Lake Abert, next to Abert's Rim, 30 miles of exposed fault. The sage brush smelled amazing here. We picked some to make smudge sticks. We also started to find some cool rocks with crystal chunks in them.

A little section of Abert Rim. Really amazing place. You feel like a grain of rice in this landscape.

We heard the horned goats but didn't see any up on the Rim side. They are very well camouflaged into the landscape.

Here is some more information on Lake Abert & Abert Rim, & how this place was created, and still continues to be active and changing, as lava still flows a few miles beneath the ground all over these parts of Oregon.

We are off to Abert Rim & Lake Abert. Longest exposed fault in North America.

Abert Lake was huge, smelled strongly of sulfur, and has an abundance of brine shrimp. We made our way down to the water only to find that where it had receeded it was like quick sand. So we never got to get right to the water. Which as you got closer you could smell the shrimp smell as it over came the sulfur smell.

The stillness here was strong. But out on the ridge I could hear every now and than the mountain goats, but they blended in so well, I couldn't see any. To think this whole valley was filled with water many thousands upon thousands of years ago. The geology is really amazing in the state of Oregon. After all, it's a bunch of volcano's and faults, this area is constantly changing. As the molten lava still runs below, and the plates are always in a constant pressure power war.
