First we went to the airport to get to Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi is our stop off. We have a TV in the back of the seats, I watched Sponge Bob Square Pants Out of Water, then I watched inside out and I drew a picture of Sadness. My Nanny Wendy and Grandad came with us, Nanny gave us a Spot What book. We landed in Abu Dhabi airport, I played on my ipad. There was a long queue, we waited and waited and waited for so long then we finally went through. It was boring on the plane and it was not very comfortable. We went to stay at my Uncle Dan's house, it is very old and was built in 1839. We played with Sophie my cousin . We had tacos for dinner, then ... read more

October to December 2014 The small town life is disappearing in the States, as more and more people each generation leave for the city life with most not returning. It’s a trend that has seen the total rural population shrink to less than 20 percent of the total population. It’s a shame, as smaller towns can still offer us a glimpse of what a community really looks like. There are many great small towns in America and we had the fortune to live in one for a short time……Newtown, PA. Don’t be confused by the name, Newtown has been around a few years, actually since 1684, when William Penn (yes that famous one) founded this small hamlet just north and east of Philadelphia, which oddly enough is the fifth largest city in America. As you know ... read more

Our hotel, The Inn at Lambertville Station, sits right on the Delaware River. My dad, who loves American history, mentioned that we couldn't be very far from where George Washington crossed the Delaware. Intruiged, I checked out a local map from our hotel. Sure enough, the famous crossing took place about eight miles downriver from us. We've come all this way; why wouldn't we go check it out?! My parents, my Aunt Carol, my Uncle Mike, and I set out at about noon. We took Bridge St from our hotel in Lambertville, New Jersey, and crossed the river into New Hope, Pennsylvania. We headed south on Main Street (River Road) for about 7-8 miles. It was a beautiful drive that followed the Delaware River. Along the way, we passed some state parks and a wild flower ... read more

The following is a description of the Mercer Museum in Doyletown, PA from their website. By 1897 handmade objects were being discarded in favor of new machine-made goods. Historian and archaeologist Henry Mercer (1856-1930) recognized the need to collect and preserve the outmoded material of daily life in America before it was swept away by the Industrial Revolution. Mercer gathered almost 30,000 items ranging from hand tools to horse-drawn vehicles and assembled this encyclopedic collection in a system of his own devising. To enhance the collection's educational value, and to share it with the public, Mercer decided to design and build a museum to display the artifacts. In 1916, Mercer erected a 6-story concrete castle. The towering central atrium of the Museum was used to hang the largest objects such as a whale boat, stage coach ... read more

I have not written about my trip to London because I thought there was too much to say and I didn't know how to approach it. But I decided to tackle it in a way in which readers could get an idea of what there is to do and how to afford it. During my backpacking trip this past summer I only got to visit London for two days! For reasons including a time zone change and an emergency stay in the Paris airport for a night, our time in England got cut short. Upon returning home I knew that I wanted to go back to London and try to recover everything that I had missed. So while working my ass off and saving for the $800 plane ticket (not too bad if you plan far ... read more

On the way home from our camping trip to Allegheny National Forest, we pulled off at a rest area for the usual bathroom break and snack re-stock. Rest stops like these always always have one of those twirly stands with pamphlets for other attractions in the area. While I was waiting for everyone else...I browsed the pamphlets and grabbed one that really stood out to me labeled BOOKS!! It turned out to be an advertisement for a book store in Harrisburg called Midtown Scholar. http://www.midtownscholar.com/ Later on I looked it up and saw pictures and decided that I HAD to make a trip there. The place sells used and rare books....like...a shit load of them. It's a pretty huge building for a book store and used to be an old theater so it looks pretty neat ... read more

I have been wanting to go to Grounds for Sculpture forever and today I finally got the chance! I was expecting to see some awesome sculptures, but I wasn't expecting the grounds to be so beautiful. The layout of the sight was incredible and Josh and I felt little kids running around the place eager to see what would be around the next corner or what secret passage ways we would find. We walked around for two hours and still didn't find all of the sculptures... Whether you want to go to really learn about the sculptures and take the art seriously....or just go for a little adventure and funny pictures...the place is worth the trip! It's in Hamilton New Jersey about 45 minutes away from Bucks County. And admission is only $12 bucks! Have fun. ... read more

I made it home to PA two weeks ago, and it's been wonderfully relaxing spending time with my family (new and old) and friends. I'm seeing my hometown in two ways at once - it's as if I never left, but also as if I'm in another foreign country. In the past when I've come home from abroad, I'd thought someone had hit a giant Staples' easy button. But this time, after much more time adjusting to the expat life, the readjustment is more difficult than I expected. As soon as I got here I felt more relaxed - I think peoples' energies are just contagious that way. But I've gotten so used to not understanding most things that, rather than English making life easier, suddenly daily life has become an information overload. I've caught myself ... read more
