Chicago Just came back from a quick overnight trip to Chicago and managed to fit in a walk to the Sears Tower for sunset. Below are some of the pictures. Also included are some shots I took a few months earlier on another quick trip. On that trip I took one of the boat tours. Enjoy, louisfuqua.com "A passion for our planet." ... read more

In our attempt to figure out this blog, figured we should take a stab before leaving. Yeah, that's right, you no longer have to hear about our trip to India. Only read about it. Liftoff is Wednesday, October 22. From that point on we'll do our best to share the ride, especially for those of you personally invested in this trip. So many moments to capture, from the elephant ride and couples massage, to all the sherpas lugging our bags up a mountain (thank you again Krisha, Jacob, and Claire & Brian). Let's test out the water with a few clips from Chicago....that place we call home. ... read more

Chicago is a clean friendly unpretentious New York. I’d choose Chicago over New York any day. After the parade (see previous post) I went to the Navy Pier which about a mile of funfair, theatres, restaurants and boat tour operators, unfortunately just as I got there everything was closing so I just had a nice quiet walk along the pier anyway. The following morning on the recommendation of one of hostel staff I headed down to the Millennium Park. Parts of the park are still being built, but the bits that are finished look really smart and modern. It has a huge area where I guess they hold music concerts and in the centre of the park is a huge metallic bean. I’m not sure what the significance of the bean is, but it looks quite ... read more

...Columbus sailed the Ocean blue. I arrived in Chicago early this morning and wasn't able to check in to the hostel until 3pm. Luckily a couple of blocks away the city's annual Columbus Day Parade was happening to keep me busy for a few hours. It's organised by the Italian American communities and basically consisted of all the local school marching bands and a few local business putting on floats. Chicago is without doubt my favourite city so far, it's got the young busy cultural feel of New York, but without the dirt and negative attitude. I'll write some more about Chicago soon, probably on the train to San Francisco. ... read more

I've decided to continue our travel-blog if not for you all than for us! We found this a great way to share our lives with friends and family and our blog from New Zealand, Australia & Fiji became a great way to preserve the memory and photos of our travels. Since returning home to the US in early 2008 we have continued living in Hoboken and made a few trips up and down the east coast and Kevin has spent the last several months commuting to Chicago every week. Last month I had the opportunity to join him and explore this great city. We hope you enjoy a re-cap of our latest adventure! Thursday, Oct 9th - After experiencing the 2 hour flight out to Chicago that Kevin experiences twice a week I hopped in a ... read more

Day 101- Wednesday My bag is packed and I'm ready for the shuttle to the airport as I have had to check out of my hotel room. Luckily ING Direct banking have a free internet cafe across the road. You just have to buy a drink. It is rather cold and windy in Chicago today and I am attired for a long flight to Sydney...with bare legs and sandals so am not suited to wandering the streets marvelling at the beauties of this great city as I had planned. I have finished my 6 weeks in the USA in the same place as I began...Chicago. What a great city. Really beautiful, sprawled along the shores of Lake Michigan. When I marvel at the spectacular architecture, the locals modestly assert that It is due to the fact ... read more

Well Day 2 of our trip didn't get the early start we had envisioned. We woke up a 9:30, didn't leave until 11:00, and got stuck in O'hare for 2 hours. I swear that place was designed by Lucifer. Anyway, when we arrived in the city at 4:00PM, we were starving so we went to Giordano's Pizza. The stuffed pizza made every part of the trip worth it! If someone said hey want to drive to chicago just for that pizza and turn around and go back I'd say sure. After we ate, (one slice of pizza did me in) we putzed around Michigan Avenue for a while. Checked out the 3 story Nike store, the Apple store, and the 5 story Borders. We got some Seattle's Best Coffee to warm us up after two days ... read more

We have finally arrived in Chicago! We pick up the train tomorrow (Sun.) at 2:15PM. I just hope we get out without problems. The weather here is just awful with flooding rains from the remnants of Lowell from the Pacific, believe it or not. The remnants of Ike get here tomorrow. I was happy to see an email from Holland America regarding a "replacement" port of call. We will be going to Aomori , Japan. We still have 8 days at sea though! That will be interesting. As a friend of mine pointed out; most cruises last less than that! The trip on the url=http://www.http://tinyurl.com/6o9yeb / Empire Builder should be interesting. The weather looks great for the 3 days and we should see some great scenery! Among other places, we will pass through Minneapolis/St Paul, over ... read more

I was very excited for this trip because it was my first with no parents around. Just friends. So we headed out early, and if you know anything about the trip to Chicago it's just a straight shot on the turnpike. Chris drove with Zach and I as company, and we were followed by Bethany, Rachel, and Stephanie in the other car. All in all the trip there went well save a minor half-hour traffic jam in Southbend (Michigan was playing Notre Dame in which the Irish detroyed them) Once we got into the Chicago I was blown away by the traffic situation on I-94. I'm so glad Chris drove. Picture 8 lanes going in one direction of bumper to bumper traffic and every decided last minute, "Oh, I guess I don't want to go to ... read more
