Sounds easy enough bags packed, tickets bought so off we go. We arrived at the station with plenty of time to go however, due to the weather (minus 6 degress, snow and ice) our train had been cancelled and the previous train delayed (a sign of things to come maybe?). We bought a hot drink to help us thaw out whilst waiting. Whilst waiting we realised the platform we were due to travel from was heading North not South so went to check it out. Apparently there had been a fatality at Glasgow so all trains to and from Glasgow had been cancelled! Eventually we boarded a train heading to Manchester Airport where we would have to change at Preston. Then a we caught the train to London Euston (arriving at 11.45pm) before getting the underground ... read more

We left Simon's after sleeping on his sofa for 2 nights. Very different to British student life, they live in the most beautiful apartment overlooking a lake. Really spacious and modern, they also all drive really nice cars and live a more luxurious lifestyle than any students I've ever met! Did a major shop to replace all the essentials that were stolen, shopping in Australia is good, lots of Billabong shops but it's the same price as back home. All other shops are probably about half the price although you don't really get any of the brands from home, but I recognise lots from the developed cities in Asia. Drove from there to a hostel in Surfers Paradise and we've decided to carry on the trip but swap the van for a normal car and stay ... read more

Ceri and I left Sydney on the long coach trip up to Brisbane, 16 hours. We were recommended by a friend of mine called Danny that used to live in my home town Newbury but now lives in Brisbane to stay at the Bunk hostel. The first night at the bunk they had the Nintendo Wii champions on, being a Wii fan I had to have a go. I got to the final of the bowling but it was running late so me and the guys in the final were awarded a jug of beer each, which is nice but I hate beer and they would not swap it for a JD and coke ...... tight arses. In the morning there was work offered to me by the hostel to move some boxes, this took me ... read more

Bruny Island Our cruise down the eastern side of Bruny Island down to the Southern Ocean was spectacular and we had an amazing day with the weather. We saw heaps of dolphins (both Bottleneck and Common variety) and plenty of seals and the coastline was magnificent. Dover Well Dover surprised us as the caravan park and surrounding scenery was very nice. From Dover we drove down to Cockle Creek which is the most southerly point to which you can drive anywhere in Australia with a pretty little sheltered harbour and there were a number of yachts moored. There were heaps of oysters around the shoreline you could gather and also it was the first time we have brought out our fishing lines in Tasmania and we caught about half a dozen small Australian Salmon from the ... read more

I want to tell you all Thank You for wishing me happy birthday. It was even better because I kind of got a two-day birthday because a lot of people from home didn't know that my birthday was actually the day before for the states. The night before my birthday my roommates and I all went to a club (I forget the name) to celebrate because we didn't want to go out on Sunday night because we had class the next day. It was a lot of fun. On my actual birthday Sabrina and I went to the movies and saw Slum Dog Millionaire, which was a great movie! and then the rest of our roommates joined us for sushi for dinner. (I'm not sure if I mentioned this before but my roommates consist of three ... read more

7th January 2009 to 20th February Low Head & Georgetown This area at the top of the East Tamar Valley is where the Tamar enters the Bass Strait and Georgetown is a wonderful little historical town. Because of its location to Bass Strait it is very windy as it is effected by the Roaring Forties. Bell Bay just south of Georgetown is a hub of industrial activity and the proposed location of the controversial pulp mill. Scottsdale In the centre of the north east we were lucky enough to free camp at a delightful spot next to a small lagoon which you can see amongst the photos on the right. Scottsdale was the first place we experienced the delicious Tasmanian cherries of which we have since consumed around 8 kilos. They are quite large and we ... read more

Last night Sabrina and I went on a river boat cruise on the Brisbane river, actually it was more like a “booze cruise” because we didn’t see much of the river because it was raining and we were more worried about getting drinks than anything else, well that and meeting new people of course. We met a lot of Germans and a few Americans, I can’t remember meeting any one from anywhere else. After the cruise we went to an “after party” which just consisted of a bunch of people we met going to a club called “down under.” It took forever to get into the bar and then when we did it was so packed that we left shortly after arriving. We then took a cab home and immediately went to bed. This morning I ... read more

So, I've moved completely into my new temporary home. I really like it here, it's very clean and everyone is very nice. Yesterday I had my first taste of Vegemite...it's a little too salty for my liking and I don't understand how Aussie's eat it on toast. I think it would be very good on popcorn because it almost tastes like vegetable bouillon, but on toast I didn't much care for it. This morning (which is Valentine's Day here in Australia) I went on my first run here in Australia. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful place to run. The botanical gardens near Garden's Point campus, which is where I will be attending school, are absolutely beautiful. I wish you could all be here to see how wonderfully beautiful Brisbane is. I miss you! ... read more

First! I found a place to live!! It's kind of like a dorm in that there are 15 rooms and we share showers, toilets and kitchen and commons areas. It's a very clean place that is about a 5 minute walk to my campus. OH and it's cleaned three times a week by a cleaning service! ha! I'll post pictures as soon as I move in tomorrow! I feel much better about being here because I actually have my own space. I'm very excited! SO my address is: Nicole Clark Room 13 225 Vulture St. South Brisbane QLD 4101 AUSTRALIA Second, I want to thank all of you that have emailed me or called me to give me your support. I know being here is a-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but I couldn't be here without all of you. ... read more
