Well, we are on our last leg of the trip!! Yesterday, we spent a full day in the city. We rode the Metro to Arlington National Cemetery. It was a beautiful day and people were everywhere. We were able to see John F. Kennedy’s grave and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We also saw the changing of the guards and placement of the wreath by a group of high school students. It was great for the girls to see such an important part of history. Tony packed our lunch, so we enjoyed some sandwiches and drinks while sitting and enjoying the view. After we left the cemetery, we jumped on the Metro and went to Smithsonian’s American History Museum. We enjoyed seeing the First Ladies’ gowns. Some were beautiful (Jackie O.) and some were awful ... read more

Greetings from the Dunns! We are on our second leg of the trip! Yesterday morning, we woke up early, said goodbye to the Big Apple and drove to Hoboken, NJ. We were determined to eat pasteries at Carlos' Bakery. This time - sweet success!! There was no line and we walked right in. I was hoping to see Buddy, but they said that he wasn't due in for a few more hours. The bakery is much smaller than I had envisioned, but the ladies behind the counter were very nice - even though they were barking at each other like they do on the show. There was a group of old men who were sitting at the only table. You could tell that they were regulars and weren't planning on moving any time soon! After ordering ... read more

Our last day in the city! We spent eight hours running around the city today. After a quick stop at Starbucks, we started with a ferry ride over to The Statue of Liberty. Even a little rain couldn’t ruin our excitement! After going through airport -like security, we were cleared for the tour of the crown. When we began our 366 step ascent, I was feeling pretty confident! Once the steps changed to the tight, double helix, I started getting a little sweaty palmed! I just held on for dear life and tried not to look down. It would not have been a good place for claustrophobic people! The steps were only 19 inches wide with railings on both sides. I was worried about Tony being too tall, but he managed to make it to the ... read more

Our second day in NYC was just as busy as the first! We ate breakfast in Hell’s Kitchen and then used one of Tony’s Droid app’s to find the closest subway. That has proven to be very useful on this trip! We then went to the Museum of Natural History. The girls were troopers and we walked around for three hours. Their favorite exhibit was The Ocean. The especially loved the big, blue whale hanging overhead. The one that disturbed Julia the most was Human Origins. There were Neanderthals that she couldn’t stand looking at. It was too funny! Her favorite thing in the museum was the cafeteria. I turned my back on her for a minute and she was putting donuts, chocolate pudding, chips and a hot dog on tray. I talked her into returning ... read more

Greetings from The Big Apple! Let me rewind a bit: We arrived in Pennsylvania about 1:00 this morning and camped at French Creek State Park. We were pretty tired and cold, but we were happy to finally fall asleep! Our drive there was pretty uneventful, but we did have a good laugh when Tony applied duct tape to our vents on the dashboard so that cold air wouldn’t blow in on us. Before arriving in New York, we stopped at Hoboken, NJ to visit the infamous Carlos’ Bakery from The Learning Channel. There was a line of people wrapped around the corner, so we decided to just peak into the window. We didn’t see any of the regulars from the show, but we did see some beautiful cakes covered in fondant!! We had lunch at a ... read more

Well, Tony is dusting off the camper bus and changing the oil. It's time for another road trip! We are taking the girls to New York City and Quebec for Spring Break. We have a lot of ideas while we visit the two cities, but the only definite plans we have are to walk to the top of the Statue of Liberty. It sounds pretty intense, but I know that we are up for the challenge! The view of the city from the crown is supposed to be incredible! We also hope to do some shopping and eating while we are in the Big Apple. The girls and I are in the process of convincing Tony to drive us over to New Jersey so that we can visit Carlos' Bakery where they film "Cake Boss". When ... read more

After a quick breakfast of coffee and muffins in Montreal, we were back in the camper bus and heading for home! Tony and I tried talking the girls into camping one more night on Lake Erie because the weather was so nice. We weren't ready to get back to reality yet, but the girls couldn't wait to get back home. After driving 15 hours from Montreal to Fairfield, we were so relieved to finally be back home. Looking back, the trip went by so quickly! We wish that we would have had a few more days and a lot more sun! On our drive home, Tony and I compiled a list of top five necessities on the trip:1. Garmin - our gps system - was able to find the most remote camping sites 2. cast iron ... read more

Bonjour! We have spent the past two days in Montreal and have really enjoyed our stay. We felt an immediate culture shock when we arrived. This massive, french speaking, classy dressed city is so different from the small, laid back, casually dressed towns that we've camped in and visited the past week. We walked around town and visited the underground mall (nothing too exciting). Apparently, there is going to be an international jazz festival beginning here in a few days. The city is busy setting up for the event. Looks like it's going to be fun! Our hotel here, Le Relais Lyonnais, is fabulous. There are only seven rooms in the entire hotel. We have a suitte on the third floor with a balcony overlooking the Latin Quarter. We have so much fun sitting out there, ... read more

Bonjour! We have just crossed the Canadian border and are on our way to Montreal! I do have to rewind a bit to fill you in on our last day in Maine! Yesterday, we spent the entire day on the water in Bar Harbor. We took a morning cruise on LuLu’s Lobster boat in search of grey /harbor seals and lobsters. We had a wonderful captain named John who was extremely knowledgeable on the area. He was great with all of the kids on the boat as well. He took us out a couple of miles and then the kids were able to watch seal pups playing on the rocks at Egg Rock Light House. There was also a young bald eagle there for us to see. The seals were swimming in the water right next ... read more

Greetings from Maine! Sorry that I haven't blogged in a few days! We've either been too busy or haven't had internet access. I have a lot to share, though and some great pictures as well! On Tuesday, we drove into Maine to see a cloud of mist and haze. We kept telling the girls that it was beautiful, but it was hard for them to believe us because they couldn't see much of the harbor. That night, we pulled into Acadia National Park and camped at Blackwoods Campground. Needless to say, it was raining and Tony and I were completely over all of the "wetness"! Wednesday morning, we drove to a hiking trail called Bubble Rock. Maddie and Tony had heard about it the night before at a park ranger geology talk. The rock was left ... read more
