THREE RIVERS Bronco Sue Yonkers wasn’t the only girl who made her mark on the country around Tularosa and White Okies. Susan Hummer was born on December 30, 1845 in Gettysburg, PA. She would have been 18 years old when the horrors of battle struck that little town and perhaps was a witness to it. If so, the Battle of Gettysburg was not the only battle she saw. In 1873 she married a lawyer named Alexander McSween. The happy couple moved to Lincoln, NM in 1875 and Alexander McSween went to work for the Murphy/Dolan Company. The Company as it was simply called held monopolistic control over most of the commercial ventures in Lincoln County. Some of The Company property was mortgaged to members of the notoriously corrupt Santa Fe Ring and the ring ... read more

Toas New Mexico is beautiful arrived a little late so motels were scarce what was available were way to costly. When you arrive in Taos from the West the first thing you see is these funny little things sticking out of the little dirt humps in the ground. There are numerous homes buried under the humps. Beautiful when you look at them from the front side, all windows sticking out of the groung. No motel so we head out of town up in the hills around 10,000 feet there is this cute little campground in the wooded area with a Conestoga Covered wagon in front. Not bad $17 a night with bathrooms and showers. Real tricky for Doug to back the camper in, all gravel and on a sloped hillside but it was the closests to ... read more

As Anne said, "They remembered to push the button on the GPS locator unit today!" Official location and note: We've just landed and everything is okay. It's Miller time! ESN:0-7366219 Latitude:35.1815 Longitude:-103.6094 Time:05/09/2008 15:26:16 (US/Eastern) Day began with happy early rising all around in Weatherford Oklahoma. Today's intention was to get as far as Page AZ. Man Plans, God Laughs. What happened? Oh, about 30 knots headwind. Groundspeed was, um, discouraging; some cars passed at least one of the planes, and everyone took a continuous beating from turbulence for about two hours before landing at what was our planned gas stop. Landing was a real challenge. After everyone was safely down, the pilots convened, and decided there was no way we were going to try to take off. The worsening AIRMET finally convinced us to call ... read more

We were planning to stay longer in the Guadalupe Mountains but extremely high winds, with gusts up to 70 MPH (thats 112 kilometers per hour) made us decide to move on. We head to Roswell NM for the night. In the morning we check out the Roswell UFO museum. It is dedicated to information about the "Roswell Incident" in teh 1940's in which a UFO crashed in the desert near Roswell & the incedent was covered up by the US government. It was fun to see some of the people in the Museum. Some were WAY INTO IT. I think that for some people, belief in UFO's is a way of feeling connected to life in the universe. That's a good thing. For myself, I don't think that either a visit from Life from Space, or ... read more
