We got out the door at 8 and went to go pick up Judy's father, he was going to come with us to Narooma to stay with Judy's brother Steve, who had lived in Smithers with my grandparents for a year. When I was here in 1990, I stayed with their father for a few days. We took a route along the ocean that went through Stanwell Park . In this park, they have built a cliff bridge so that they could avoid keep a road on the cliff side, which was prone to slides and very big boulders. It was quite a site to see, we stopped at a view point called Bald Hill for a good look before we started the drive. The point is also a place for handgliders, but no one was ... read more

We continued along the coast crossing back into New South Wales ending up at a very sleepy little town called Narooma - especially as it was a Sunday. The campsite was right beside the beach where waves crashed in on a very grey day. There was very little sign of life other than the local bar.... read more

Finally I got a lie in, well until 9am at least. Despite having my own luxury room (compared with the last few months) the sun was shining through the curtains and I felt guilty about staying in bed any longer. Yet again the weathermen have the forecast totally wrong. It was meant to be cloudy with showers today; it turned out the whole day was gorgeous. Leaving the car behind I got on a bike from the hostel and headed out to explore the local village. Heavily reliant on fishing there was a definite whiff in the air. After exploring the harbour and inlet via far to many hills I went out to some of the coves and beaches. I stood under Australia Rock, which is a large pinnacle of rock on the beach that has ... read more

Again I was up really early, mainly because the car needed to be moved before Mr traffic warden came round. Unfortunately I forgot that it was Saturday and there would be no traffic wardens. Never mind. Canberra on a Saturday is like a ghost town. I was staying right in the city center and you had to wait to see a car on the road. Needless to say getting out of the city was very easy. I headed off towards to coast and Batemans Bay. It took just under 2 hours and although it was an easy drive I was a little apprehensive about what was to come. Finding accommodation and things to do in Cities like Sydney and Canberra is easy but I was now heading into the unknown and in some places very sparsely ... read more

My time here was the best. It is such a beautiful town. The owner of the hostel took me on a tour round the town and down to the water to show me these massive sting rays. They were huge! A guy was cutting up some fish and throwing the leftovers into the water where the sting ray would gulp it up through his belly whole! On my walk around Narooma I came across what I thought were 'heaps' of stones but in fact they were crabs. Absolutely hundreds of them. I crouched down to have a closer look and take some photos and I noticed that they were appearing from underneath them mud. The sound of their movement was so loud, it was strange. Sabine and I also went on a bike ride (oh how ... read more

I am restless. It's summer vacation here and I mulled over the idea of spending all of 2 months in Australia. My nephew, the one who left in 1999 to migrate to Australia, just bought a house with his sister. Between him and his sister, they have lined up a number of odd jobs and repair work needing to be done on this 10 year old house. That meant a number of appointments with the carpenter, mason, plumber, etc. So, I towed my 6yr old grandniece and my sister to spend the next 2 months with me somewhere in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Suburbs meant somewhere in MacQuarie Fields, some 45 minutes by train from the city center. From the house, it meant a 7 minute walk to the corner, a 10 minute bus ride ... read more
