After Cairns, it was back to Sydney. The flight from Cairns left us with half a day, so we decided to explore The Rocks. The Rocks is the area of Sydney that was originally inhabited by aboriginals then by convicts, and for many decades it was a favorite haunt of criminals, prostitutes, and sailors. It is named for the sandstone on which the buildings are built. More recently, it has undergone partial gentrification, and has tourist shops and eating places, as well as two pubs that each claim to be the oldest in Sydney. We chose the Lord Nelson for a wee pint, and then for dinner upstairs, which was surprisingly significantly more upscale. The Sydney Observatory is located here, but we did not have time to visit. This area was once being primed to be ... read more

Final Prep Hello readers, My bike has started its journey of approximately 9,300 miles to Sydney, Australia. Did you know that if you want to ship your vehicle to a foreign country you need to get a "carnet" to ship it? This document is akin to a passport for your vehicle and requires a boat load of paperwork (in fact much more work than a visa would be for a person). Crane Worldwide is assisting me with both the carnet and getting my bike shipped to Australia and back. Crane knows a thing or two about shipping motorcycles around the world, they were responsible for shipping Harley Davidson's bikes all over the world for their last big anniversary celebration. The bike will go by boat to Australia instead of by plane. If you ship by plane ... read more

We took our time getting up and moving today. After mulling over 3 different plans, we opted to going to Wooloomooloo wharf to have breakfast. We sat outside in the sun with blankets on our laps and a heater above our heads. The view was stunning. Walked along the Quay under the bridge next to Sydney Bay to The Rocks Market … under tents where artists and chefs sell their wares … where we proceeded to shop like crazy … buying jewelry, a jacket, Allie’s wedding present & greeting card, gifts and a blouse for Allie’s wedding. They sell kangaroo balls key chains and wine openers. All I could think was: “poor little guys.” Wendy bought a really cool short jacket that makes her look like a rock star. She rocked that jacket the rest of ... read more

Showing up into Sydney I realized that I've become a seasoned vet at this travel thing. I rolled into the city of 5 million with no direction or plan. Before I left home if I did not have a plan for the smallest things like getting to the hockey game on time I would be border line aneurysm. Nowadays I just show up in major foreign metropolis centres with no worries. Grabbing a map at the airport information kiosk I hopped onto the train that links the city centre (Denver should really get on the ball on the transport to and from DIA) to the airport. Fifteen minutes later I was downtown. After about a five minute march down the main thoroughfare I had found a place to stay for the never bargain price of $AUD ... read more

Well this is a very unexpected little jaunt we are going on!!! While having breaky with a friend on Friday my beautiful husband booked this last minute cruise, so here we are three days later in Sydney getting ready to head out of the harbor at 4.00p.m. en route to New Caledonia (we haven't been before, so I guess why not??!!). Very cheap cruise can't believe the price but anyway we will see how it all goes, P&O Pacific Jewell - so much for that diet we were embarking on! Luke Mangan's restaurant Salt has a great name so cant wait to book into that. Sailed out of Sydney Harbour around 4.00p.m., such a spectacular harbour, sailing under the harbour bridge is so cool! Already met some really nice people, had the sail away party on ... read more

Next day we were planning to be out late in the city so that we could see it at night. To give us the strength to do this we decided to have a lazy morning and then go into the city around lunchtime for the matinee we had booked at the opera house. We had a swim in the cool but pleasant pool on site and then I made a large brunch of pancakes and bacon. Our first activity in the city was something we'd both been looking forward to for a long time... a concert at Sydney a Opera House. When we got there we discovered an amazing interior of acoustically designed wooden paneling. Our tickets were right at the back of the auditorium which was almost at capacity. Despite this the sound quality was ... read more

The Sydney Opera House and the famous bridge were amazing to see the first time. All my life I'd seen photos but now I was actually looking at these sights and I had to pinch myself, It was hard to believe I was actually there!!- Sydney is a lovely, quite modern city, situated on the harbor. For me, the Opera House was what impressed me the most, it's totally magnificent! I couldn't take my eyes off of it! Over the next few days while there, I did have the opportunity to take a tour and hear 'Schumann's 3 & 4 Symphony' in the main theatre. An experience I shall never forget. I also got to walk across the famous bridge crossing Sydney Harbour and walk miles around the city, night and day. Took a ferry around ... read more

Hi everyone, well hold onto you're hats everyone but I climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge !!! Oh yes !! was I scared, Oh yes !! You have no idea !! Stu refused to do it, said he would rather eat a crocodile !! So all week I psyched myself up to do this, decided not to pick the longest hike as this is our last day in Sydney and didn't have all day to do this, plus it is very hard going. So went down to the bridge climb for my time slot, the bambi legs were out !!, infact I felt them locking, what was I thinking !! So Stu waves me off, there were 5 of us, luckily one lady was as scared as me, she was doing it because her young son wanted ... read more

Had an great day today - we walked from Coogee to Bondi Beach - took nearly two hours but it was well worth it. We saw some amazing waves. Loved the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks. Then this evening we climbed to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge. An amazing sight from the top. Tomorrow we are off to the Blue Mountains for the next stage of our venture.... read more

Decided to go to Birkenhead Point (BP) and then up to Parramatta. That was the plan, but it came unstuck. We arrived at Circular Quay after train ride from Kirrawee and had about half hour wait at the Quay to take ferry to Drummoyne (BP). While there we start chatting with a lady who was also going to Drummoyne, which is where she lived. She had just "popped" into town to do some shopping and was heading home (10.30 ish). We chatted about BP as our stop and she said it was about a ten minute walk from the ferry stop. This is where she was wrong, it was closer to 25 minutes and a fair section was uphill. Consequently we hurriedly looked around, picked up some Gazman gear and were about to walk back to ... read more
