Day 3. Was a bugg** covering 83kms split roughly into two halves over 8.25 hrs & a brutal 1156 mts of assent for the day. Yesterday’s bad weather had cleared to a brilliant cloudless blue sky. The morning stage was to The Entrance & started with some nice bike paths but soon changed to a very busy main road with some narrow shoulder that required total concentration not to wobble while ascending hills up to 13%. Terrigal was only half way to The Entrance & I was already spent. The beautiful outlook & morning tea at the surf club revived our spirits. Shelly Beach & Long Jetty were were memorable view stops. The afternoon stage was to Swansea & we seemed to get a second wind with riding mainly on cycle paths. A slight diversion to ... read more

After some scepticism when this idea was first raised 3 of our regular weekly riders have decided that this is a doable adventure. The first objective was to get our bikes & gear down to Sydney with a planned start from Manly to avoid the heavy Sydney traffic. Ian & I flew while John went by train so all bikes needed to be boxed then re-assembled at either Sydney airport or the CBD. Ian & I caught the airport train to Circular Quay & then a ferry to Manly for a next day meet-up. John stayed in town overnight & caught an early morning ferry to join Ian & I at near our overnight Queenscliff accommodation. The Weather was forecast to be ugly with rain & wind. Thought we had dodged a bullet at the start ... read more

It was sad saying farewell to Chris, Natalie and Mikey before they left for school at about 8.15. Our family is so scattered around the world, so these times together have made our holiday really special. We packed our cases, tidyed up and finished writing our diary/blog. Wendy was working from home so was there to wish us farewell when our taxi arrived. We used an Uber taxi to get us to the airport, in good time, for our Quantas flight at 16.50. We are much better at working out how to use the high tec self service units and bag check. We had time for a tasty lunch before boarding out Airbus 380, a huge double decker aircraft. There is a staircase Nancy! We stopped over in Singapore for about an hour and a half. ... read more

After a tasty bearkfast of fruit plus Graeme's special scrambled egg and bacon, we got organised for a trip to Manly. Wendy drove us to nearby Gordon train station, where we caught a smart double decker train into Wynyard Station. We had a short walk througt the city, past Graeme's offie, to Circular Quay to catch the fast ferry to Manly. Once again we had a sunshiny day to view the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. We could see brave people walking over the top of the bridge! Georges Head As it was such a beautiful day in Manly, so many other people were there too. We wandered down to Shelly Beach, which was a little quieter, but all the restaurants were extremely busy. We decided to head home to St Ives to relax by the ... read more

18 - 19th October Family days and relaxing at St Ives We needed to take some time out to relax and get our minds around all we have seen in Sydney and the Blue Mountains, so Friday was spent doing things around the home and catching up on the blog until the family returned from work/ school. Saturday was cricket day for Mikey and Natalie. We missed going to see Mikey play as it was earlier and in a different place from Natalie's mtch. They both did really well for their first cricket games with Natalie taking a catch and bowling well to take a wicket on a catch. Unfortunately she and her friend Jamie were seconded to the other team as they were short. We dined at home, outside by the pool, although too chilly ... read more

We went to Chris, Natalie and Mikey's school this morning leaving the house at 7.10, so the Natalie was in time to try for a place in the Soft Ball team. We heard later that she had been selected. We popped home for a quick breakfast before setting off for the Blue Mountains. It took about 2 hours, through the busy traffic, for Graeme to drive us to Katoomba. We started our tour of the Blue Mountains at Echo Point with magnificent views over the extensive forests, stretching into the far distance. The iconic Three Sisters were lit by the sun. We took the 30 minute scenic walk to Katoomba Cascades and Falls, which included quite a number of steps up and down! But we were rewarded with spectacular views. Graeme kindly walked back to collect ... read more

Hi, my readers….I'm back in Australia again. Archie and I came to Australia to visit our family and celebrate Archie's niece's birthday. We had such a great time with the family. We got our niece a personalised baby blanket from Blankids, who does custom blankets in Australia. She LOVED it and we are so happy for her. The party was great, the food was delicious and we were so glad to be back in Australia. As I mentioned in this blog before that Sydney is one of the cities in Australia I want to move to (and yes, I'm now in the process of url=https://infinitemigration.com.au/services/family-migration/partner-provisional-visa-subclass-309-partner-migrant-visa-subclass-100/applying for a partner visa). I just spent a week there (how cool?). It was a trip full of fun, good food and great ... read more

Suitcases packed up again ready to move tonight to St Ives to spend our final days in Australia with Greame and Wendy, Chris, Natalie and Mikey Pearse's home. Karin took us on a tour of the Northern suburbs and we saw the houses where Karen's daughter Denise lived and lives. Then a pretty drive up the coast passing beautiful beaches including Warriewood and Newport. We arrived at Avalon, where we had lunch with Alison Jones, on the veranda of her lovely home. Alison and Elaine knew each other from days in Sinoia (1968) and later when AlIson and Nick had their twin boys. Good to catch up and remember. Karen kindly drove us to to St Ives, where we met Graham, Chris and Natalie. Wendy and Mikey returend later. Our great nephew and nieces have grow ... read more

We awoke to another sunny day and after breakfast set off on our second Sydney touristy day with our super guide Karen. We walked to the local bus stop in Lane Cove and caught the bus to McMahons Point and then the ferry Bungaree, under the Harbour Bridge to Circular Quay and then another ferry the 'Golden Grove' from there to Mosman Bay. We had a coffee stop waiting for the next bus up to Georges Head (part of Sydney Harbour National Park) up a long winding road. The view there is spectacular. This is a quote from John White, Surgeon-General, First Fleet on 26 January 1788. "Port Jackson I believe to be without exception, the finest and most extensive harbour in the universe, and at the same tIme the most secure". There remain numerous canons, ... read more

Monday 14 October - Darling Harbour We slept really well in our lovely upstairs room. We woke about 8.00 and after breakfast we set off in the car. Karin showed us where her daughter Coleen first lived. We drove through Hunters Hill, which is beautiful and where the enormous houses cost a approx $7 to 8 million! We found a lovely spot to photograph the iconic Harbour Bridge across the water. We found all day free parking and walked a short distance to catch a bus to the Queen Victoria Building in the city. The stunningly restored building was a great place to visit, with carefully restored tiled floors, stain glass windows and iron railings, with 3 floors of designer shops. Karin treated us to coffee on the top floor. There are several huge clocks from ... read more
