We awoke in the morning, and gave our mothers a wake-up call. Our bags had been taken off during the night. When we put ours out near the midnight deadline, our hallway was already empty. The bags had already started to litter the halls as early as the previous afternoon. We made our way up to the Lido, and I’m happy to say, none of us needed to have the shower curtain draped around us, because we weren’t the ones on every cruise that pack of ALL of their clothes. I decided to try an omelet, while the girls settled for French toast. The Lido was a zoo, and we settled for a table in one of the middle end sections, between the port and starboard sections. We had gotten our statements, and everything seemed to ... read more

Six weeks ago I set off with Beeny and I have travelled 3000 landmiles here in the USA and been in 6 States - so we have done pretty well. Rainy days in Oregon followed me as I drove north into Washington to Seattle and it has taken a few more days to brighten up. Nevertheless my hosts Bob and Marti are showing me around their beautiful city and we seem to find pockets of blue sky and haven't been rained on too much. Bob volunteers as a concierge at the info booth at the famous Pike Market so he is an excellent city guide. WE have spent time driving around some lovely neighbourhoods some with quaint wooden houses with verandahs and porches and others with quite grand mansions and super modern architecture. Seattle being on ... read more

Cindy spent from 10:30 to 5:30 at Madigan Medical Center trying to get her RA infusion. So much for making an appointment a month in advance. Typical military run around. While Cindy "played" at Madigan, Joe got the tires rotated and did laundry. A very productive day for both of us.... read more

Our pre-paid shuttle showed up early, and besides the Oosterdam, others were headed for The Golden Princess and Norwegian cruises in Alaska. Our driver answered the question of how long the shuttle would take by saying, “On Sundays, with normal traffic, and three cruise ships in port, about eleven hours, but for you I’ll try to break twenty-five minutes.” His estimate wasn’t far off, but mostly because of the heavy port congestion where every few feet another traffic officer was trying to control the chaos, and every one of them seem to have it in for our driver. One cop even ordered our van to stop, while he directed the van behind us to go around and on ahead, while we waited for the cross traffic another two minutes. We finally did get to the drop-off ... read more

Well we all arrived in Seattle but it was a long day. Will have to do this entry in two parts so will start with Sharon. I had finished packing late Friday night. I had to take my bigger carryon since it would have to hold my laptop (or my purse) to keep me down to 2 items since John wasn’t with me. It’s really getting bad how much electronic stuff I take with me now. The carryon has my laptop, Kindle, DSI, iPod, cellphone, camera, 2 pairs of binoculars (John forgot to take one), noise reducing headphones, and all the batteries/chargers needed to support them. I should have included the car charger for my cellphone. It also had a packing cube with the change of clothes I’d need for Sunday morning. It was way too ... read more

We really hadn't planned to take another cruise this year since we we took the South America/Antarctica trip that lasted almost all of January. But late last year John's mother Beth mentioned she'd like to take a cruise. John gave a choice of New England in the fall or Alaska and since she's never been to Alaska the planning started. Of course we decided that my mother should come too. Because I'm low on vacation days we decided on Memorial Day week and there was a Sat to Sat cruise on the Westerdam that included Glacier Bay. Well I let John book the cruise so we ended up on the Oosterdam which is a Sun to Sun cruise and doesn't include either Glacier Bay or Hubbard Glacier. Oh well it's about spending time with our mothers ... read more

Geo: 47.6001, -122.328I left the hotel around 8:15 and made it to Leidseplein to catch the airport bus just as it was ready to leave. The driver saw me and kindly waited while I made a dash for it. For €4, I made it to Schiphol in about 30 minutes.Dropped my bag and wandered around the duty-free shops for a bit, then hiked to my gate. There's a sign before heading to the gates that says, "Passengers Only. Kiss and Goodbye." Schiphol doesn't have a centralized security area. Instead, there are security checks before the various gates, which is nice because you don't have to wait as long in line.My flight to London took off 40 minutes late but the captain made up some time in the air. Judy and Steve from the tour were also ... read more

So Its Been a while since are last blog we spent a few days in a hostel in Vancouver right on the beach just chilling , Then we decided to head down to Seattle It's about a 3 hour coach trip across the boarder, as the coach headed towards the boarder the driver informed us that we could not bring any food across the boarder which resulted in us trying to down some bananas and packets of crisps as quickly as we could. Once we got to the boarder we had to get off the bus and go through passport control, as we where watching a guy from our coach infront of us when up to the desk and handed over his passport with that alarms went off and police came from every direction, he was ... read more

Seattle, USA Tuesday, May 7th, 2013 T and I walked the 5 blocks to the Clipper pulling our big bags and left them in storage at the terminal, ready for the 11 o’clock sailing. We then walked along the waterfront to Fisherman’s Wharves for a second fish breakfast at Barb’s, not! Opens at 11, we leave at that time. We had coffee somewhere else and walked back to the Clipper by the street (shorter). The Clipper ride was 2 ½ hrs long and wonderful, flat and beautiful scenery. Lynne picked us up at the dock and drove us around, me to take pictures of wisteria and all of us for the views up and down hills and around sharp corners, all lovely. Then dinner at Lynne’s, Salvadorian food in honour of our Central American trip, with ... read more
