OK; made it to Ibiza and, while it is no Greece (still nothing beats the Greek Isles), it is interesting. Moree hectoc than I was expecting, but I guess it is a pretty crazy nightlife--obviously. I have a sweet hotel with AC and right on the beach--now this is more like it. Have a huge free breakfast and my room is looking out onto a great pool that basically falls off into the ocean. Yesterday I swam in the Mediterranean and spent 2 hrs at thepool before a nap and a run and a big cheese fondue pizza--I know, sad! Ate another pizza at night with some cheap wine and tried to go to bed before midnight, but much like Italy, even the old people stay up late here! I had to put my ipod on ... read more

OK, made it to Barcelona finally, so down to my last country. Pretty huge and crazy hostel here--Gothic Point, but I am heading to bed as soon as I can to get up early to fly to Ibiza. Most excited about that part of my trip. AC in my own hotel room. It has been a week now since I have had AC and I am not sure how they do it. I haven´t slept well in a long long time, so ready to hit the states for that. Long day of travel overall and I splurged on an expensive restaurant here for some good pasta a beer and a big water and it was $20--back to normal prices. The same thing would have been $40 in Switzerland--hell caeser salads were $25 there or so. Anyway, ... read more

Well decided to skip ut a day early from Interlaken because it was raining and was not going to clear up. Spluged last night and got a hotel in Lausanne. Not a bad little city with some hills and I stayed right near the Big Cathederal--Notre Dame I believe. It is more of a student/university city, but it has a nice old city area with some shopping and nice bars/restaurants. I ended up eating a kebab for lunch and one for dinner--$10 each and they were $3 in Greece. Hey, it is good for me because I am making myself eat the onions and lettuce and all that they provide since it is included and I need food! Haha--I should have taken a picture of the prices of stuff at the main grocery store in town ... read more

Well very interesting 4th of July last night at Balmer's. They were celebrating the 4th and there are a ton of Americans here. I ate a brat because it was only $4.50 while the burgers were $12.50--again, I am wasting away on this European diet/budget! Had a few beers during happy hour and talked to people from all over. Not too late a night though and I was up early today for a 3hr hike to some mtn overlooking town and then walked to another town for a swim in a lake fed by mountain streams--a bit cold, but so refreshing. Lots of hiking/walking again so about dinner time now. I am going to have to splurge and have some cheese fondue sometime while I am here though! People are very nice here too, but again, ... read more

Wow, long day so far and it is only half over. Got to Interlaken at 11:00am after a 2 hr train ride and I trained to a nearby town deeper in the Alps and hiked 2 hrs up to a mtn town with amazing views. The toughest hike I have ever done and only 2 hrs, but it was constant--no flat areas to take a break and I was on my own and pushing hard. Definitely worked up a sweat! Now I have most assuredly begun the workout part of my trip. Ran 3 miles yesterday in Lucerne and did 8 200meter hill repeats with a set of push-ups after each. Then got up early this am and did a nother 3 mile run which was so nice b/c it was so cool out, but may ... read more

OK, good times in Greece, but good to be out of the Aegean and on to new places. Munich was Munich. Not a bad city, but nothing really special. Not trying to offend anyone out there, but it is what it is. Had a beer at the Hauphbrauhaus or however you spell it, but went out to a local beer hall with some people in the hostel that was a lot better with no tourists. Had my first purple cabbage there and first pork knuckle or whatever it was. Train left this am at 7, so not much sleep, but had an amazing night hanging with about 10 people. One was a Penn State grad, 3 Aussies, 3 from British Columbia, one from Charlotte, and a teacher from NY. INteresting mix, but we hung out from ... read more

Wow! Everywhere we go in the Aegean has a different, alluring quality to it. Loved the two cities we were in in Turkey, but Rhodes is one of the neatest places I have ever been. Massive fortress that houses the old town and we are staying at the Mango Rooms right in the middle of it. We have basically just walked around, ate, had a few beers, and enjoyed the great atmosphere. This is the last day of the trip for Clint and he has had a good time. Seen the most amazing sights in the Aegean. I am off to Athens then Munich tomorrow if I can make my connecting flight--may be tough if I have to recheck--they sometimes do not have big enough planes and make you check bigger carry-ons. So lets summarize where ... read more

OK Can't remember where I left off but good tımes ın Turkey. Lets see so far: Got to Bodrum and ıt was amazıng. So many clubs and restaurants and actıon overall. Clınt and I rented a car and took off north though wıth no ıdea where we were goıng or for how long. The drıve north to Izmır though was very dull and took about 4 hrs. We saw the ruıns at Epheseus and a couple other places but then decıded to head back to Bodrum. We were beat and got a room at Bodrum Backpackers. Interestıng. . .ok realızıng I already wrote all thıs the other day but ıt was abıt of a dısaster there--although we mostly trıed to sleep wıth the heat and the noıse then got up ın the am and got out ... read more

Wow! Made ıt to Turkey (and don't know where the comma ıs on thıs so bear wıth me!). Bodrum ıs an amazing place. Beautıful and carefree and not too expensive for a resort destinatıon. We decided to get a car today though and cancel our reservatıons the next 3 nıghts and then just drive north--not sure where we would end up. Well we went north for a few hrs to Epheseus (sp?) and saw the ruıns there whıch were not bad. Saw a few other nearby ruins (hell they are everywhere. random fields etc). It was a long borıng drıve though and wore us out. Hoped to get to Troy but not feeling that drive back so we turned around and came and got a hostel wıth no ac right ın the middle of all the ... read more

So now we are in Kos, Greece. Long, long day of travel yesterday as we got to the Santorini airport after a 4 hr airport worker strike (damn socialist-like countries!) and it backed up all the flights, so we were 4 hrs late to Kos and did not do anything except get food and go to sleep at 1am last night. And today they wouldn't let us rent scooters, buggies, 4-wheelers or anything because they said on this island you must have an international license if you are American! Guess it saved money for us and not sure there is really as much to see here as the other places. Very industrialzed/commercialized on the drive in. The Port/Old Town part of Kos is nice though. Last day in Santorini, though, was amazing! Dad chartered a huge ... read more
