Day 61 – Wednesday 29th August - Moodini Bluff (WA) to Tcharkuldu Rock, Minnipa (SA) The weird thing I forgot to mention yesterday is that there is a 45 minute time difference when you pass into Caiguna from the West. Officially there is a 1.5 hour time difference between South and Western Australia but this little time zone took us by surprise. The 45 minute time advance didn’t mean that much to us as we don’t have to go to work tomorrow or catch a plane but it was unexpected. At 7am, or maybe it was 7.45am, there was little action in the rest area as the grey nomads seemed to be having a lie in. After a quick breakfast we packed away and hit the road at what might have been 8.15am, but ... read more

Today we visited Warren. It was a lovely Autumnal day with clear skies and light winds. I really like this walk as there are no 'too steep' sections, lots of different terrain and it is really well marked. You can find out more about Warren at our earlier blogs , , and . ... read more

We made another trip to Hale with weekend. If you would like to know how to get there - I have included a route map. It was delightful to see water flowing in the creek and waterfall again after the last time we visited when it was bone dry. You might remember our previous blog about Hale: - but this was when it was bright and sunny - today's snaps are from a cool windy day that threatened (but didn't) shower. In other words, pretty good for walking. I took along Peter's golf umbrella in case it did rain - and it made a pretty good walking stick, so I might make 'taking an umbrella along' a bit of a habit. The only problem with this walk is that it is short - only 2 hours ... read more

Introduction It is with much pleasure that I share with you our visit to a great bush walk situated near Williamstown in SA called Warren Conservation Park. It is a 9km walk - up hill and down with fabulous views, interesting rocks and very serene bush land. It is part of the Heysen trail but this is a well-marked loop trail. You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness, although there are no horrendous steep sections, and if you are taking children they will need to be able to walk for up to four hours. There are many interesting rock formations in this park - many containing mica which reflects brightly in the sun - so remember to wear your sunnies on this walk. Introduction Sometimes when I talk to people about this "blogging" thing, they do ask, "So what is your favourite bush walk?" and I reply, that "All walks are great, and they change every time you visit, but if I had to choose one, it would be Hale." Hale is a small Conservation Park located near Williamstown (the "southern gateway to the Barossa"). It is probably the hardest park to find - we have had 5 visits that I recall and we drive past the turn off every time! To get there go up Main North Road through Salisbury and then take a right hand turn to One Tree Hill. Take this road (nice views for the passengers) to Kersbrook and then through a few corners, following the signs to Williamstown. From Williamstown (great toilets on the ... read more

Happy Father's Day As it was Father's Day, we allowed Peter to choose which walk he would like to do. He chose Warren, a lovely park that we have visited only once before - and that was a hot day in March. There had been steady rain in Adelaide yesterday, which had really cleared the air - making the scenery extra sharp and vibrant. It was just perfect weather for walking. Warren is situated half way between Kersbrook and Williamstown, about 1 hour north of our place. The turn off is a sneaky number - a right hand turn on to Watts Gully road that is easy to miss - and you can park at the entrance to the park which is about 3 kms further down this road. The path takes in much of ... read more

The Warren Conservation park was brilliant. The park is just outside of Williamstown in South Australia. It was a well marked secluded trail that goes around a valley then to the top of a hill where a fire tower provides excellent views to the sea and to the north - brialliant. Then you descend into the gully and find some interesting rocks (like shark tooth) and an absolutely enormous spider!! I would recommend this walk to anyone - it was great.
