I'm slowly catching up on my blog, apologies for delay; here is the start of my Ozzie trip. It was simply wonderful to fly in to Melbourne very early in the morning, and be greeted by Darius and Zephi...difficult to believe for quite some time that I could really touch and hug them! And only 20 minutes or so to drive to their home in Coburg, see Gaynor and Salvi too. Great that I seemed to avoid jet lag on both those long trips, possibly helped by the 24 hour delay in LA, which gave me time to think myself into Ozzie time. I was immediately plunged into family life, cycling with the kids to school and meeting some of the parents at the little school cafe which is run by volunteers, and greatly benefits networking ... read more

We stayed with Erin in Melbourne, it was so nice to see a friendly face :-) she was really good to us and definitely showed us a great time and also it was easter!!! On our first day we went on the neighbours tour which was soooo cheesy it was funny though we had the most hilarious irish tour guide called Jerry who was a die hard neighbours fan. On the tour we just went to the street and then saw a few buildings from the set and for our picture taken with one of the old characters called stingray. It is apparantly a must do in Melbourne!! That night Erin took us to the comedy festival which was taking place in Melbourne and we went to the Best of British one. One of the comedians ... read more

Thank you Tuckers for a most wonderful break! The Tuckers - Jenny and Brian, with daughters Katie, Gillie and Ruthy - are South Africans now living in Australia, on a beautiful 73 acre plot of land in Ellinbank, a 1.5 hour drive east from Melbourne. Friends of our friend Glenda, they invited us into their home even though they didn’t know us, and made us feel so welcome. Over Easter they went away, so we played house, feeding the dog Jabu and the chickens, baking, playing and just relaxing! No sight seeing, no hiking, nothing! It felt strange, but absolutely wonderful! A chance to recharge the batteries! After 11 nights sleeping in a house, we did wonder whether we would be able to readapt into caravan life, but, safe to say, two days back in Cazza ... read more

On Wednesday it was still rainy and I could feel my cold developing into flu but we couldn’t spend another day bumming so we headed back into the city. We decided to climb the sky tower - by climb I mean pay to use the lift. It is 305m high and contains the tallest post box in the southern hemisphere (unfortunately we didn’t have a postcard!). The building itself is very thin leading up to a wider bit at the top which has binoculars placed all around it. We walked around it for a while spotting all the different sites and then went to the cafe and had a beer and a glass of wine overlooking the whole city. That evening we had re-arranged to meet our friends Sarah, Carley and Chris; they arrived with their ... read more

DAY 105 We are both feeling relaxed on this journey, it has probably taken some time to settle into a bit of a routine in what we are doing and get organised. I guess for the both of us working in Project Management we seem to keep thinking of ways to improve what we do and how we do things, but whichever way you look at it this journey is an exciting adventure and is to be enjoyed, albeit relaxed, one thing we do not want to do is lie around all day. So a little late out of bed again this morning, not a problem, as we are not doing too much today, just a little bit of prep for Tasmania. Last night Andy promised me a breakfast of Eggy Bread, it kept me awake ... read more

DAY 104 We both didn’t wake until 8.00am after our inaugural card game last, it was nothing heavy just funny. So really today, we got up, had breakfast, did the laundry, tidied the back of the truck and sorted a few things out, went into Melbourne, and after a few hours came back to base camp. That’s all we did really, but I am sure we can find something to flower up the day with. I did not have one single good map of Melbourne, just several maps from the information stand on the camp site, so really finding our way into Melbourne was going to be relatively easy as all we had to do was follow Elizabeth Street, right! Wrong! Somewhere in the middle Elizabeth street changes and moves, then moves again. Whichever way you ... read more
