Howdy partners! ... read more

Kerry and I had the continental breakfast which was pretty ordinary and the kids were a bit late getting up so we ate without them. When they surfaced we took them to nearby Peggy’s for Breakfast where they had some cooked food. We then headed off for some sightseeing. First on the agenda was doing the Iron Mountain Road trip. This road was an engineering masterpiece when it was first built and includes three tunnels where they are perfectly aligned so that when you drive through them you see Mt Rushmore National Monument directly in front of you. Amazing how this was done. Also the road has several pig tail bridges which are really neat to see and something quite different. After that we started the Wildlife Loop Road. This was something I had really been ... read more

Well I had the worst night's sleep on the trip as I used Sofa Bed to let Kerry get a good night's sleep to get over her sniffles. All to no avail, as I was uncomfortable and the stupid glazed window let in too much light. I reckon I only got a few hours sleep and I had to prepare for the long drive to South Dakota ! We were packed and ready to leave Denver by 9.30am as soon as Luke finished watching Serena Williams get through to the Wimbledon Finals again. Mr Tom Tom was loaded with trip plan and I had the Google Maps version on my IPAD as a back up. We have found the IPAD handy as it has a GPS location device so it shows you on the map where ... read more

I've woken up this morning around 4am but feeling more human today! Still feel a bit off but well enough to be able to go onto the coach. Today is a long day of travelling. The coach trip is made up of quite a wide range of people both age & nationality. It's mainly an "older persons" tour with most couples being married for 41 years which was a bit odd!! Our Tour Leader Bob is an ex Principle so you can imagine how it's almost like we are on a school trip! He's very organised, counts everyone on & off the bus & keeps everyone in place. As with anything which involves a group there's the obligatory "ice breaker" game involving making a bow out of toilet roll?!?!?!? We start the day leaving Denver & ... read more

Geo: 43.8967, -103.418After leaving Bear Country, USA we visited the National Presidential Wax Museum in Keystone. The place was interesting, but not well organized. Some of the scenes featured historical scenes involving the presidents, but some presidents were grouped with other presidents that were from later eras, like Ford with a group of presidents from the 1800's. Also, some presidents just had head and shoulder casts. Also, there were some scenes of non-presidential historical figures like Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell. ... read more

Geo: 43.8967, -103.418We then headed to the hotel. We stayed at the Washington Inn in Keystone. The room was very comfortable, but the parking was poor. Naomi stayed in the room while I walked the shops and stores. I picked up a few trinkets including a Raku bear for Naomi. I got back to the hotel and settled in for the night. Dan and Jennifer were vacationing in Las Vegas, and I got a text message from Dan about 11:30. I wished him well but let him know that we were trying to sleep.... read more

Geo: 43.8967, -103.418We got into the Keystone area about 8:30. We originally planned on visiting Bear Country, USA the next day, but since we were there already and it was early, we drove through the wild animal park. The place has elk, cougars, buffalo, and of course bears….lots and lots of bears. We had a nice drive and then visited its walk through area where a group of baby bears were romping and chasing each other in their pen area. Some of them were playing king of the tree. ... read more

Geo: 43.8967, -103.418We then decided to go caving at Rushmore Cave. According to the AAA guide book, the tour of the cave "offers a moderately easy half-mile guided tour." But when we entered the cave, a sign on the wall said it would be a strenuous walk. We had only gone into the main entrance of the cave, when it narrowed greatly. Being claustrophobic even in a crowded movie theatre, I decided that I would not be up to the challenge of exploring the cave with Naomi. I told her to go on without me and that I would wait for her later. I got my money back, and went to take a short nap in the car. About an hour later she appeared back at the car. She said that it was a very good ... read more
