Two flat tires in two weeks and now this......sigh. We got into Logan on Friday the 15th. We decided to get a hotel room because it was our anniversary (our 5th) and besides we didn't feel like putting up the trailer. So with excitement and anticipation we whipped that trailer into the hotel parking lot and when the back of the car/trailer hit the curb, we (I) completely destroyed the electrical cord. It was obliterated (see below). So our 2 hours of relaxing before getting together with AJ were spent instead finding an RV repair shop. Thankfully we weren't in Mexican Water, AZ. I doubt they had an RV repair shop, But Logan did and the cord was replaced. Then, since AJ had a tough week and we had an expensive AND tough week (that trailer ... read more

Our mountains here look smaller! Thank you all for reading our blogs and travelling with us. We'll probably add one more as a summary later on. Nancy and Rich... read more

Then, after celebrating Father's Day in Dyer, we head to Salt Lake to choose our new beagle puppy. We'll pick her up on our way back in August. We're worn out from our preparations! A long time after our 99 day trip, I'll wrap up our blogging. When we got home, we got a sign put on the back of the fifth wheel. We've gotten comments whenever we're on the road again. :) We found out that when Rich fell in the creek on our first night out, he partially tore his posterior cruciate ligament. The doctors told him there was nothing they could do about it, so he waited patiently for a year and now it feels fine. So, we asked ourselves what were the highlights of the journey. Rich's were: The ocean waves lit with silver fire; the Chincoteague ponies; and eating lobster! Nancy's were: The fall foliage; visiting with family and friends; and seeing all the historical sights along the way. We were glad to get home, ... read more

Well, folks, we made it on our over 10,000 mile and almost 100 day trip! In Las Vegas, Rich got his oxygen bottles exchanged and got the propane filled so the heater would work while we were in Dyer. Nancy did a load of laundry while he was gone so we would have underwear! The jets going in and out of the airport went right over us in the morning. They must have been on the storm track. It was cloudy and breezy and a storm was supposed to be brewing. There was nice artwork again on the bridges, bridge supports, and soundwalls. There were two desert tortoise statues under one interchange. The tortoises were as big as a car! In this dry, southern desert, there were stretches of sand between the low, dry, brittle brush. ... read more

The Devil's Backyard A couple of months ago I heard a University of Nevada political science professor being interviewed on NPR. He said that Washoe County, where Reno is located, could decide the presidential election in Nevada, and that Nevada's five Electoral College votes could in turn decide the presidential election nationally. I owed a visit to my (former) sister-in-law, who lives in Reno and who has been battling cancer for two years; my son, Ben, calls me every night to talk politics; and Obama had a 25% lead over McCain in California. So I decided to kill three birds with one stone by taking Ben to Reno where we would work for Obama in the last critical days before the election. Visiting my ex-wife's family in Reno always stirs painful memories, but the future of ... read more

Laura went off to do some Laundry and Greg added some more journal entries. Today was a rest day and we took it easy. For dinner we went to a great steak place called Glen Eagles. We rolled in dirty and dressed like slobs and got put into the back room with some other 'interesting' guests (people wearing their finest tractor pull T-shirts, etc.). However, the food was much better than Sizzler! Tomorrow we're driving down to Yosemite (~2 hour drive at most).... read more

We left this morning & packed up our perfect campsite (sans showers) *sniff*. We're heading toward Carson City, NV for the night. We are again on NV50 - the loneliest road in America. They aren't kidding... every 1-2 hours we passed through a small town of 100 people. This is an issue if you have to pee because there are no 2ft high bushes around either. Luckily, thousands of years ago, some ingenious Native American carved some symbols on a rock. This was found by a settler in the 1800s and now it's a BLM landmark with... potties! These petroglyphs are a protected site but the highlight was the bathrooms in the parking lot. We have found ourselves in a 35mph construction zone in the desert where no actual construction is going on. So far, it's ... read more
