I love the smell of napalm in the morning -LTC Kilgore, Apocalypse Now Welcome to the travelog. Blogs blow. I'll be gone for 2 months (leaving May 31 returning July 31). As most of you know, the majority of the trip will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam. After 3 or so weeks here, I'll be traveling to Thailand for two weeks. Bangkok will be the arrival point and travel south towards the islands/beaches is expected. The following two weeks will be spent traveling through Laos and southern Vietnam. The final week will be the trip back to Hanoi by bus/train from Ho Chi Minh City with stops at small cities/villages along the way. If anyone has any knowledge of the area or any hotspots to note, feel free to let me know via comment, email or ... read more

The morning started out rainy as we traveled on. We went through Indianapolis for a nice lunch. From there we entered our new time zone when we crossed the Ohio border. We arrived in Cincinnati late in the afternoon. After walking to the river and peeking into Kentucky, we met some nice people at happy hour. They recommended dinner in the Mount Adam's area, which was a very quaint part of town. We pass that recommendation onto anybody who visits Cincinnati as well. 363 miles of travel in the day, 2,392 miles total. 64E to 70E to 65S to 465E to 74S to 52E to 75S.... read more

Camper is loaded, things are packed, we're almost ready to go. We watched National Lampoon's Vacation last night. Shawn can't wait to look for Christy Brinkly in the red Ferrari and the girls are hoping find the House of Mud. Me, I'm just hoping no one dies along the way!... read more

We only have 5 days to go!!!! We leave Tuesday at 1pm. Dad bought this movie called National Lampoon's Vacation, he thinks it will be educational for us?? We need to start to pack. It has just snuck up on us too quick. We are going to play the license plate game, but a little differently. We will have a list of all of the states and when some one finds a state, their initials get put on the list. The one with the most at the end wins. We bet that either me or rachel will not come home and be left at a campsite. I can't wait!!!! -emma ... read more

With less than two days remaining before we head out to Beijing, I am scrambling to get everything together and all my projects finished. I think I'm going to try and find a nice NBA jersey to increase my popularity as a professional basketball player. Folks seem to enjoy them over there. We have been talking with the three UC grads who we'll be meeting and doing some tours with in Beijing. Their names are Matt Mezinskis, Adam Hildebrand, and Brent Cengia. As far as I can tell, they're going to be a lot of fun even though one's a sigma chi and the other two are betas. I believe we'll be doing the great wall tour, UC recruitment banquet, and certainly some after hours festivities. Until next time, -Gage... read more

So I think we may have found a blog site that we can upload to from China. I know, I know, aesthetically, this is far from pleasing, but it should do the trick nonetheless. With less than three days to go before departure, I'm at the point now where I'm just ready to go. Apparently, I have been mistakenly telling people that the duration of the trip is sixteen days when in actuality, it's 19. I guess I'll be missing 16 days of school. Anyway, I'll be playing around with this blog over the next couple of days to try and work out some kinks. I hope you all can follow along as we trek to the east. -Gage... read more

Sooo, it's been a little while since we blogged. Just consider it a testament to how busy we were and how much fun we were having! We are back home safe and sound, and can't believe how quickly 3 weeks flew by. Our flight got back into JFK on Thursday, where Susan's mom was great enough to pick us up and feed us all the foods we were craving (mmmm, water with ice....). Carolyn and I drove to Hershey that night to spend the night at my house, and although the jet lag made us feel like it was about 4am, we of course were able to stay up late enough to watch the finale of The Office (seriously Pam and Jim??!!). The next morning we made the 8 hour drive back to Oxford. My travels ... read more

Well, the Dunns are almost ready to hit the road! We've spent the past week packing and adding things to our growing "to-do" list. Tony and I have two different packing philosophies: Tony's is- minimalist packing is best. Mine is- pack everything including the kitchen sink!! We're doing pretty well to find a happy medium! We'll post our next travel blog after we've seen Mt. Rushmore. See you then!!... read more

After driving to Cincinnati, getting about 17 immunizations (ok, 4, but it felt like 17), surviving a power outage and some major storms, and getting about 900 errands done, I am finally ready to go on the journey! I leave from Cincy at 10:30, then my big flight is Chicago-Beijing at 1:30 CST. So scary! One of my errands in the last few days was to get a new camera, and here are my first published photos... one of my feelings about being up at 5:30 a.m. (booo), and one about my feelings about setting up my new camera (ahh... I am techno-unsavvy!). Wish me luck and think of me crammed in my coach seat for 14 hours!... read more

We have found the perfect Westy to take our family out West. Tony has spent a lot of time planning and preparing for our trip and we just cant wait to leave! These are a few of our highlights: Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood City, Devil's Tower, Yellowstone, Jackson and San Francisco. We are really looking forward to riding horses, white water rafting and riding on a Conastoga wagon. We'll do our best to keep you posted on our journey!... read more
