What a break, thank you Carnival and my checkbook! Departed Galveston Port on a Sunday in July, cruised to Jamaica, Montego Bay, then to Cayman Islands, wrapped up in Cozumel at Carnival's private island. Great staff, perfect service and can't wait to do this again. My favorite off shore excursion is to not have a planned excursion. Just catch a random bus or shuttle and explore. The driver in Jamaica was a real treat. More about him later, let's just say he's a valued employee of his company . Hope they do appreciate his personality and customer service. The market on the hill in Montego Bay is quite a hike, but the vendors are super tourist friendly and the hand carved bamboo cup which the local personalized for me on the spot was way better than ... read more

The SARBA show was my first show to compete in. It was nice to get to go to Seguin. It's the city my mom grew up in and the place I was born. On my way home, we happened upon this beautiful old church where they were having a pumpkin patch. I just love fall! We finally get a reprieve from the blistering heat (at least intermittently). I do remember a few Halloweens, as a kid, where my plastic costume mask was glued to my face with sweat. But for the most part, the weather is starting to get nice and blustery. October is my absolutely favorite time of year.... read more

Aunt Joy gave a very humourous lesson on "Housekeeping for Newlywed Brides" at the shower she hosted for me in her home. Now we ALL know the "rules".... read more

So I have decided that a winter holiday that is actually a holiday is in order. I have picked a flight leaving on Dec. 17 to London, England and returning back to the States on Jan. 9. I will spend both Christmas and New Years in Europe and I am completely excited. It going to be am amazing trip (details to follow) but the only catch is that my bank is not letting me book my flight. GRRRRRR. After calling the airline and the bank card hotline I was told my bank no longer with that hotline so no one can help me until tomorrow morning. I'm planning on calling them first thing after A&P at 8 am. I want to get my ticket booked so that my passport has time to get here. I found ... read more

A different kind of art... Steele, the Lone Star Travelin' sporting guy, also likes to do creative painting on his model cars. So on this Lone Star Travelers' adventure in Seguin, we took in the world of painting on real life cars. There are some very nice people who visited with us on this excursion, one of them was Mr. Ronny Odom at Chopped and Diced, 621 N Austin St, Seguin--here's their website http://www.choppedndiced.com/. A visit to their showroom nets you a friendly tourguide in the person of Mr. Odom and a view of various rods, customs, muscle cars, and custom paint and body work areas . They also do collision repair and a/c installation. Just a short drive west on IH 10 gets you a smile from Donna Howell, manager at Affordable Dream Cars Their ... read more

Art Lesson for the Sporting Guy For a guy who likes basketball, swimming, soccer, baseball, four-wheelin', hunting, fishing -- it's difficult to add the fine arts into the schedule. But recently we did just that. Steele visited with local artist and instructor, Elizabeth and members of Seguin Oakwood Art League, Evamaria and Mary. Elizabeth explained the basics of sketching in charcoal, various media techniques, color mixing, care of water color paints and background behind the multi faceted world of art. Evamaria and Mary were happy to let Steele have a look at some of their paintings, (which by my standards are beautiful and a delight to the eyes). It was a nice break from the 102+ plus heat of South Texas. The Oakwood Art League strives to promote art in the community and to support beginning ... read more

Today we toured Texas Lutheran Univ. and then we toured the Texas Agricultural Education and Heritage Center. A fascinating old timer rancher/farmer of many generations gave us the spectacular tour. Then we toured the Seguin Outdoor Learning Center. We ate fabulous burgers at the best burger place in all of Texas. Then we went to the Seguin Wave Pool and to ZDT Amusement Park which was very clean and well run. I played Centipedes in the arcade for the first time in years and I even got top score and got to enter my name! Last of all, right before sunset we swam in the beautiful Lake Placid from the dock of our boathouse and we canoed and savored every second of the warm breeze and spectacular evening. The enjoyed Blue Bell ice cream which ... read more

After we left St. George, Utah, 5/31 we went through Zion National Park which is my favorite park in the world and then stopped in the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. I had not been there in 10 years and it was still beautiful although I cannot believe I slept on those dunes 20 years ago under the stars with no tent---with all the snakes and critters. We ate in Kanab, Utah and crossed the Arizona State Line. It was 83 degrees at 3:06 p.m.. We passed Lone Rock and Lake Powell and all the gorgeous rock formations and Navajo Reservations and then the lightning and rain hit for a little while. We stopped in Cameron, AZ and then went in to the Grand Canyon, meandering through and enjoying the views and lookouts and then went ... read more
