies. The game had pulled a ... read more

We got up at 06:15 to be ready for breakfast with Josephine and Chris. They live just outside of Corryong on a hill overlooking the valley, a beautiful farmhouse with plenty of room for family, friends and animals. Chris is the local vet and Jose works as a high school teacher. They have four girls (15-21) and the oldest was home. After a real Australian breakfast with homemade pancakes, bread, jam and coffee and a lot of caching up we drove down towards Melbourne. On the way to Melbourne we past Tallangatta by lake Hume and saw the dead trees still standing in the lake as they have since the 1950’s. We of course stopped at Glenrowan to look at the place where Ned Kelly fell, and to have a coffee with scones. One thing that ... read more

We arrived in Kunnunura with no more of a plan than to top up food and fuel. However, it is home of a huge reservoir and hence a huge amount of agriculture. So we thought we’d take a punt for some work. Chris was quickly offered a job as chef in a café, thanks to the best reference ever from Ben (cheers mate, we owe you a drink). We had a few days before Chris started, so we visited Lake Argyle and the grotto a beautiful local swimming area with a waterfall running in. Chris found the café to be a very casual place with a lovely, easygoing boss. I on the other hand had a job weeding in a sandalwood plantation. I’d like you all to close your eyes and imagine your in the sun, ... read more

Hi everyone, A new chapter of our journeys, we have made it to Oz. However it did take a while. We set off from Queenstown and headed to Christchurch. We picked up and dropped a few people on the way but eventually we got to Christchurch at about 4pm. Our flight was not till 6am the next morning and we decided not to stay anywhere, maybe hanging around in Christchurch even though there was still a lot of devastation in the center. However, we thought we would take a chance and see if we could get a earlier flight, so instead we got dropped off at the airport. We were lucky and there were spaces on a earlier flight, BUT it was going to cost $900 for us to change flights, so that idea went out ... read more
