Another beautiful Saturday - - September in New Jersey is so refreshing after August's sauna-like weather. These days are warm (up in the high 70's) but dry and comfortable. Davis and I repeated the hike I'd done with Katherine through Mercer Meadows - - having lunch in Lawrenceville then hiking back. The meadows are beginning to smell like fall. Late summer flowers are blooming and the butterflies are all over them. Full pack, 17 pounds, and overall, a comfortable hike.... read more

After a full on 4 days in the US we were excited to have a chilled out day today in New Hope! We had a decent sleep in and did a few blogs and I got out of the shower to find my amazing boyfriend by the name of Benjamin had cooked me turkey (again!) sausages and candy pancakes for breakie! An odd combo but yuuuummy! We enjoyed breakie and a coffee and decided to leave Susan to it today for as long as poss and she was battling with her sewing machine and getting a bit stressed as she had to make a Technicolour Coat for Jackie's concert tonight, and it was not co-operating with her! So she dropped us in New Hope and said she would come and pick us up in the arvo ... read more

We both got a decent night's sleep on the plane thanks to the assistance of a couple of sleeping pills. We awoke, had a quick bite of Saudi Arabian airline food and before we knew it we were landing at JFK. We arrived at the passport control area and after standing in line for ages, finally got to the front and were greeted by a power-hungry high horse of an immigration official. First of all, he did not consider Rach and I travelling together a 'family' and required us to fill out separate customs forms, even though we were told on the aeroplane and also by an assistant whilst waiting in line that we'd only need to fill out one. So Rach had to run back and fill out the form exactly the same as me ... read more

Lambertville is a quaint town with lots of little shops at the most western edge of northern New Jersey. We're staying at the Inn at Lambertville Station, which is located right on the Delaware River. We can easily cross the river into New Hope, Pennsylvania, which is another cute town. Everything is easiliy accessible to us. We went to a wedding last night at Lambertville House and walked there with ease. This morning, we wanted to take a stroll along Bridge Street to get some coffee. After hours of waiting for everyone else, I finally took off on my own to take in some of the sites. There's a beautiful, stone Catholic church, and an old Baptist church which my mom said is being turned into a music hall. Before too long, I spotted the rest ... read more

To make it to my cousin's wedding in Lambertville, New Jersey, my parents and I decided to save a few hundred dollars by flying into La Guardia in New York City. I've never been to New York, so I thought it might be nice to see parts of the city as we drove through. I got more than I bargained for! We landed in New York City at 4:30pm. We didn't get into the Holland Tunnel to make it to New Jersey until nearly 8pm. We sat in traffic in Manhatten on a Friday during rush hour for hours. I loved all the people watching, we didn't really have anywhere to be that evening, and, besides, I didn't have my little ones with me. I could think of less interesting places to be stuck in traffic ... read more

Today was our last day in Jersey! We started the day amazingly with david cooking us an incredible beakfast of omelettes and scones! So so good!! Great start to the day! We then had to organise getting Susan a pres and knew what we wanted to get - my amazingly gorgeous perfume from Victoria Secret! So we made up a story about El desperatley needing a bra from Victoria secret - which im not gonna lie she did desperatley need!!! And got Susan to agree to take us there. It proved slightly more difficult than we had anticipated as she had smelt my perfume and loved it so when we entered VS she asked for it! And we thought she was gonna buy it!!! So I grabbed it quickly behind her back, paid for it and ... read more

Today we had a sleep in and had a really relaxing morning at Susan's house. We played some cards and listened to music, and tried zucchini chocolate brownies! (which were much nicer than they sound). In the afternoon we drove to HHGreggs so that Rach could buy a new camera. She got a really good deal on a Panasonic one, which was similar to the one she lost, but black and with better quality. We dropped Susan's daughter off at a birthday party at an insanely big mansion with an amazing pool and jacuzzi, then we went to Hopewell Vineyard for the evening. They had a live band and we really enjoyed listening to the music while we had some pizza for dinner and a couple of glasses of wine. The wine hit us both pretty ... read more

This morning we had a much needed sleep in after getting in really late the night before. After breakfast we went to pick up Susan's daughter and then went to Walmart to replace our toiletries we'd had to throw out the day before. In the afternoon we all went swimming at an old quarry which has been there since 1928 and has still got train tracks at the bottom of it, 60 feet below. It was a really beautiful day and the quarry was amazing with trees surrounding it, a few diving boards, and platforms in the middle to swim out to. We spent the whole afternoon and early evening floating in tyres and doing back tucks off the diving boards. By the time we left we were starving, so we headed home for dinner, stopping ... read more

I begin my travel blog on the eve of a trip to Kentucky. I will be there for approximately 3 weeks (I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be longer), caring for my elderly charge, R, as well as engaging in some sprucing up of R's old house for her daughter (and my boss), S. I'm somewhat ambivalent about the trip. Initially, I was very excited for it, but as the departure date approaches, I have become less and less enthused for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that it falls right in the middle of a very inconvenient time frame in my life. I am trying to move into a new apartment, as well as find another job. This trip, understandably, throws a monkey wrench into my dealings. There are also ... read more
