Shelley and I woke up in the morning to some cooler weather and the car was covered with snow and a bit of ice. Being good Canadians, we had our trusty snow brush to get rid of everything. The snow storm we were able to avoid by being further south. We left the hotel and were on the road early after a ‘so-so’ breakfast. I had scrambled ‘eggs’ with hot sauce and four sausage patties….but the coffee was good! It was an uneventful drive really; which was good. We made a few stops here and there to let Maggie out where there was grass to pee on. She was happy with that. We ended up in Pooler, Georgia. We didn’t want to stay right in Savanah and this was close enough. The bonus for us was ... read more

We set out this morning from Ottawa around 11 am after Shelley did some morning work. I had finished my shift at Tunney’s Pasture at 2 am and woke up around 9 am or so. We were mostly packed and ready to go with just a couple of things to do before we left. We hit the road and made our way south. The weather was cold and we had received a fresh dumping of snow the previous evening. The roads were mostly bare though, which was nice. It was a very pleasant drive down towards the border. When we arrived, Shelley popped into the Duty Free to use the facilities. From experience, she knew that once we went around the bend, there was going to be a long line up of cars waiting to cross ... read more

Las Vegas authorities estimate that around 450,000 people will visit the city for the big event, although most of them, obviously, won’t be able to enter the stadium. The game will take place at Allegiant Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility and home of the Las Vegas Raiders, with a capacity for 65,000 fans for a regular game. For this matchup, however, it’s estimated that there will be around 72,000 people in attendance. That may sound like a lot, but this stadium actually has the fifth-smallest capacity of all the venues in the league, which has only contributed to ticket prices going up for this edition. According to StubHub’s data, 26% of ticket buyers are from California, meaning Niners fans could have home-field advantage. Nevada and Kansas/Missouri are next with eight and seven percent, respectively. This ... read more

What to do outdoors when you are in Vegas?? This one takes some commitment, but a tour of Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend is not only breathtaking but almost a spiritual experience when you consider how extraordinary nature is in forming such a wonderful design. Tours can begin in Vegas, where participants are picked up for a long drive across the desert terrain to Antelope Canyon, where they are greeted by gorgeous rock formations. A hike to Horseshoe Bend, a curved waterway that hugs the canyon like its namesake shape, will help prepare travelers for the five-hour drive back to Vegas - yes, you'll be spending 10 hours of travel time for this one. While that sounds like a trip within a trip, Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend are definitely worth it for travelers who want ... read more

From Travelzoo: Las Vegas will always have a few tricks up its sleeve — after all, every blockbuster magician on earth takes up residence there or passes through. Still, you’ve got a pretty solid idea of what the city’s got in store for visitors. The rest of the state, though? Not so much. Odds are, if you’ve never been to Nevada (or you’ve only ever been to Vegas), everything else is a bit of a mystery. And actually, that’s not a bad take. Mystery defines a lot of the state’s top travel experiences in the best possible ways, whether you’re into ghost towns, aliens or just the mysteries of the universe (the local astro-tourism scene is, well, stellar). Then again, the wild beauty of the terrestrial landscapes is enough to make you wonder at the power ... read more

The Super Bowl has been played 58 times, so plenty of venues have had a chance to host the NFL’s biggest game. NFL owners decide where future Super Bowls will be played at, and they have always been played in a metropolitan area where an NFL team is located. In the early days of the league, that meant that Super Bowl venues were sometimes located in a stadium that an NFL team didn’t play at, but now, Super Bowls are always in the stadium of an NFL team. To host a Super Bowl, a venue/city must meet a number of requirements. Among those include a minimum of 70,00 seats in the stadium, an average game day temperature of at least 50 °F (unless the stadium has a roof), room for the NFL Experience and Gameday Experience, ... read more

Newsweek says: The most affordable tickets in the nosebleeds are tagged at $6,609 on SeatGeek, but that's just the entry point; there are tickets selling for as high as $62,999. As of today (Jan 29) seats have reached $8,000+. This is true for all ticket vendors: Ticketmaster, Stub Hub, etc. My friend was comped a lower level seat ticket from a Strip casino, with a face value of $10,000! Ticketmaster's lowest price as of January is $8,000. One strategy that I have used successfully for the World Series is to wait until kickoff/first pitch. Carrying around that much cash is rather problematic, so I will use Venmo or Zelle. Flights aren't cheap, either. A cross-section of round-trip flights from major cities like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Houston averages $712.25. My round trip airfare is ... read more

I wrote this a few years ago, when I went to Super Bowl 47. It is the ultimate football game. And now, The Niners are in Super Bowl LVIII (58)!!! January, 2014 Super Bowl 47 will start this afternoon. I will be there to watch the Forty Niners. I became a fan in the Fifties, when two players from my hometown, offensive tackle Monte Clark, and future all pro defensive back, Jimmy Johnson were drafted by the Forty Niners. Back then, it would have been difficult to envision the concept of the Super Bowl, or the greatness ahead for these two players. My Dad would have truly enjoyed being here today. He introduced me to sports. He took me to my first college and professional football games. We started out on a local level, our high ... read more

We arrived in Quartzsite, AZ on November 1, planning to attend a rally that began on the 16th. It was quite nice to get there when we did because the weather had just begun to turn cold – it froze in Flagstaff and became unseasonably cold in Phoenix almost as soon as we arrived in Quartzsite. However, our plans were not to be, because Natalie woke up on the 14th with her right arm feeling numb and she could barely speak, but she did tell me to call 911, I wasn’t even sure there was a 911 in Quartzsite, but they arrived very soon after my call, decided it was probably a stroke, and took her by ambulance to the nearest hospital at Parker, AZ, a 35-minute drive north. Before the ambulance drove away with Natalie, ... read more
