Today we had breakfast in our apartment. Cooking was a little challenging as we had no range. We did have a microwave and an air fryer that would allow you to bake. I was going to make sausage gravy and biscuits, but there were no microwavable bowls to make the gravy. So I fried the sausage, baked the biscuits and we had biscuits and sausage sandwiches. They were quite good Following breakfast we headed into Freeport to the big L.L. Bean store. This was the reason we came here because both Ed and Terry didn’t have enough time in the store when we were here last year. This store has everything! Of course everything is so expensive. It’s hard to justify a purchase. we will have to wait till the Christmas sales are on! Just down ... read more

We left our base in Ohio to head to Kalamazoo for nephew Addison's marriage to his love Kari. It was a lovely ceremony and reception. Fun time with some of our family before we head west. Kalamazoo, which means "boiling water" or "reflecting" is the original home of the Upjohn Co., Stryker Corp, Checker Motors Corp. (cab maker), and Gibson Guitars. We camped at Markin Glen County Park. We enjoyed a walk around the lake and the sound of trains on a nearby track.... read more

DAY 12: This morning we only had 10 mins before we were onto a gnarly, rocky track. We were on this track for around 20 miles before turning onto a faster gravel road which a grader was fixing worse. The grader had churned the road up into a slippery mess. Slipping and sliding on this track we encountered Hunters in 4wds who we making exceptionally slow progress. We gradually managed to work our way past them. This was probably one of the most slippery gravel tracks I have ridden on this trip without adopting a horizontal position. Later in the day we encountered closed roads with a major detour albeit on good roads. We worked our way around the road closures and stopped in Tellicoe Plains Tennessee for lunch. We checked around for accommodation and found ... read more

Today was a travel day from the Fairfield Inn at Amesbury to the Kindle house BNB at Freeport. We were in no particular hurry since this was the worst day for hurricane Lee, and travel was to be challenging. Actually, we were supposed to be driving during the worst wind and rain of the storm. We had a leisurely breakfast at the hotel before packing the car in a light rain. Before we were finished the rain let up and we didn’t see rain the rest of the day. We did, however, see and feel the effects of wind. It was only a 2 Hour Drive to our next place to stay so we had planned on doing some sightseeing and shopping. Years ago I was at Kittery, Maine and I wanted to stop there again. ... read more

An der Vielzahl an Geisiren ... read more

"I only drink champagne on two occasions, when I am in love, and when I am not" -Coco Chanel (how true!) Older article from Winespeed about champagne and sparkling wines. To celebrate today’s 234th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille (a turning point in the French Revolution), consider popping open one of the most beautiful Champagne bottles ever designed—Perrier-Jouët’s Art Nouveau-style “flower bottle.” Decorated with enameled anemones, the bottle was first designed in 1902 by glassmaker Emile Gallé as an homage to La Belle ... read more
