Since my previous Xmas letters are posted in the blog I thought I would post this one too. 2009 Seasons Greetings. I hope this letter finds you well. Seems like it was not that long ago that I was writing last years Xmas letter, but here I am again. I have had a pretty full year. I took advantage of being able to pay someone else to do my job at the American Legion and took 3 trips this year. Early April I was suffering from the cold weather so headed south to ride the Natchez Trace from its beginning at Natchez, LA to its end at Nashville, TN. It’s a National Parkway, 444 miles without a stoplight, stop sign or yield sign. All along the route there were great bits of preserved history. I had ... read more

I thought I'd include some pictures of relating to the Blues & Jazz Scene for my friends Dan, Soulideth, and anyone else. One of the coolest jobs I ever had was being on the stage crew for lots of Kansas City music events. I worked on the KC Blues and Jazz festival for about 7 of it's 10 or 11 years. Got to work for lots of big name acts but especially enjoyed getting aquainted with several Kansas City music Legends including the Late Jay "Hootie" McShann, Sonny Kenner, and Claude "Fiddler" Williams. Over on the Missouri Side, they opened the American Jazz Museum in the "historic Jazz District" around 18th St. and Vine. I worked on the all star show they had for the grand opening about 11 years ago. They got a nice Charlie ... read more

Today has been a good day. Long but good. we started out around 8:45 am today and drove for a good long while. Mother dearest went ahead and got her alloted speeding ticket for the trip (in illinois going 15 over)! The police officer was nice at least...Then we ate lunch/dinner (it was around four) at Denny's where i had french toast YUMS! The only other eventful thing that happened today was that we got lost in Kansas city. We were supposed to get off at 2A but it went from 1A to 3A...yea didn't make sense to us either! Well, just so happend that there was a gay pride festival there today (not to mention a torrential down-pour) so at least we got to look at all the cutie pattootie gay guys flouncing around while ... read more

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. My morning had started early as usual on Sundays, I am at the Legion by 7:15AM to unlock the pantry and anywhere else the breakfast crew might need into. The legion has an all you can eat breakfast for $7 every Sunday from 9am to 12 noon. The different groups at the legion each sponsor one of the Sundays. But all but the first Sunday is actually done by the Riders, the motorcycle group at the legion. The sponsoring group gets half the proceeds brought in by the breakfast, the clubroom gets the other half to pay for the food used. I am usually stuck there until at least 12:30 as I help clean up and put stuff away. The legion guys that are supposed to show up and take ... read more

Some discontent has been shared about how I never "officially" returned from Nairobi. I apologize for not updating my blog, but let's be honest...nothing too exciting happens to me in med school. That said, I finish my 2nd year (out of 4) this week and then progress to take the STEP 1 Board Exam and take a year break from med school to earn a Masters in Public Health (MPH). Yes, I'm going to add another year of school, but it will be worth it and my reasons are best saved for another place & time. So, you might be wondering why I've chosen to update my blog today of all days. Well, first, my exam doesn't start until 12:30 and I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs. Next, I went for a run this morning. ... read more

I just decided the week before that I was going to take the opportunity that Easter brought and use 4 days to get to Vicksburg Military Park then ride the Natchez Trace. It was funny that the trip originally started as just heading to Eureka Springs, AR for a couple days, but the weather wasn’t forecasted to be that great there. And I wanted some warm weather. Farther south it was looking better, when I saw Vicksburg on the map I knew that is where I needed to head. Then Vicksburg is just a short distance from the southern end of the Natchez Trace… The plan was to get to Vicksburg on Thursday. Friday morning I would spend a couple hours at the Vicksburg National Military Park. Then head south to the Natchez MS and start ... read more

The whole Harley Mom travel blog has been about trips with my 2005 Harley Sportster Effie. With only a few exceptions, well, this one really blog isn’t about traveling either, but about the motor service done on her at 107,000 miles. Effie’s extended warranty is running out at the end of FEB 09. She was seeping oil from about every gasket that was used on the motor. So as the weather turned cold, but before she was snowed into the shed she stays in, I thought I should get her into the guys so they can do their miracle work. She has over 107,000 miles on her at this time. On Monday I had sometime and thought to go check up on her. She had been in the shop for a couple weeks and I had ... read more

I went on a Poker run this morning. I took the Jeep. Yep, I wussed out and took the Jeep. Yesterday we had 6.5 inches of rain. Its been raining for 3 days. It rained all night and was still raining this morning. I thought about taking the bike, but decided it was not worth the risk of going down. So I took the jeep. I had promised the shriners that I would cover the poker run for Thunder Press or I would not have gone at all. I had to go into work at 6am on Saturday so I could complete my work and still make the 8AM registration. I really didn’t think they would hold it, the whole area is in a flash flood alert. The route would be out in the country, surely ... read more
