Amai zo vriendelijk! En we waren ... read more

I arrived here a bit scared being on my own but within a couple of hours I met a really nice American girl and we decided to do the free walking tour around the city. The tour was great, the guide took us down to the harbour, showed us various museums, old buildings (not very old considering this is Australia!), Hyde Park (named after our park!), and a bit of the Botanical gardens. I am surprised I stayed awake considering the jetlag but I just felt so excited to be in this amazing city! That evening I went out to a bar by Bondi Beach where funnily enough I ended up partying with a load of Reading guys and a couple of girls from Sweden, we played drinking games, and just chilled in the smoking area ... read more

This was one of THE days on our trip. Today was the day we were going to see The Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Our backstage tour of the opera house began at 7 am, before it got busy with all the staff. This is a complete must. We got to go in all of the theaters, The Green Room, stand on the Concert Hall stage , and we even got to stand on the conductor’s platform while holding the baton. We were also let in on some industry secrets. Sitting in the seats of where the orchestra sits and having their view was unreal. Our tour ended with a custom made breakfast that hit the spot right on the mark. Australian summers hold the opera and winter is the season of the ... read more

We have had two days in Watsons Bay and it feels like a week! That's not to say it is a bad thing. We have had a fantastic time, just very full on with the jet lag kicking as well as the excitement surrounding the wedding. Lunch time naps can make one day feel like two. Sarah was a beautiful bride and the wedding was fantastic. The rain came down in true style but didn't dampen spirits or spoil the day in any way. Dunbar House was a gorgeous reception venue and St Peters church was a perfect place for their wedding. The views would have been even more stunning had it not been raining so much! Again the kids did us proud. We have asked such a lot of them and they still managed to ... read more

We got a taxi to the bus station and then flew from Melbourne Avalon airport early in the morning to Sydney, where we caught a bus then a train to Katoomba in the blue mounains! We managed to sleepin bits most of the way and then got brekkie in an old diner! It was a lovely day :) We walked around the little shops in the village and then headed up to see the three (once seven) sisters. We caught the skyrail across the canyon to get a great view! I think this was my favourite part of the trip! We cooled down in katoomba falls and then walked back up to the station (not before stopping at the chocolate factory first- and it was matthews idea!!!) We met Gus (matty's friend who kindly let us ... read more

Sydney is exactly what it's cracked up to be, nothing more, nothing less. Sydney is a world-class city, and probably the nicest one in the southern hemisphere. The city has a somewhat European feel to it, but with the accessibility and size of an American city...........although it is clearly Australian, don't get me wrong. I spent over a month in the area, and I am pretty sure that I did not scratch the surface of what it is really like to live here, but I did my best. I enjoyed taking in as much as I could, and was able to catch up with a bunch of friends that I had met between the Caribbean, Europe and the States. There are many iconic landmarks in the area, and, ironically, 'iconic' is one of the most overused ... read more

First day in Sydney with Jo (Will’s sister) and we made the most of her jetlag causing her to wakeup at 5am by going for an early breakfast in Darling Harbour. Unfortunately she got to experience a bit of Sydney rain first thing, although as the storm passed over we tucked into our eggs Benedict. Once the rain passed by we made our way to the Ferry at Pyrmont bay and caught the ferry across to Circular Quay where we changed to the ferry for Taronga Zoo. It was a short walk up a hill to the zoo entrance with views back across the Harbour to the opera house, bridge and CBD. The sun came out not long after we arrived at the zoo, and we made our way around the animal enclosures. Our top 10 ... read more

The following blogs are about a 4 week trip we did earlier this year going from Sydney to Cairns... It involved going by Grey Hound bus from Sydney to Brisbane, with the option of hiring a car once we arrived in Brisbane, as there are only the 2 of us traveling, it is far cheaper to go by the bus rather than hiring cars as we have done on previous trips... besides the Grey Hound experience is like no other, you will have to experience it to know what it is all about... You can't say you have tough it out and backpacked in Australia until you have tried the Grey Hound bus. I have visited Sydney on few past occasions, the beach there are particularly good, such as Manly and Bondi... especially for surfing, but ... read more

Happy 2012 everyone! It seems a long time since my last entry! Our flight from Bali to Sydney went without a hitch and by lunch time we were settled into the hostel we spent an entire day picking back in July (which seems a very long time ago now!) We ended up being put in a family room which meant we had a TV, 3 extra beds (useful for airing clothes!) and a huge fridge which it took us no time to fill with food from the supermarket. Sydney is exactly what we hoped for, and we spent the first few days wandering the streets without being hassled by taxis, eating in the park without being accosted by hawkers and eating food without worrying about whether it had been washed in tap water! Then Emma decided ... read more

Naz: After an incredible and very eventful month in Asia, we flew into Sydney, Australia to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. When we arrived Tom (sporting his 4 quid Newcastle shirt that he got from Thailand) and Sam were there to greet us at the airport. We then went over to spend one night in a hostel in Coogee Beach before checking into a private room in the centre of Sydney over Christmas. On our first night, we went to visit Tammy, a girl we knew from home, in her apartment and also met up with Kirsty, who we also knew from home, and her boyfriend Will. After a few bevvys in the hoose, me and Ric went out on the town with Kirsty, Will, Tammy and a few other people we met. It was ... read more
