ON THE ROAD AGAIN We are finally leaving Fulton and looking forward to some new scenery. Helli’s back is still tender and we are moving forward with a great deal of caution. With that in mind we have headed up the gulf coast without making reservations anywhere, because we are just not sure how far Helli’s back will hold out. As we leave the Rockport area we quickly leave the oceanfront again. The roads all run inland with short detours back to the waterfront then you have to come back out to a highway to continue north. Something that is very prevalent here is the presence of huge chemical plants on the ocean. “Pelican Brief”? We stopped often to allow Helli’s back to relax and so far so good. The highway finally turned back to the ... read more

Geo: 29.2953, -94.8079Whirlwind Travel maybe should be the name of our lifestyle at present. We had a short time in Central Texas before we took off for Costa Rica and we made the best of this time to run errands and visit with friends and family from Llano to Houston, Smith Point and on the Galveston and back for more!Drove down to Houston to visit with family and friends, then off to Smith Point for quick trip. As usual reminded of the pull of the coast while enjoying the sunset off the deck of Scott and JoAnn's. Picked up a gallon of fresh oysters for family back in Austin since this is one of the "best" places to get fresh oysters. From there drove the Bolivar Peninsula to catch the ferry over to Galveston. Couldn't help but ... read more

I'm here on a beach house with my mother's family, happily isolated on Bolivar Peninsula for a week, celebrating the completion of my years in college, the conclusion of my adolescence, and bracing for the next chapter of life to commence. We are, overall, just celebrating life. In a moment of reflection, here are a few things I've learned over the past few years. Things I want my younger brother to know and a snapshot in my life's timeline that I will one day look back and laugh at my nativity. 1. Seize opportunities, especially when it comes to traveling or trying something new 2. Determine who really matters in your life- family, close friends, coworkers, good bosses. Deepen those relationship because they will last a lifetime 3. Good bosses are hard to come by. My ... read more

Day 1 Included arrival to our hotel as well as a much needed trip to Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Shop. From there we hit the beach. It was cold and windy, which is typical Texas weather, unpredictable! I was hoping for warmer weather, but unfortunately, that did not happen. But the weather did not stop us from hitting the beach. The sand was warm between our toes and watching the ocean was beautiful. For dinner we went to Salsa's Mexican and Seafood Restaurant which was magnificent. The food was delicious and they even had a live mariachi band playing well known hits. After this we hit the room for some well deserved sleep. Day 2 With the water being a little icy, we decided to swim at the hotel for a while until the water ... read more

My wife and I were on the Carnival Triumph trip just prior to the next one or so-called "voyage of hell." We were sent an email before the trip stating that the ship was having problems and would not be going to Cozumel. We were also offered a full refund. We opted to go and were given onboard credits of $65 each. It's probable that the people on board this so-called "voyage of hell" were given the same option. We arrived in Progreso around noon and left around 8:00pm on the following day. The ship arrived back in Galveston an hour or so late. At that time, it was stated over the intercom that the vessel was having problems with the propulsion equipment. The captain would come over the intercom and make a speech in heavily ... read more

So basically this day consisted of doing...nothing. Absolutly nothing. Lyle went and worked out while I slept in pretty late. We had a good breakfast and talked to a few nice people sitting at our table. We noticed pretty quickly we were among the youngest people on the cruise. The average age seemed to be 58-70 years old, lol. Some old lady was "play flirting" with Lyle during breakfast. Saying things like "If I were 30 years younger" and "Will you be at the pool later?" lol. It was kind of funny. I guess I had a run for my money! I hung out at the pool for most the day. I only brought one book w/ me....50 shades of Grey. Terrible book. I got bored with it quick and ended up buying magazines from the ... read more

Well...I am actually writting this blog a mere 10 months after this trip. I used to blog IMMEDIANTLY upon returning from a trip but I have gotten lazy in recent years. And now that I am no longer on Facebook, hopefully I will upload pics and stuff to share w/ others alot sooner! =) Well, I wont make this blog too long, full of endless detail that no one cares about, like in the past. So...here we go. Lets rewind time to last November, 2012. I had been wanting to go on a "trip" for quite some time. My return to Texas and lack of funds has halted my traveling in recent years. Well...I had managed to get enough money together and worked my butt off for the whole year at two jobs and found a ... read more

OMG! We LOVE Galveston! We had the best time on the beach and the hotel we stayed at was the best. The Hotel Galvez was built in 1911 and just celebrated its 100th birthday. What a wonderful place. Our shower was the best shower I have ever been in! It took us about 4 hours to get to Galveston once we left San Antonio. We checked in to our room and headed straight to the beach. The water was like bath water and we spent the next 4 hours on the beack swimming and sun bathing. Now, because it was so hot and muggy, I had to rent chairs and an umbrella so we could get out of the sun, but it was sooooo worth it. I rented the kids boogie boards and they tried their ... read more
