I'm creating this travel blog for friends and family alike so welcome! It has finally come to the countdown for me and I'm sure my parents have been counting down since I choose to study abroad. We're in the single digits 'til takeoff which is June 19, and this not only being my first time traveling out of country but also that I'm going alone, so naturally the nerves are starting to kick in. I've already packed (and repacked) twice and I'm sure that I will do it yet again before leaving. I encourage suggestions and words of advice from those who have gone before me and traveled throughout Turkey or the area. The Visiting Wanderer

We thought we would reward the kids for being so good last week by taking them to see “Cars 2”. That did not go quite as planned. Connor said it best once we left and were getting in the car when he said, “That sure is not what I thought it would be.” That pretty much set the tone for the remainder of the day. It had rained that morning and was heating up fairly quickly so the humidity was becoming unbearable. We still decided to stop for a quick picnic at Wyandotte County Lake Park just over the state line in Kansas. Well...it's here! In 12 hours we will be boarding our plane to start this crazy journey. I have to admit I'm a little nervous to get on the plane. Usually I love flying but with all that has been going on around the world it's a little intimidating to step on a plane. Oh and the fact that the world is supposed to end tomorrow doesn't really help the nerves either! But, I checked off all the items on my to do list and finally got all the packing done (thank goodness!). Shanghai Airport

We are finally home!! We left Shanghai under rainy skies at 2pm Sunday. Arrived in San Fran about 8am Sunday morning, traveling back in time!! Left San Fran at 10:30am and then to Denver and then KC. We arrived home about 7pm. Gus was overjoyed to see us. And everything here at the house was intact. We have a great trip and made lots of memories. On December 20, 2008 Central Harley Davidson had a fundrasier for a local family who had a child die from a Wilm’s Tumor. The medical bills were high and this was a way to help. So the plan was to get teams of 3 people (young or old) to ride through a set course. Only one team on the course at a time and each team is timed. The dealership had cleared their upstairs warehouse and there was plenty of room for the relays and all the spectators. The cookies and punch provided by the dealership added a sugar fix on the already heightened activities. Carrs in China

Hello, I am setting up my travel blog for our trip to China. Only two more days till we leave. We are leaving Sunday at 6am and fly to Chicago. From Chicago we fly over the North Pole not exactly over the North Pole but near it. We will be looking for Santa's place when we do. We arrive in Hong Kong Monday night around 6:30pm. 16 December 2006 was forecasted to be a warm Saturday. Correction, make that an unseasonably warm December Saturday. Any December day that is above 60 degrees F yells for a motorcycle ride. I heard the call and started making arrangements on Thursday for the up coming Saturday. This wasn’t going to be an ordinary ride, this week I had been entertaining Santy, an associate from our sister company in the Philippines. This was his first trip to the US and I was trying to show him as much of it as possible in the 2 weeks he was going to be here. Well, I'm not physically in México just yet, but mentally...I'm there! Ignoring the heaping pile of clothes sitting next to my suitcase, I choose to start my adventure early. Mentally I'm already exploring the new sights, sounds, and smells. And because I'm an optimist...I'm already fluent in these daydreams! :-) I've been thinking a lot the past two days about how different this trip will be from my other experiences in a foreign country. I am fortunate to have studied abroad in Barcelona for six weeks in 2003, and then backpacked through Europe last summer, but never have I entered a foreign country the way I'll be entering Mexico tomorrow.
