We finally got on our way on Monday, Oct 17th - a day later than anticipated. We drove through MD, PA, OH and IN to the final destination for the day: the home of Dan & Cathy Sullivan in Rochester, IN. We pulled into Dan & Cathy's driveway around midnight - a long day's drive, so it was great to have our first stop at a friend's house. They were kind enough to stay up late waiting for us & gave us a warm welcome once we finally arrived. The following morning (Tuesday, Oct. 18th), we got a good look around the area...here's a picture of the Sullivan Farm...he left his home in DC for this??? Actually, Ken and I came across the Sullivan farm on a great bike ride we took through the rolling country ... read more

Sunday, 11 September 2005 Trump Hotel and Casino Gary, Indiana Day Two. Time 2000. Janet and I had another volatile misunderstanding. She IS not feeling well, not at all, and it all works on her mind and emotions, as well as her physical strength. And I get in a snit, and don’t help. But we finally got on the road. Today, all we have done is drive. From Chillicothe, Ohio, to here. Gary, Indiana is at the absolute bottom of Lake Michigan, and really, Gary, Hammond, Indiana, and Chicago are all one big megalopolis. You go from one to another without realizing it unless you actually see the signs. We got in here about 1900. Tomorrow the plan is to visit the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, which has the former German U-505, the ... read more

Left PA on Aug. 13 and headed west. Blew through Ohio (well, in the interest of fair disclosure, we did stop and make lunch at a rest area, and also experienced a 1-hour traffic tie-up near the Indiana border where we changed drivers). We stopped near Indianapolis for a few days at the Heartland RV Park - aptly named, as corn and soybean farms were everywhere in sight! The weather has been good to the farmers, as the fields were lush and green. We visited the Indiana State Fair - witnessed the watermelon-spitting contest, ate elephant ears and corn dogs, and checked out the awesome 4-H exhibits (wow, those kids are talented). Will continue through Illinois into Missouri for our next stopover heading West. ... read more

Hey...what's up everyone. It has been quite some time since I have blogged and I am actually home now. I arrived home safely last night. Let me fill you in on my London experiences and my times with my fam in Provence and Paris. First, I have something to say about the tube blasts in Central London. I stayed in London June 21-24, then I came back on the night of the 5th and flew out of Heathrow on the morning of the 6th. The blast occured between 8:50 am and about 9:20 am this morning, July 7th. I was headed to the airport via the tube at 7:40 am on the 6th and arrived there at about 9 am. That means I was there almost exactly 25 hours before this happened. When I first stayed ... read more

Hello! I wanted to let you all know that I arrived home safe and sound last night. The weather was a rude awakening compared to what I've been used to overseas -- it's so hot and humid here! Ugh! Anyway, it was a relief to see the cornfields of Indiana again. I think six weeks really was the perfect length of time to be gone. It was long enough to really feel like I was experiencing Europe, but I was just starting to miss the comforts of home as well. Yes, we Americans are definitely spoiled. I have new appreciation for AC, my own washer and dryer, bugless apartments, my car, and my closet!! No more living out of a suitcase and hauling everything I own around on my back. Yeah!! Anyway, the U2 concert was ... read more

Tuesday, June 14, 2005 Michigan City, IN Another big driving day. We started off first thing by driving out to the Morley Farm, but only very briefly—we didn’t even get out of the bus! Then we went immediately to the Kirtland Temple. Several of the group went to the cemetery next door to look up ancestors or Church historical dignitaries. We got several pictures of the Temple exterior, spent a bunch of money at the RLDS visitors center gift shop, an then got our tour by our guide, David Bolton, a British student here for the summer. It was a pleasant tour, and while we couldn’t take pix inside the temple, we did spend some time inside while David guided us, and I snuck an audio recording of most of his words. We learned a little ... read more
