Williams Residence, Cary, North Carolina Last Thursday morning we pulled up the stakes, hitched up and drove on up the outer banks chain through Bodie Island and onto US64 and westward. That will be our general direction now for the rest of the trip. We crossed several bridges, one of which is being rebuilt with a multi-million dollar project to build an even longer and higher bridge. I wondered as we went through all the construction work whether the bridge would outlast the islands and just kind of hang out there in the middle of the water connecting two non-existent islands. Hello Family, Friends and Supporters, In just 20 hours me and 16 others will leave the USA and head towards Malawi to begin our Habitat for Humanity Global Village trip. While there, we will help build two homes for two families caring for orphaned and vulnerable children. We will share and learn about a culture very different from our own. Getting ready to hit the road! (or the air). Trying to pack everything we could need and still keep it light for our adventures in India and Nepal. We are up to date on our travel vaccines, have the bug spray, sun screen and antibiotics packed. I have limited my clothing to sun protecting lightweight fabrics. It is supposed to be MEGA HOT! OK, so I am about to embark on my latest summer adventure. I would say this one is not as crazy in terms of strange, new places to go, but it is crazy in other ways. I will be hitting up places that are packed with great nightlife (not that I will be tearing it up or anything), lots of backpackers, adventures to partake in, beautiful surroundings, etc. Doing the Greece thing for the 7th year in a row, so that is sure to be fun, then heading to some new and some old destinations. Here is what I have planned: Destinations in Greece: Athens, Mykonos, Delos, Ios, Santorini, Kos, Rhodes and a few other small islands. It has been 209 days since my last entry and the time has come once more for me to embark on a travel journey of sorts. Unlike my last excursion, this trip is guised under the pretense of "academics", but I think we all know better. I will be spending 4 months mainly in Spain and a month elsewhere leaving tomorrow and still, I have yet to begin packing or finish booking flights. Somehow I'm satisfied with this because I'd like to think it provides a benchmark of spontaneity and unpredictability to the trip right off the get-go. I also promised myself I'd re-learn some basic grammatical lessons in Spanish, something I never truly believed would happen. Behold the heavens and the horizon

I got up and left pretty early in the morning to go back to Union Station to catch the train to Cary, NC. It was quite sad heading out of DC so soon but I was bounce-up-and-down-on-the-seat excited to get to see my friends in North Carolina again. I got some food and actually met the only miserable person I had encountered the whole time in DC. She asked me for my ID while I was buying water and chips in a store in the station and proceeded to rant about the UK not accepting US driver’s licences as proof of ID. too excited to sleep. which is unfortunate as it's 3:34am and i have to work in a few hours. but i'm all packed. and am so anxious to be there already. got some lovely corticosteroid injections in my knees yesterday. fingers crossed that'll help counteract whatever fiery fury they kick up that my adrenaline can't subdue while i'm doing stuff like this happy i get to spend a little christmassy time with the family tomorrow. wish you could've come down though, grandpa. ... read more
