So we left Burlington on Satruday 2nd August- we could easily have stayed there longer it was such a relaxing and friendly place. We caught an early bus to Springfield and changed there to reach Albany. Albany has many grand buildings but not an awful lot else. We had a nightmare trying to find the motel we had booked and got drenched in a thunderstorm before finally getting a taxi- in short supply! The motel was fine and had a really good sush restaurant next to it which we went to that night. The area whcih you had to walk through to get to town was a bit dodgy so we got the bus. Albany seemed like a ghost town at the weekend - one of it's bes features was free internet use at the library ... read more

¡Oh!

Bus ride was long, another 24 hours.. but I had my own seat for most of it, only had to share for a few hours so that was awesome. I was last in line for border security, I’m usually one of the last to get off the bus every time it stops, because I have to reorganise my carry on luggage all the time. So border security seemed to take a while for a few people, but seemed the longest for me. The man had to fill out my visa waiver, then I had to pay for the visa waiver, then he had to do all the usual fingerprints & photos, then scan my bags. He got me to open my bag, because he thought my curling iron looked like a tripod. What I would do ... read more

Hello! Well, I am leaving for Europe in 9 days and I couldn't be more excited! I am nervous about all the prep work I still have to do but my motto for this trip is NBD (No Big Deal). If things don't work out for some reason, I'm going to be laid-back and chill which is totally against my nature! Well, I've got lots to do. I just wanted to set up this blog and get it ready to go. Take care! Mo... read more

Wrap up Well its been a couple of days since Ive been back and I decided to wrap this blog up. From Ayutthaya I went to Bangkok for a night to be closer to the airport. I didn't really do anything just hung out, and went to see if there was any good shopping at this place called MBK. There wasn't really anything worth buying there so I just returned to my hostel. Next day while I waited for the bus to the airport a homeless man approached me and started begging for some change. While trying to explain to him that I didn't have any, the bus I was suppose to take passed me by. So I ended up waiting for another half and hour to catch the next bus. I got to BKK ... read more

Hello All! I have only three weeks before I leave the United States for a whole nine months!! I just returned from Chicago where I had to go to get a study visa for my trip to Perugia. THis whole thing has been a hastle! My sisters came with me and we had a good time in the city, and I am now one step closer to leaving! The consulate meeting was very nerve wracking because some people there said they had to come back 2 or 3 times to have their application accepted! So needless to say I was quite nervous. I met with a nice lady for my appointment, and she said I should have my visa in about a week. ... read more

We spent a day and a half in the windy city. We visited a high school friend Dom Mascis who lives in the center of the city. He was a great host and tour guide for our first part of the weekend. We sampled some local beer and great deep dish pizza on Thursday night. We even had a few more local beverages on the top of his apartment building looking over the city after the feast. Friday we hiked up to the third tallest building in the world, The Sears Tower. We'll we really took the elevator ride, and saw some spectacular views of Chicago. We walked over to the bean and the free outside concert hall to check out the local arts and music scene. The Millenium Bridge crossed the turnpike and we were ... read more

Hello everyone. I have set this up to serve both as a travel journal for myself and an easy way for anyone interested to get a sense for where I am and what I am doing. I will also be able to display photographs of hospitals, living arrangements, and various flora and fauna. My tentative itinerary is as follows: August - Mthatha, South Africa, September - travel through Mozambique, October - Blantyre, Malawi, November - Thimphu, Bhutan, December - traveling around Thailand, Jan - June - Battambang, Cambodia. For piece of mind for friends and loved ones, I have attached a recent photo of myself, along with a sophisticated prediction of what I will look like at the conclusion of the trip. See you on the road! Ben ... read more

Following our 45 hour train marathon we headed to our motel, which was right in the centre of Chicago. It was nice to finally have some room to swing a cat after being couped up in a shoebox sized excuse for a room on the train. We went for a wander around the neighbourhood and went for a dinner at Chicago style deep dish pizza restaurant. It was the most filling pizza we've ever had, we only had a six slice medium, and still had to take two slices with us! It was so thick and had so much topping eating two slices each was a challenge! The next day with both of us down to our last few items of clean clothing, we needed to do some washing, the nearest one was several miles away. ... read more
