Sorry it has taken me 2 days to get this in but after all we did on Wednesday, I was way too tired to blog that night! We got up and had a fantastic breakfast at the B&B - stuffed French toast...incredible! After breakfast at 9:30 we headed east through the national park to go to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. My dog, Dez, and I love to watch Dogtown (it is filmed at Best Friends) on the National Geographic channel and when I realised I was going to be in the area I just had to go and see the place. This morning we left Buhl, ID around 8:30 am and just hit the interstates (I84 and I15) to get to Zion Canyon National Park. We drove through Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo and many other places as we made our way south through Utah. It took us about 9.5 hours in tital and that included a stop in Ogden at a Costco to pick up a few supplies for meals so we don't have to stop and eat lunch at restaurants. I only took a few pictures and those are of the approach into Zion Canyon. Tonight and tomorrow night we [View Full Entry]

Today we went hiking in Zion National Park. It was great, but I'll let the pictures show you that. It was also pretty hot, but we went hiking early enough. We actually took about 5 short hikes (actually 2 short hikes, and 3 that are so short it's insulting to call them hikes). Tomorrow we're going to Bryce. Apparently, Bryce is on fire (or at least a part of the woods there), so we are not sure exactly what we can do there, but we are hoping for the best. [View Full Entry]

We started our trip today with a 7 hour drive from LA to Hurricane, Utah (just half an hour from Zion National Park). The drive was actually pretty good. We went from California to Nevada to Arizona to Utah, passing through the Mojave Desert. One note about the weather: it's hot, damn hot!!!! At some points along the way it was 46 degrees outside, and even at evening it's over 40. This weather is expected to last, so tomorrow at Zion will be limited to short hikes only. Expect pictures soon!!! [View Full Entry]

Zion National Park wasn't less beautiful or awe-inspiring than the Grand Canyon. It was as if we were inside the canyon so it was a very different experience and a very different kind of beauty. Instead of looking down and across, we were looking up and around. The entry was $25 plus another $15 because we are a camper and there is a very big tunnel that they'd close off to traffic to let us drive through. This soured our entry at first, but after experiencing the tunnel, all to ourselves, it was almost worth the total $40. The tunnel and [View Full Entry]

Found a great BLM campsite right outside the park entry. NO RVS allowed - awesome!! Running water, privacy and a great view of zion. Angels Landing is the absolute highlight. Walk, err hike up that hill and you can experience something very unique. We carved our initials in the pavement, shshshsh. Awesome hike, awesome camping. Saw cool rockclimbers going up the big wall on Angels Landing. Must return to hike the Narrows in the fall. Maybe the doggies can stay at Doggie Dude Ranch next time. No dogs allowed in the park - boo. Coffee is still legal in Utah. [View Full Entry]

We got up early and went off to hike The Narrows. While the Narrows is very beautiful and striking, it is also very rocky. The deepest water that we encountered was approx. 3' deep. Caitlin probably did the best out of all of us. I did fall at one point. We hiked approx. 2.5 miles upstream and then came back down. Hope that you enjoy the pictures! -Courtney [View Full Entry]

We left Vegas this morning to head over to Zion. It took about two and a half hours. Not to bad of a drive. We stayed at the Zion Lodge which is located in the park. It really is nice to be able to stay right in the park with the girls. For a side note, there was not a TV nor a pool at the Lodge. I'm not sure who was more dissapointed Mark with no SportsCenter or the girls without a swimming pool. Once we got settled and checked in we decided to start hiking. We hiked the lower, middle [View Full Entry]

Hiking in Zion

Spent the last part of my Utah portion of the trip in Zion National Park. This was a really nice park as well once I figured out what I was doing. I ended up having to drive out of the park to park my car and walk back into the park. As with many of the parks that I have visited so far, Zion has a mandatory shuttle system to get to different parts of the park during the summer season, and all of the parking inside the park was full. Except for the huge red stone walls everywhere, the park [View Full Entry]
