Well, the day finally got here. We left home this morning at 8:00 with the sun shining brightly. Other than a traffic tie up due to a 4 car accident on 77 near Charlotte NC (which held us up for about a half hour) the trip was smooth. At least when we were held up we didn't have to worry about any time schedule, we had plenty of gas, had just eaten AND had just pottied - thank goodness - LOL. We are staying at a hotel in Orangeburg, SC right off Rt 26. Tomorrow we will have an easy 6 hour drive so we plan on just taking our time in the morning and checking out a couple towns along the way. We'll go to Jim & Leah's (Larry's nephew and his wife that live ... read more

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!! We did.........very quiet and peaceful. We TRAVELED to Midway, to have dinner with our daughter and her family. GREAT dinner!! Got TONS of gift cards this year, so we made out very well. We had set a limit for the amount to be spent on gifts, this year, however. Money is tight and we hate to see our kids spending so much for gifts............and us, too. Today we're going to TRAVEL to Washington Crown Center Mall to see what bargains we can find, if any. I would like to buy some of their crystal which will be on sale out in the hall-way, today. They only come out once per year, and the crystal items are unbelievable and the price is cut in half........and in some cases more than that. ... read more

Travel lesson of the day: Driving across country changes your perception of distances. from Kathy: I wake to see the sun shine at that August angle that signals the fall season. No matter how old I get, this first signal of summer’s end is always a sober one. Leaving Grinnell at 10 a.m., the urge to make phone calls takes over. First, I call the school guidance counselor, then the barber who cuts Scott’s hair, and the pediatrician. I am setting up appointments for next week—but wait a minute, that means we’ll be home in a week. Question: How can I be in Grinnell, Iowa and expect to be home in anything less than a month or two? Answer: It’s all so much closer than I thought. Question: You mean Iowa isn’t that far from Connecticut? ... read more

Posted by: Onaxthiel: We tried for an early start out of Clair to clear MI as rapidly as possible. There were only a few stops along the route we wanted to make on our way to Pennsylvania, and they were things that looked like they had potential to be interesting on our big map. The first stop was sleepy hollow state park. Usually we wouldn't have bothered stopping, but since it's getting towards Halloween, our curiosity (and the fact that we needed some breaks in our driving after yesterdays marathon driving session.) got the better of us. Sleepy Hollow state park looked like any other that was charging us admission to spend almost no time in, so we bypassed it and drove back to an unused church nearby for some shots of it with the autumn ... read more

Bradford, PA - Olean, NY Wednesday June 2 Prism flew Jana and me from Wichita, KS to Buffalo, NY. There we met Eva and Debbie from Wisconsin and the 4 of us got our rental car and drove through NY to our hotel Bradford, PA. Bradford is in the northwestern part of Pennsylvania and has a population of about 9000. It is the home of the Zippo lighter and Penn moter oil. The area is lush with green trees. I could not believe all the dense, deep, dark forests in that area. If anything was to be built, trees had to be cleared from the land first. Houses set half in and half out of forests like Aunt Lizzie’s house in Beverly Lewis’s Amish novels. It was beautiful. When we got to out hotel it was ... read more
