Day 2 - Sea World
Published: March 28th 2012Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Gold Coast » Main BeachI got up and the temperature was warm. I had cereal for breakfast, there wasn't alot to eat for breakfast because there wasn't any ovens or cooking materials. We got changed and took the lift down to the hotel lobby where our bus was waiting for us. We had to show them the tickets before hopping onto the bus. The bus was crowded and the bus driver was an old man who seemed really nice. The bus ride took around 10 minutes. We got to Sea World and there was a lot of people in the line to come in and buy tickets. We brought our tickets and walked in the door. Sea World had a few 'scary' rides, but the rest of the rides were for kids and families, which was quite boring for me... ... read more
First Trip to SeaWorld
Published: July 20th 2011Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Gold Coast » Main BeachWe gave in and purchased 2 season passes to Sea World. Even though we're just here for another 4 weeks (one of those travelling down to the Central Coast), we know we will make good use of the passes. Today's visit was our first - scouting out the area, checking out the rides and shows. The park doesn't open until 10am, just about right for our sleep-ins these days. Alex didn't wake us until nearly 8:00, so by the time we got lunch packed (good idea - the prices were obscene!) and got ourselves in the car, it was nearly 10. Luckily, SeaWorld is less than 20 minutes away... another reason why we indulged in the year-long pass. We had purchased our tickets online ahead of time and that saved a lineup... we quickly made it ... read more
So we really are on the brink now ,tomorrow morning Philip will attempt his next run and the nerves are beginning to show , it was a long old day of doing nothing a lazy Saturday in the sun in Australia premier holiday spot reading newspapers and books and watching the world pass by. Heaven in many ways but today its just impossible to enjoy any of it . We just need it to be Sunday now and get on running . There is nothing left to prep just a large bowl of spag bol for tea. Its bobby’s favourite and coach Lou texts us to tell us pasta pasta makes you faster which Philip likes. We watch the wheelchair half marathon and while this is undoubtley inspiring we just want to run, we make no ... read more
Early start to see foot doctor last time Philip was in Australia he needed medical attention for mouth ulcers and the appointment followed a pretty similar course . The doctor takes alook at the condition and show disgust errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. you just don’t get that at home and then advises you to go and bath in the sea. That would be the sea with Lions ,Tigers and Bears in? I mean sharks, crocs and Jellyfish. I don’t wish to labour the point on box jellyfish but these are the world deadliest creature and i quote from our second hand book "You have virtually no chance of surviving the venomous sting, unless treated immediately. The pain is so excruciating and overwhelming that you would most likely go into shock and drown before reaching the shore." I think Philip ... read more
So we are moving to a little chalet in the resort of Southport. Just like when Philip was a child holidaying in a chalet in Southport. unfortuanly there are no blue coats here just a mad chinease owner . For some reason un be known reason Philip buys a book from the second-hand Book shop called Australia's Natural Killers. which is so disturbing he has now hid it under the bed, Australia has more things that can kill you than almost anywhere else and a alarmily number reside here in Queensland. killer spiders, birds that will rip you to pieces with there claws, snakes that will render you dead in 15mins and that before you even bothered to dip your foot in the sea with the world's deadliest jellyfish and sharks. Philip double locks all the ... read more
To judge the whole gold coast by surfers paradise would be harsh head north out of southport and it really is a beautiful place with little fishing boats bobbing on mud flats, while running thou this ideallic scene . Philip suddenly hears someone screaming catch and realizes a ball is flying his way which he promptly catches in stunning style, The group inform him its his turn to bat as he caught it. which just wouldn't happen anywhere else so in he goes and after a couple of quick singles is caught in the deep after mis judging a slower ball but then gets to bowl and dismisses the star batsman with a perfect leg break think Shane warne ball of the century to Mike Gatting and your half way there* The People are really enthusiatic ... read more
So a quick hop on a plane for an hour flight to the gold coast, The original plan was to take the bus and investigate some of the exciting places along the way like Coffs Harbour but the plane was cheaper and it gives us yet another reason to want to come back to this beautiful place. So to the Gold coast, Surfers Paradise we fly, Flying has become something of more pleasurable experience for Philip since shedding 6 stone now he doesn’t have to prise himself into the seat extend the seatbelt to the very end and hope it fits. On a Flight to Kaunas last October the buckle only just fit and impended breathing for the entire flight and he was close to taking the ultimate humiliation and asking for the extension belt they ... read more
Ocean Beach Caravan Park - Miami
Published: June 4th 2010Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Gold Coast » Main BeachWell what a day! After spending a pleasant two weeks at Hope island, where our friends Tony & Judy kindly allowed us to park the new caravan in the driveway of the $20,000,000 property that they are house sitting, we have now relocated to Ocean Beach Tourist Park (about 5 mins from our house). All of the pent up tension about being watched by experts while reversing the van into a tight spot, finally came to an end. We managed to reverse straight into position at one attempt - phew!! We'll be here for a week while Rose attends a few appointments then we'll make our final departure heading north to the Sunshine Coast. Thank God we didn't head south into the recent mini tornado at Lennox head! I fitted a pair of reversing cameras to ... read more
