Great sleep last night. Yet another nice sunny day. Got away at a reasonable time as didn't want to be too late and start running into the day visitors. It was supprisingly quiet out on the road, a pleasant supprise. made the best of it for some photo shoots along the way, it was good being able to just stop where I wanted (within reason) and not have to worry about other traffic. One thing that was quite noticable about galcier national Park was the absence of much in the way of glaciers. There are a few small ones but nothing to get excited about. The NPS expect that the remaining ones won't last many more years either. Maybe they should rename it "formed by glaciers national Park"? Either way it is still a beautiful place ... read more

Ok so we´re a few days in now and having a wicked time. On Wednesday night we went to see Atletico Madrid play Cruz Azul after a crazy hour taxi ride with no seat belts! We managed to miss the first 10 mins of the game which was when the only goal was scored but the carnival atmosphere throughout the game was amazing! On Thursday we saw the city centre sights - the Cathedral, Palace and Temple ruins. we accidently ended up in a mucho posh restaurant for lunch looking pretty out of place with our flip flops! we then came back to our hostel for a little siesta and then were ready to get on it!! this involved alot of mexican beer and a crazy barman standing on the bar pouring tequilla down our necks ... read more

Howdy! After a Jazz rehearsal this morning, the full marching band began to arrive. What an exciting band we have! Everyone is fabulous! I have 13 trumpets in my section, which for a band of 100, is pretty phenomenal. Mr. Bernhardt (he's our director) has made me the Section Leader for this trip. Finally, after 6 years, I get to be section leader! I think they all like me okay;) Okay, so I've said that I didn't like the music at all, but I have changed my mind after hearing it with the full band, it's pretty nifty! I do have a small solo at the end of "America the Beautiful" where I chime in with the opening of the Star Spangled Banner. The big trumpet solo got cut along with the sax solo due to ... read more

Cruising slowly through a maze of icebergs dotting the dark emerald, frigid, but flat, calm water. Sheer cliffs raise straight up out of the water, 3000 ft , on both our port and starboard, to the touch the grey clouds above. Waterfalls plummet down the granite faces into the water below. When we returned to Seattle after our trip to BC with the owners of the yacht, we each had four days off. I took off to see Candace in Tampa on an overnight flight . Tampa was experiencing typical south Florida summer weather, with on and off thunder showers, so we didn’t make it to the beach until my last day. Even then, the clouds rolled in at warp speed and sent us running for the car after just a couple hours of sunshine. It ... read more

Another bus ride on the way to what I think should definitely be one of the seven wonders of the world! We left for Teotihuacan by way Mexico Distrito Federal (A fancy way of saying Mexico City) pretty early in the morning, our heads still spinning from silver fever at Taxco. The two-hour trip took no time at all, excepting of course, for those travelers not yet used to the gentle swaying of the bus ride. Again, several people decided a safe course of action would be to have a "catch-all bag" for any wayward breakfast meals refusing to stay centrally located in the safety of one's stomach. Our tour guide from the school made sure we drove past some of the more popular travel destinations Mexico D.F. had to offer, including the Plaza Mayor, where ... read more

We got to the ferry at 10 in order to insure a spot on the 12:45 ferry to Victoria. We walked around the town and had lunch at Rick's American Cafe. The ferry ride was about an hour and half and was very scenic. Arriving at Victoria we found our hotel, The Delta, another Priceline find and very, very nice. We walked over the draw bridge to the main part of the city. First stop was the Parliament House. Victoria is the capitol of British Columbia. It was very impressive, especially from the outside. Since the Empress was close by we decided to have High Tea at the Empress. At $60 it seemed a little high for tea but it was well worth it. We had tea sandwiches, scones, and sweets in a beautiful setting. Since ... read more

I have a host family! i got the info a few days ago, and i had a brief conversation with them on the phone (the e-mail wasn't working) and so i know a little bit... I will have four sisters and one brother (ages 24, 23, 19, 19 and 17) and my sister Catalina (17) just came back from exchange in the US, so she speaks english. I found my sisters on facebook, and have communicated a little with Catalina and has informed me that I will be living with three dogs (what a relief!!! i was so worried about how i would survive if they didn't have pets! although my mom keeps telling me that they're going to be three big mean guard dogs...). According to YFU my host mom, Antonia is a business woman ... read more

Slummin’ it .. or trying to! We all came to gradually this morning - Annabel first, then Mark and eventually the kids by around 8:30, so we all felt quite rested. Just as well... Today was nominated washing day, so we hoisted our laundry out of the suitcases. Sorted it into equal sized mountains and staggered out to find the Laundromat a block away. It was all a very civilised affair, which the kids loved because it meant they had some dedicated Nintendo time whilst the adults did the requisite chores. The industrial grade washing machines and tumblers had done the job within an hour, and the only major casualty was Mark’s previously favourite T-shirt, now reduced to a Liliiputian size. All’s fair in love and laundry, I guess. We dumped the laundry back at the ... read more

The forty miles of I-65 we drove from the Ohio River, through Louisville, KY, south was bone-jarring rough. We were happy to turn off onto the Western KY Parkway. At Eddyville, KY, we drove south on Hwy 641, seeing both the Barkley Dam on the Cumberland River and the Kentucky Dam on the Tennessee River. We had to backtrack near Benton, KY, due to an accident. We arrived home around 3:30, where it was 94 outside and 86 inside. It's been a great trip, we've been to beautiful places, to 6 states we'd never seen and met lots of nice people along the way. I'd have to say our favorite state was Montana and Glacier NP our very favorite spot. We are glad to be home, but are starting to think about the next trip. ... read more

What a haul. We left at 6:30 AM Mountain time and pulled in at 10 PM Central Time. Stopped in Livingston, Montana... a rest stop in Montana and for dinner in Glendive, Montana. The theme... we were in Montana the whole day! Towards the end of the trip (the last 100 miles or so) we got to follow a storm and then go through it. Hopefully it washed off all of the bugs! We also saw a rainbow from end to end.... read more
